I just discovered your channel and subscribed. Working my way through them as I have always been interested in life in Italy. With 4 adult kids in the States and a third grandchild on the way, there is no way no how that i could get my wife to move abroad full time, but I can still dream. Maybe a part time sort of thing. Anyway, love the videos and love learning by watching you do the hard work. :)
It reminds me of my experience visited and stayed in a modern villa in the city, South Africa where we had to heat up the living room using the woods. Great information for pros and cons!
I guess I did not even think about this until now. I'm thinking just to to the wall and turn on the switch. Our neighbor here is getting solar panels and he is paying $150.00 US Dollar a month for 25-years. That would cover is Air and Heat. I'm glad you had some options. Hope all is well. You guys take care. Thumbs up. 👍
I'm with you, just flip a switch and all is good! Not here in Italy! A bag of pellets alone is costing today almost 10euros per bag! We have no idea how much gas or electric will cost! As always, thank you so much for watching, you two take care! 💕🇮🇹 Debbie and Stijn
Good info and analysis...thanks! We are in the early stages of downsizing/selling everything for our spring 2023 launch and Italy is at the top of the list for an eventual landing. Will continue to watch your content and your journey.🙂
This was super interesting. We have a lot of open fires in our house and are going to try getting a wood supplier this year and heat just the rooms we need as gas and electric is so expensive now! This was super informative guys, I hope you keep warm this winter!! 🍻
Great video and info! I have to say I’m surprised you chose to use the pellet source but I understand your reasoning. I think we take gas heating for granted in North America. Would love to see your local town, markets and a day shopping 😊
Not so sure pellets is going to be the smart choice this year Sabrina, with bags at double the cost😱 We're grateful to have the other options for sure! We keep talking about doing a "a day in the life of an expat" where we take you around our little town. So stay tuned! Thank you so much for your continued support! Debbie and Stijn
Thank you for video. 3500 Euro cost of modern pellet stove. 1000-1500 Euro for pellets for winter season. Gas is even more expensive, than pellets. Where I live wood cost 25 Euro per 1 m3 or 100 Euro for 1 ton truck. Gas from central high pressure tube cost 0.072 Euro/m3 (for heating season, since Sept till May, 3000 m3 are needed with total cost of ca.200 Euro). Viessmann Vitopend W-100 for hot water and central heating, natural gas is used, price is 1000 Euro.
So good to see you both again! It’s nice you have several options. I like the individual units makes it nice to take the chill out of a room and not heat the whole house. Great informative video guys! ~Cara 😊
We're so glad you enjoyed this video! Yes, we like that option as well, though not the most cost effective. Thank you so much for watching! 💕🇮🇹 Debbie and Stijn
I think having a few options is a great way to go. I had that in my French homes and will be doing similar in Chianni. That way, you get to chose and if one runs out the other can take over etc...I also do love the romance of a fire for the simple fact that watching open flames is mesmerising and comforting. It's also great to cook over as well. So glad I have an open fire in my kitchen. You are so well set up...looking forward to visiting one day! 🥰🤗🌞
Yes, we feel very fortunate to have so many options, and we do love the open fire concept!! We hope you get to visit one day soon! Your room will be waiting for you! Thank you so much for watching💕🇮🇹 Debbie and Stijn
Pellets are a great heating source, but this upcoming winter will definitely prove to be interesting with the current costs per bag at just about 10euros!
Thanks for the video I’m contemplating a move and I’ve been trying to decide on what’s the best way to Heat I currently live in Maine and I can’t stand the winters anymore. Six months of just cold, damp and I’m constantly wrapped in a blanket. I don’t want that over there, but I do want an older home with all the stonework so I’m very concerned and trying to figure out what the best way is to go about it. One thing I wish you had mentioned is how long do you have to heat for there? How Do you feel being in the home during the cold seasons ,walking from room to room and how many months of Heat do you have to consider heating? what part of Italy are you in? i’m looking to northern Tuscany areas. Thank you for all that you’ve given here. I really appreciate it ❤
We are in Umbria, central Italy. Winters are very mild, nights can be freezing but even that means barely 25f or so. We generally run the pellet heater most of the day since we're home a lot. This warms up the radiators which we have all over the house. This ensures our home is roughly 68f, we don't run heat at night and don't have to wait too long in the am for it to warm up. It all depends on what you consider warm enough to forego the blanket but keeping our house plenty cosy in winter is certainly not a problem.
Thanks so very much! For the information. I’m enjoying watching you guys! I’m so nervous about the language. I’m just getting started now. It concerns me. I studied for like two hours last night and don’t know that I remember anything. Oh my God, it seems like it’s going so good while I’m sitting in the class you know, t think I m OK I’m getting this and then I go to sleep and get up the next morning,I’m struggling again to remember any of it. Driving is going to be important to me and I watched your video on that and that really frightens me as I will need the language. I know that once I get settled, I’ll probably want to spend a lot of time in the town that I’m settled in and working around the house ,so buses and trains will be good for a bit. But I so want to travel so hopefully the language will come because I do wanna live there permanently. I’ll need it! Thanks for all that you
Hi , great show . Do you know of anyone who has bought directly from a seller with no realtor involved ? I hope to buy in Italy perhaps Abruzzo region .
Thank you for the great information. I'd be curious if there is anything you had in the U.S. that you have tried to replace in Italy and found difficult? Also, is there anything you wish you would have known or done in advance of buying your beautiful property there? Keep it us--love seeing the progress!
I keep trying to think of something Patty but I just can't. Maybe just bigger selection of things? Oh there is one thing, ceiling fans!!! They aren't big on them here so the choices are very very very limited! Apparently Italians don't like breezes, they think they will catch a cold! Can't really think of anything we should have known before buying our property, it just all felt so right😊
Nice overview! So did they take their stufa with them along with the kitchen? That seems kinda crazy! We definitely appreciated having smaller rooms that we could close off when running the electric units in PT. One small benefit from our wildfire is that we have lots of dead aspen to put in the wood stove now...
I think it blows my mind because the last thing I'd want is to have MORE stuff to schlep to a new place. Especially really heavy stuff like a furnace! Do they do this in PT?
I was wondering are the pellets more expensive because of supply and demand from covid and is Italy experiencing high inflation as well? So do you need natural gas for hot water and cooking, if not what are you using. So basically, what you're saying is to have a few of the options for different usage. Thanks for your help, I don't think that would have been a question at the top of my list. Love from NY.
il pellet l'Italia lo comprava dalla Russia come il gas, e prima della guerra costava poco, speriamo che finirà presto ! Italy bought pellets from Russia like gas, and before the war it was cheap, we hope it will end soon!
@@jonimarchese7655 not sure why pellets are so expensive this year, like almost 10euros per bag! Last year they were about 5.50euros per bag and we're being told the year before that only 3.00. Yes, the gas we use primarily for cooking and heating our water but the radiators are also hooked up to the gas if need be.
That's a lot. I paid in Spain for the same service plus a cassette inside eur 1800 in total. I heated my villa in Spain in winter with the air condition unit and if it was really cold and I wanted to have it warm and romantic I used the chimney with olive wood. The electricity costs were OK because you only need the ac unit for a few minutes to have warmth. I purchased a special vacuum cleaner for the fireplace for approx. Eur 300. This is very convenient. I also will have gas connection in Italy now. But I am very afraid of gas. I will see how expensive this will be. Thank you for your information. I paid the first installment for the house, hopefully I will get the house into my possession soon.
Agree. Wasn't cheap but we didn't really have a network to find multiple quotes. We would certainly consider electric for a quick heat boost but for now the pellets work well.
I tried using my water heater (tied into the radiators) for heat last week and noticed that in 4 days with an 18c average heat I used 50 litres of gas from the external tank. It seems remarkably inefficient but I'm not certain of price per litre /M3 when delivered by truck. I filled the 1000 litre tank previously and it cost around 500eur.
It will be interesting for sure to see how much everything goes up this winter. Bags of pellets are already over 9 € per bag! Thank you for watching! 💕🇮🇹 Debbie and Stijn
