Really? I'm glad you told me that, it tells me where to direct my issue. This scene honestly feels a little ridiculous to me. I definitely understand Dooku believing this was the plan to the end of the Clone Wars, and I understand all of the thoughts/doubts/wishes he has here. But for the life of me I cannot imagine him being stupid enough to voice any of the thoughts that weren't about Anakin to Palpatine. Talking to a Sith like that may as well be holding up a big neon sign saying 'I should die now.'
For all the evil Dooku has done, I can't help but feel this scene makes me feel bad for him. A man who wanted to bring a new age of order and a better government and realized too late his own master saw him as nothing more than a pawn.
The ROTS Novelization was one of the first Star Wars books I read growing up. It was captivating to see the events behind the characters' eyes, but it was also melancholic to see these interactions between such dynamic characters that we unfortunately never see make it to the big screen. Dooku did so much for Sidious, and in the end he was discarded without remorse. Great job, as always, Stories!
Completely agree. Palpatine convincing Hego that the Jedi had to be destroyed philosophically before they can be destroted physically was intense writing.
I love these stories. This particular conversation that takes place, not seen in the movie, right before Anakin and Obi-Wan show up is actually canon from Matthew Stover's novelization of ROTS. It's a great read and my personal all time favorite book.
I'd heard this conversation took place in the novelization but haven't read it myself. Does this video match the text or is the dialogue here based upon it?
I really love these. Since Dooku was ranting about Grievous’ failings, could you make one of these videos focusing on Grievous next? Maybe one where he argues about his strength despite not having the force and practically being a robot?
Disney _can't even hire anyone properly these days._ Or won't - out of spite. Why do people keep suggesting that Disney should be hiring someone? They can't be trusted with SW franchise. _Period._
I've never liked the idea of Dooku being this aware of Palpatine's plans regarding Anakin and still obedient enough to play along. I mean, of course he is loyal, but it's because he's constantly assured of his future role as a second-in-command in Sidious-reigned galaxy. He knows the Rule of Two and he's clearly no fool, so hearing what he heard here he'd immediately understand he's expendable and he'll soon be replaced by Skywalker if he fulfills his role to the end. Even more, I was also disappointed when Filoni made him responsible for planting Order 66 within clones. Meaning that he knew from the start he would be leading the war meant to be lost. It would be so much cooler if Dooku knew only one scenario - of Separatist victory over the Republic - while Palpatine starting the Clone Wars was prepared for both sides to eventually win. So it would be EITHER Order 66 and Republic transformation into the Empire OR Separatists becoming dominant force in the galaxy and decimation of the Jedi by their hands.
It also shows how Dooku never truly saw himself as a Sith. He saw his role at Palpatine's side as a temporary one to reach his political goals. He thought the Dark Side was merely a tool that he could use and discard when it suited him, but that's never the case.
@raistlin3462 “Play your part [...] Palpatine and Anakin.” ======================== I do not think that Sidious ever intended to share power with Anakin either.

What always makes me chuckle is Dooku was 20 years older than his "Master" Sidious, yet he was so easily manipulated by the Sith Lord. Guess he wasnt as "wise" as he thought he was
Palpatine/Sidious' greatest weapon as a Sith is not his lightsaber combat skills, nor his abilities granted through the Force such as telekinesis or lightning blasts, it is his keen foresight, strategic mind, and masterful way with words.
