    I hate getting hit in the head during a match. I remember once I get hit right on the helmet logo (dead centre) and I had to do a concussion test despite being fine. When I got hit I didn’t even move, wasn’t knocked down or anything, just finished going through my pull shot. Then I had to spend 5 mins doing a concussion test and holding the game up as we had no other batters. Worst part was we had 2 overs left.

      Yeah but it’s better to take those precautionary measures.

    I once got a top edge onto my cap, and was caught off of it lol. Didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. Was a medium-pacer to be fair. I used to love playing in rain-matches, I just thrived on the challenge. Harder to bat, harder to score runs, had to really grind, and don't bother trying to slog! This is probably my favourite video of yours. Really good bowling from the opposition, great friendly lads, brilliant keeper with some sharp stumpings, a fabulous mullet and PJ working harder than he's ever had to work before (you really made him work haha). And a nice win!!! Top video Gareth!!! 10/10

    Excellent video Gareth, lovely to see the team getting a much needed win. As for that "stumping?" Let's just say that as a retired keeper I wouldn't have been very happy with the decision. • @acmdv
    @acmdv 2 года назад +4

    I've watched a couple of your videos and I noticed why you got out LBW in both of them. In both cases your weight was on your back-foot so your head was actually moving away from the ball, it's a common mistake you see a lot in young players where they see the ball going down the leg-side so they step to the off-side with their back foot thinking they are making room to hit the ball through the leg-side but all they do is miss the ball or get out LBW. What you need to do is twist your front foot so it's pointing towards where a left-arm over bowler would bowl from, this helps shift your weight & head towards the leg-side as well as freeing up the leg-side of your body, you should then find it much easier to access the ball giving you a better chance of making good contact with the ball. Looking at your technique you could do with also taking a step forward as well, there doesn't seem to be a big stride when you play leg-side.

    Nice to see you back in league action Gareth & to get a win too! Think you may have been a little lucky with that stumping mind you but the keeper looked very tidy!
    Hope all the batsmen are ok too, gasped when I saw your team mate hit, brought back memories of poor Phil Hughes. Mind you, I got a new Shrey helmet this season & tried the neck strap that goes at the back of the helmet & found it really uncomfortable & strange so I don’t use it.

    I've never been sure about the good helmets do. I once saw a statistic which suggested that in first class cricket more guys get hit on the helmet now than were hit on the head in the pre helmet days. Andy Roberts once suggested that the knowledge you are wearing a helmet leads to poorer shot selection against the short ball. The old fashioned buck & weave is less noticeable now against faster short balls that it once was. Having said all I have regarding the wearing of helmets, in hindsight I sometimes think I ought to have worn one the day I faced Michael Holding. Thankfully he kept the ball up to me (the 3 balls I faced from him before he uprooted my off stick!). But as I didn't see any of those 3 balls I doubt I'd have been able to duck and weave if he'd have sent anything short down at me...lol
