I have lived in Berlin since the early 1980s and saw both sides of the Wall. It was grim, maybe more so on the eastern side, but nowhere near what the footage here depicts. At the very least the trams here are wrong. Only East Berlin had trams, but they looked different to the ones here.

As for the context, you could imagine that Germany got the same treatment as the Ottoman Empire after WW1and was split up in a myriad of smaller states, all about the size of Denmark , Netherlands or Belgium , Berlin would have been greatly oversized for its area and many people would leave, getting a town looking as desperate as this clip .. This could then be late 30's, 40's or even the 50's

In my imagination, this would seem to be what East Berlin would look like today had the Berlin Wall, the anti-tank barriers, the Death Strip and the inner wall not been dismantled near the end of the Cold War almost 35 years ago.
As an artwork, this is both extremely haunting yet strangely eye-catching. That said; As a man who's stuck in the UK by circumstance but has a _Liebe_ for Germany that's extremely strong, I'd be more inclined to think of these scenes as being from London rather than Berlin. 😇 I will also add - As an _Eisenbahnfan_ - That a lot of the tram depictions are a bit off. Ignoring tram types and designs; The first one appears to be floating (Bogies not visible/not rendered at all), pantographs often don't seem to be in contact with any wires (Or the wires are „Hanging“ from the pantograph), and in the last one the tram emerges from the branch on the right, though the points (Weiche) is set to the branch on the left. In a realistic situation this would either cause the points to change over as they're forced into position by the leading bogie, or (If the points were locked-in such the latter couldn't happen) the tram would derail. 💁 One thing I can definitely find *no* fault in is the train driver. He is Handsome. A. F! ❤🔥 Great work on this! 👍
This is probably the most artistic use of AI I've seen so far, and by a significant margin too. I like how you used the inherent limitations and quirks of the medium to your advantage. The choice to simulate photography was also a good one, since photography requires an underlying reality that, in this case, doesn't exist and so only AI could provide. Nice job!
Thank you so much for your comment! Yes, AI unleashes my creativity. I work as a 3D artist, but I wouldn't be able to do in 3D such images and animations without a big animation team and a lot money for production. AI animation is ideal when you want to give a dreamy mood.
You work in this animation reminds of Enki Bilal comics. I lived in 80's Berlin too, Tegel, in West with occasional day trips to Ost. It's a very different city now. The government buildings, the new Hbf, the huge gentrification of Kreuzberg, the demographic modification, the tourists holes. Typically people like us who knew pre-1990 Berlin are deceived by the current Berlin. I returned two times after 1988, in 2016 and in 2021, and well, no.
I wouldn't say that the actual Berlin deceives me, but it has lost this very special character from the 80's. It hast still very nice spots, but the morbid decaying with so many reminiscences of the dark past is gone. I'm very happy that this animation has reminded you of Enki Bilal. I loved the aesthetics of Enki Bilal's comics.
