- As I delve back into the world of Sister Wives, I want to express a sentiment towards Robyn that I have had for a while. I don't think Robyn has as much control over Kody and his actions as we tend to heap onto her. She definitely has influence over Kody, but I don't think it's because she's cracked the Kody code. She has influence because he prefers her and he wants to keep her around. That's more on him than her.

Robyn is only 6 years younger than Christine, but she made remarks about Christine's age to make it sound like Christine as way older than her.
Exactly. I hate the way they act like she was like 20 years younger. It’s 6 years! That isn’t “so much” younger. She just came in playing that “I’m going to be number 1 and win” because she knew she was the new toy on the shelf. She didn’t live the struggles and poor days the OG3 did with him. She even said her life as far as materials things, bills getting paid and building a home was better than it had ever been. That made Kody her hero and Kody loves to be the hero.
She was a lot thinner and had a lot less children. And there is a difference between a woman 30 and one pushing 40. But it’s a shirt lived difference because once you are over 35 then the difference is no more. Plus she was single.
Even young wives get older. And now, you can't even tell the age difference between her and the other three.

It's both. His mid-life crisis is apparent (long locks, convertibles young wife, etc.) But Robyn also knows that he is obsessed with her, and she takes total advantage of her "advantage" over the other wives and kids. She has always known that she is his mid-life trophy wife, and she used it to climb over the others, usurp the head wife throne, and end up with all the wealth that the other wives contributed to the "family".

All I can say is that while begging Meri to stay she told Kody "no" when he asked if Meri could come over since she was following Robyn's rules covid rules.
Yep. Interesting that covid didn't stop them from going to Mari's house, but no one could step foot in their house.
It was the perfect storm. Kody was a spineless man with no leadership skills in marriages where women thought more of him than themselves. Then, he has a mid life crisis, making a little money, and in comes young and thinner Robyn, ready to reap the benefits of all their hard work. She sees Kody is smitten, looks at the other ladies, and realizes he is an easy target. There is the storm.

In the beginning Robin would have never given Kody the time of day if not for the show. She didn't get lost on her way to church,and fall prey to a guy going through a midlife crisis. She is not special or unique.She just got to him first.He was ripe for the picking.An honorable woman would have backed away quickly.A sports car was working for his crisis just fine before lil sweet Robin stumbled across him.

Robyn’s sections of the book are extremely interesting, especially with the benefit of hindsight of course. But her goals were specific and thought out. The man in the crosshairs could’ve been anyone who checked off each one.
I really hope there’s a focus on Robyn, Meri’s and Kody’s relationship prior to the wedding. It mentions the 3 of them even went to counseling together. I haven’t heard anyone diving into that and I’m very interested in your take on that weirdness, James.
@@NanaBib A narcissist is rarely able to truly participate in and therefore benefit from any kind of therapy. They'll sit there and try to get the counselor on their side against anyone coming for them. A Covert narcissist will make all kinds of excuses about not liking the counselor and not needing help.
So true! Kody and the OG3 getting the tv show made all the difference for Robyn. Without the show and the attention and money that came with it she wouldn't have looked at him twice..

Yep. Watching Dayton's shock and confusion of his biological father giving up his parental rights was one of the most heartbreaking things to watch across the entire series.

It's only a little mid-life crisis. What they have found with each other is the one person who, no matter how atrociously they behave or how horrendously treat others will defend & make excuses for their behavior and then tell them they are wonderful. That is their partnership & role in each other's lives. They allow and reinforce the worst in each other. He likes that she finds some deep emotional reason to justify anything he does wrong. He thinks she is better because she makes him feel like he is a better person than he is. Robyn is the love who lets him be the horrible person he is.

I agree that it's definitely giving midlife crisis. The difference is that instead of leaving to be with the new wife which often happens in monogamous relationships he dragged the OG3 along to use them for their resources and make it seem as if they were the problem and that he wasn't doing exactly what he was actually doing. I think things what have been better for the whole family if he had just been honest and not string the other ladies along.

If we look at the lessons Robyn's mother taught her about "keeping her man happy" and making herself the favorite, we can see that manipulation was always a part of Robyn's plan. Definitely agree that Kody's mid life crisis combined with his new financially better situation led to him seeking a younger, hotter wife. He fell hard for Robyn and she knows it. She may not be able to control everything Kody chooses to say or do, but she knows how to use his preference for her to get most of what she wants. Narcissistic symbiosis? Maybe.
I think Kody took on way too much as a young man, so of course it's going to be mid-life crisis city. He is a victim of the cult he joined to please his dad. But he should be directing his frustration toward the cult, NOT his children or (ex) wives.
Kody ‘signed up’ to take a lot on, but he never fulfilled his duties. He really wasn’t available-personally, financially or emotionally! Although the worst damage… is that he publicly claims all that effort. Clearly, he is a liar through and through.☹️🤬

I want to watch the family as it navigates its new reality. I will continue to be interested in what the grown children are doing and how they are accomplishing success. The OG3 will always be in my heart ( including Meri ) but I feel anger when listening and watching Kody and Robyn. They are still a part of the picture. God bless their 5 children. I don’t know what will become of them.😢. Don’t let the tragedy of Garrison’s death stop coverage. This is a study of real time sociological phenomena as we as citizens of this culture experience. We can learn and grow by watching and discussing what we see. You have innate wisdom and I value your commentary. Please continue with this line of observation of this family. Thank you 🙏

I agree, but I also think Robyn was able to pretend to a level of deference and force her kids to a level of deference that fed Kody’s ego more than the rest of the family had ever provided for him. And then he took that as his due and expected the others to provide that same level, but with less and less of his attention and affection.

James Book review needs the timeline drawn out for each wife since there are so many lies in the book, Kody dating Janelle for a year or more behind Meri's back, Meri never brought Janelle into family etc etc
The difference between Robyn and the sweetheart of a "monogamous" man is that Robyn knowingly entered into a spouse sharing arrangement, wherein she was expected and required to respect the man's time and relationships with the women that were there before her. She smiled in the faces of these women and their children and professed her love for them, while actively undermining their relationship with their spouse/father. She is not at all sympathetic, and there is no pretzel design anyone can twist her into that could make her appear to be so.

I agree James on your take of Kody’s midlife crisis. I don’t agree with Robyn isn’t as bad as we think. Robyn couldn’t hide her badness from the camera in her actions and her words. Robyn has so much hell fire in her she can’t shed a tear if she wanted to. Robyn showed her evilness and her entitlement before she married Kody spiritually and she got worse when she legally married him.

Kody is 100% at fault for allowing Robyn’s manipulations to work but Robyn is absolutely the mastermind. The fact that times were better (Kody was driving the cars he should not have been when they were broke) was the only reason Robyn was ever there. I don’t believe she ever even liked Kody. Ever. She came for the show, the fame, the money, and to not have to raise her own kids or work in any other way. But when we allow evil to win we are just as implicit as the one doing evil. So Kody is 100% at fault.

Both! She exploited and manipulated his mid life new riches crisis. We know she had "experience" which the other wives never did. Kody is a typical second marriage dad/husband except he didn't get a divorce he marriage 4 wives.

I do agree. I don’t think Robyn is diabolical and wanting the wives to leave. She absolutely wanted them to fund her and her kids’ lifestyles and to get into heaven. With the position she’s been in, having a doting husband and father for her kids, of course polygamy has been wonderful for her! If only those pesky other wives that Kody felt obligated to would’ve been her best friends, she’d have had it made!
I think simply the addition of said, younger, thinner, wife who’s desperate for a meal ticket and eager to please her new hero was the catalyst for the family disintegrating.
The vast majority of the blame DOES fall on Kody but Robyn did have plenty of chances to prevent some of the problems. Her bottom line was safe, so she didn’t really push. Like the fact Kody regularly spent other kids’ time on Sol and Ari. She could’ve said, “Absolutely not, I don’t feel right that the other kids aren’t getting their fair share of your time. Myself or the nanny will only deal with our kids on others’ time.”
The sad thing is that I think you’re right. Really, even if Robyn would’ve advocated for the others when Kody didn’t want to, the bottom line is that the others were simply an obligation to him. His heart only wanted the new family, period. I still strongly dislike Robyn due to how she’s handled this from start to now. She’s always stroking Kody’s ego and defending him knowing of unfairness going on. But Kody put Robyn in a terrible situation where there was no way she was going to get the polygamist lifestyle she dreamed of. The other wives and kids are naturally going to resent those who Kody just naturally prefers and cares more for.

I hadn’t decided on whether or not I would continue to watch sister wives. Then I listened to “Without a Crystal Ball”. She claims that Kody is trying to sue all his kids thru the network if they talk poorly about him and that is why all the kids disappeared. If this is true, I’m out.

I don’t think Kody had the skills or life plan to maintain 3 let alone 4 marriages. He didn’t have a clue. He kept adding wives without solving problems or increasing equitable family income. Robyn joined the family in debt and without a real career. She made a bad situation worse for the OG3. His Midlife crises equated to constantly moving. Avoidance without facing consequences or responsibilities, IMO.
Kody and Robyn haven't had to go through hard financial times which often can make or break a relationship. If things get tough financially I don't see Robyn sticking around.
You're right. This is why a lot of women nowadays don't want to marry men who are still building. A lot of them use women and their resources to establish themselves then they move on to show a new woman a good time.

I would say 50 % Kody - 30 % Robin and 20 % OG3 for putting up with it for so long and not shutting it down sooner. Christine knew from day one and she spoke up - but not loud enough or forceful enough - when Robyn would try and defend herself/make excuses - the OG3 should have come down on her hard - but they never did. Either you participate with your kids equally or you are gone. That means no nannies, sticking to the schedule and sharing child care duties. with the other wives. Because they didn't handle their business - the boys felt they had to stick up for them, which led to more problems.
Excellent point. It always annoyed me how the wives would back down so easily even when they did speak up. They let Robyn get away with her manipulating crap. Crying no tears to shift the focus off of what the wives were saying. And yes it caused the boys mental health issues because not only were they being neglected and abused but they saw their mothers being mistreated too. And they were tormented enough they tried to defend their mothers.

This is probably the first time I’m gonna kind of disagree with you on something it’s because you’ve got take into account even though it wasn’t part of the show really but Robyn treated her first husband horribly She also was very manipulative and ran his business to the ground because she was selfish and a shopper she put them in complete debt and then she took his kids away from him . And who makes the kids call the new guy dad when they have a dad even before they were married they were expected to call Kody their father that’s not right. I do agree with you. He was probably in a midlife crisis and it’s true. I’ve seen men that treat their new ones better but I’m really believe Robyn took advantage of every opportunity. She said she wanted a polygamist family other mothers to love her kids but then she didn’t even let any of the wives look after her own kids she insisted on having a nanny and remember Robyn brought the debt into the family. They were not yet “ well off “ when Robyn came in with her financial debt . 7:59 It’s not like kody chose a young thing with no problems. She had three kids, one with autism and a huge debt that he decided to take care of, meaning, the other wives had to help pay that off for her . I can’t let Robyn off the hook she helped destroy this family. Sorry for my long comments here but I truly believe Robyn is a huge reason for this family to explode and Of course it’s on Kody first ! I would definitely say it is a bit of both his midlife crisis and HER she knew how to read the signs and his triggers. And use it against the other wives to her advantage, and someone who knew robin as a child knew her to be this way who wrote to woacb and every time the wives did some thing for Cody I bet she oned-up them. And that happened until she’s the only one left. She probably wanted competition if you think about it.
I think she enjoyed being the favorite wife more than she enjoys being the only wife.

My husband went thru a midlife crisis. We had a good marriage until this "woman" who was 9 years younger than him turned his head. Almost cost us our marriage of 21 years. Men who do this need a constant boost to their ego.

As someone who has been in a committed relationship with someone who is 15 years older, my senior. I believe that she manipulated him. I saw that I could've been very manipulative. However, I just chose not to do so. Men are visual creatures. I truly fell in love with him.

Love, middle age and younger woman have not a thing to do with robyn's manipulation of kody, the OG3 and the children. She use them all to get what she wanted. kody is just an idiot.
Robin was no innocent at all she played up Kody’s infatuation with her. They BOTH have a hand in destroying the family they claim “to have wanted/loved” so badly. No one is perfect and I’m sure the OG 3 have faults as we all do but no those two (R&K) were selfish.

I suspected Robyn was using illicit drugs because of how thin she was. It was unnatural. If she had been that thin naturally she would stilll be thin. When it’s natural it’s difficult to gain weight. A lot of people are secret users at the age she was. Maybe that’s why she was Kody’s favorite, they had a secret life together. People bond over being evil together. That’s why Kody looks like a mean bastard now and Robyn looks like a mean witch. That’s not normal aging. That’s drug use.
