Kevin does a solo set in most Pentatonix shows, these days usually with Matt (and they've now given Matt a full drum set). Kevin and Matt also sometimes do an audience sing-along set.
I think they chose Kevin because of his overall musicality, not just his beatboxing skills. If you’ve ever seen any behind the scenes stuff, he’s a musical genius. Check out his Dance of the sugar plum fairy reimagined from their 2023 tour. I saw them in Orlando, and I love PTX as a whole! But seeing Kevin’s solo pieces makes me want to see a whole show of just him. He’s so captivating and unique in his talents.
Kevin is an extraordinarily talented and genuinely good human being. PTX is fortunate to have him. I love that they are giving him this chance to shine. Matt of course fits right in! They have so much fun together!
Kevin has also performed at Carnegie Hall when he was 17. He also speaks Mandarin fluently as he had planned to work in Asia. They all love Toyota and last season their family was along for the tour. Kirstin does not get her 10-12 hour sleep like before. This gives the singers to rest while Kevin and Matt shine. Back 10 years ago they did a video That's Christmas To Me, that each member has two video moments from toddlers to Kevin practicing the Cello. Kevin also has an arrangement of O Come All Ye Faithfull that takes an old song to rhythm and African vibes.
Yeah.... there is no shortage of talent in this group, that's for sure... And somehow Kevin is still extraordinary among these great talents! Matt and kevin has had so much fun with this one and their thing they did this last christmas. I would not be mad if this is something Pentatonix starts playing more with as a group!
If you haven't already seen it, Kevin has his own RUclips channel, and one of the most popular video on it is his "KOver" of Down. You see him in his home studio, where he is set up with looping equipment, all of his recording equipment (he helped Kirstie set up her home recording studio when the lockdown hit and PTX had to record from home), and you'll be able to watch him create an entire song from start to finish without stopping. He sings, plays electric cello as both cello and electric guitar, beatboxes, and mixes all in the same set. It's about a 5 minute video, and its definitely worth a look!
I was totally mind-blown the first time I saw it as well. There were times when Kevin was using at least three different parts of his brain simultaneously during this performance. Bottom line, he's a freakin' genius. Thanks for the reaction. Glad you loved the performance.
I, and I believe most people, felt the same as you when I first heard Kevin’s Fifth. Also, that was Matt, PTX’s bass, on the drums. Here is another Kevin & Matt performance of Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy. Link: ruclips.net/video/vBdljht7h_A/видео.htmlsi=oCjHL-DCEqoJMGu3
I absolutely love that you remember seeing the original viral video! I saw it, too, and was so impressed. It made me so happy when I then saw them refer to this video on The Sing Off season 3 which they won, as Scott said. I was fortunate enough to see Kevin's Fifth twice in concert, (once with Cost and Mayer - the dancers shown here) and Kevin got two extended standing ovations both times. It's just incredible to be in that energy, you know? Believe it or not, I actually liked what he and Matt did at this past Christmas concert even more! "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy’ REIMAGINED: Pentatonix Live Stream 2023 Kevin, Matt Cello-Beatboxing" You will love it. They use a remixed version of Pentatonix singing their Grammy-winning version of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy - and then they completely go OFF. I checked and it looks like you haven't seen the winning arrangement, either. It would make a super cool dounle reaction!
A pre-med degree is a bachelor degree (a four-year degree I think called a "license" in Europe). It can be in any subject (I think Kevin's is in East Asian Studies). But to qualify to enter medical school, it needs to include more science courses than a regular bachelor degree (chemistry, biology, math and physics). You would then go on to medical school and a residency before you become a medical doctor.
That sounds about right. I remember Kevin or some interview mentioned that Kevin had spent 18 months in China studying and learning the language, so probably ( if that's correct) that counted towards his bachelor's.
Kevin has his own RUclips channel (KO -- Kevin Olusola), with a variety of musical experiments going back to his college days. Cello, beatboxing, celloboxing, singing and looping, covers of pop and classical music and some originals, solo and with other musicians. The most viewed is his KOver of "Down" (Marian Hill), but one of my favorites is "Stay With Me" (Sam Smith) -- ruclips.net/video/nyYG70aM9Fw/видео.html
What can i sayi love Kevin as i tell everyone even hubby, i want to marry him or adopt him either one ! lol ive been so blessed to have seen Pentatonix 2Xs and i think i say the same od each member as i do Kevin ! They are Amazing !
Absolutely amazing! KO and Matt doing Dance of the sugar plum fairy are equally good. Great show indeed! By the way, do you know that KO is also an elite-level sax player as well?
The synergy between Matt and Kevin is incredible. They bring other wonders to the live shows. Jaws drop always.

There is a video of Kevin playing saxophone at Carnegie Hall in a concert for talented children at 17 years old too.

I have seen Kevin in this concert that year when they played in Connecticut! It was amazing live!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Their shows are phenomenal. I’ve been to 2 of their concerts and can’t to go for another.
First time I saw this was in person and it was magic!

Just to add to that he speaks several languages.
The other one you should watch is Kevin and Matts take on the sugar plum fairy.
Mind- blowing🎉. I thoroughly enjoyed this! Yes, first time I saw this. You are not alone.
