I have worked outside of Canada for two long stints. You do pay a big price when you leave Canada, you lose your second circle of friends. You become distant from your first group of friends. You lose Sunday dinners and you miss life events for friends and family. When you return you are an outsider. So, there is a price to pay when you emigrate. It is not all peaches and cream.

      Hi there,
All things in life are not peaches and cream.
I think everyone is different based on their family situation and lifestyle. Everyone adapts differently.
For me, my parents were immigrants to Canada from the UK, I grew up with no family around me. I later replanted myself to the west coat, leaving school friends behind. Today through social media we have all reconnected, which is nice.
As for the kids, we were living blocks away from them and they were all busy, busy in their careers. Sunday dinners were too longing.
Today, the boys hop on planes and are thrilled to have an opportunity to travel, for free.None of them could afford to travel otherwise. We have the best quality times together and everyone is genuinely happy to be together.
My best friend in the world lives in Victoria, our friendship never wavers and is never judged. .We cheer each other on. For her, she has lived in Oak Bay all of her life and will never leave there. Everyone is different.
Thanks for watching! So much more to come :)

Let me get this straight. Your friends don't stay friendly with you because you left their immediate vicinity for a year or three. That is not a definition of a friend. Funny, I just went out for dinner with a friend from five to ten years ago and it was kind of almost like nothing had changed between us, apart from the missed time, literally.

    • @rb239rtr
      @rb239rtr Месяц назад +6

@@MrGamman3yt What happens is your interests change. Another thing that happens is you may visit once or twice a year, see them for a day. The next time you see them, you view it as last weekend, but they have changed a lot in that time period. Regarding good friends, you never lose them, regarding people outside of that group, distance starts to build. When I went oversees, a friend told me about this. He was 100% correct.

I'm in the process of selling everything I own I am a Newfoundlander by birth and after working in the mines of Northern Ontario I retired back in Newfoundland. I have world wide insurance and pension from Glencore. Before I came back home I spent two years living in Victoria on a 27ft C&C sailboat and taught myself how to sail never was so at peace when I lost sight of land yes I was on fishing boats but sailing isn't the same..I thought staying in the home of my birth would bring some contentment but like John Steinbeck said - 'You can't go home again because home has ceased to exist except in the mothballs of memory.'Hate everything I own like a heavy chain around my neck. I figured if I sell my house and everything in it to young family for a fair price and give them a start it makes sense. The house is worth a crazy price since I bought it twenty years ago. The fair price will get me a nice smaller sailboat I can handle myself until I get better at blue water sailing. Can stick to the B. C coast until I learn more maybe I will just buy a 32ft blue water boat first thing. Can live in temporary accommodations until I find what I need. Then check out Mexico and decide from there maybe stay in Canada in the summer and sail down to Mexico for 5 months.. Trust me I know how you feel but maybe people will think me crazy but how does a seagull explain that they have to head offshore now and then.. without you thinking them mad..

Living life is all about having meaning and purpose. Being in my kids and grandkids daily lives is much more valuable to us than traveling the world. Traveling is great but we find it gets old when there are so many important moments to be together as a large family in Canada. Each situation is different and if there are no major ties or reasons to stay, maybe it is worthwhile to consider.

But a big part of the reason we got where we are, is that we have always been frugal. We try not to spend more than we have to. And that is why we’re living offshore. Canada has become ridiculous. And during our travels we have met many people, young and old. All different income levels. And the one common trait they all possessed was they were happy. Precisely. Like so much of social media, videos like these don't reflect the reality on the ground for the vast majority of today's younger middle class, who have near zero hope of owning a home in North America, or of accumulating wealth anymore. Blame corporate greed; wealth hoarding; and failed public policies written by the "donor" class. In fact, the past 45 years have seen the greatest wealth transfer in history from middle income earners to the top 2%. And our society is collapsing because of it.

And becoming an expat of this once great country….I have been preemptive about readying our nest egg for exit, although there will be some tax implications once we fully leave for good. I agree with your points. Travel while your healthy and. Having true healthcare is a dream that Canadians don’t really have. I will enjoy your channel and the tips you will have for those who will surely follow suit. Enjoy. Be safe and god speed.

@@jillpemberton1434 we did three treks to sit with the gorillas (ages ago when it wasn’t overly touristy). Life changing experiences for sure but not sure if it’s a well managed activity?? We went there in honour of Diane Fossey who was murdered by the locals for trying to protect the gorillas. It’s a complicated world. Also. What struck me is how Monsanto, bought by Bayer, was growing chrysanthemums for pyrethroids. Not sure sure if there’s a balance wrt food security and economic benefits for Rwanda 🇷🇼. Lovely people though. We had the best trekking guides ever. So much fun. Overall great experience and I love the Great Apes. Trivia question. Without cheating. We will be back in Victoria July 6th - 20th. Then we were off to the UK,, Italy, Australia, New Zealand...then who knows ?
Wd have some videos coming up about on how we financially do this and achieve this lifestyle. We also have one coming up with our Mexican agent to discuss the process. It's actually a very easy process, the toughest step is the first one. The cost is about 500.00 p/p. Once you have permanent residency, it"s good for always. I think things are going to get tougher in Canada.

It’s easy to judge others and say must be nice or you are so lucky or look what you have. I have learned to not take it personal anymore these judgements because they have nothing to do with me. No one knows for sure, but we believe there’s going to be a very large downturn in the Canadian real estate market. And yes we did invest the proceeds into a conservative balanced portfolio. This is not a trust fund though. Both Jill and myself worked very hard our whole lives, and are reaping the rewards now. We continue to do this because we continue to make wise investment decisions. And right now, we believe owning a home in British Columbia, is a poor investment. It also ties us down.

Stew Young messed up the WestShore. Way too many houses without the infrastructure to support it. Downtown is a drug & homeless wasteland. Traffic is starting to feel like lower Mainland.
One thing that I disagree with is regarding the expected downturn in the R.E. market. Maybe other parts of Canada but not here. I have seen at least 4 separate "downturns" in the market and all I saw here was prices *hold* for a year or two. Then they continued on their steady climb northwards. The first house I bought here is now worth 7 times what I paid for it and can bring in $3k/month on top of that in rent.
I will go look for your next video for details but when you say you are saving money by leaving Canada- does that actually mean that you are "spending less"?

I am sure decades of hard work and sacrifice led up to this era of your life but for most people I think what holds them back is budgeting, finances and all the questions and concerns surrounding that and how to make it last long term

You had me at "canada is not what it used to be". This coming from an immigrant! Congratulations first of all, thank you for the video and it for sure puts things in perspective. Here in the Peoples Socialist Province of Quebec, I feel that with time, you become a lobster in a hot pot - develop the Stockholm syndrome. You feel things are not right but nobody around you feels it or says anything, you feel weird and then you meet people that DO or DID feel it and did something about it. Canada from its state run propaganda media dont help - how is it possible that people die in the Hospital waiting room?! Why are they not helping make Canada the country it one was by educating and properly informing its people?!
This is not only sad but it should trigger a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. How can Canada have people die in the hospital waiting room with the amount of money thrown in to this system... yes now the "its free crowd" will come and defend it.
It will be interesting to know what you did to transfer out the money and from where you handle your finances.
Thank you again and please enjoy on behalf of the ones that cant leave for the moment ;)

      HelloI
I use to live in South Oak Bay for many years. I was just back in Victoria for 2 weeks. I visited some of my favorite spots like Delish, Charlotte and Quail and I had to go to the Deep Cove Chalet in North Saanich with my bestie..
Randy and I, are not trust fund babies, nor did we inherit from our parents. We have worked hard all of our lives and we have been financially savvy.
We sold our home in North Saanich and purchased a home in Nanoose Bay during the crazy covid times. The home we purchased increased by 70% so we decided to sell it.
The writing has been on the wall, with the direction Canada is going. It's going down a dark hole. After traveling around the world for the past year, it's astounding to me, just how far behind Canada is falling. Its seems so backwards.
We never had an issue about paying our fair share of taxes and seeing the vulnerable being helped, streets feeling safe, a medical system and healthcare that works but today it's a complete failure. The affordability threshold, Victoria is simply unaffordable. My sons will never be able to own a home there under these conditions.
The mismanagement of our tax dollars is disgusting. The more you pay , the less you get. Also, in the last Liberal budget - the assault of taxes on the transfer of wealth to the next generation.
So we decided to obtain Mexican permanent residency two years ago and leave Canada, It's quite an easy process.
Today we are living a much better life.
      1) We REAL healthcare
      2) We reduced our taxes
      3) We have complete freedom
      Cheers,
      Jill

@@jillpemberton1434 Thanks Jill, Nanoose is a lovely spot, placed a long gone geocache on the tidal island out there when we lived on Protection. Now we're out in New Brunswick and planning a change as soon as we can make it work. Will be interested to follow along your adventures. We are planning on some slow travel in combination with a new residency somewhere, Panama is top of the list now. Thanks for putting out your Canadian focused approach. My greatest disappointment in Canada is the realization that what once was a great nation has been co-opted by special interest politicians who have turned politics into a self serving career at the expense of the taxpayers. The system is broken and without massive democratic, electoral and tax reforms, it's just not going to be fixed. We don't have enough years left to make it right. Sad.

@@jillpemberton1434 Funny thing is, lower BC is the best of Canada. If people are leaving there, how much more sense does it make for everyone else. Southern Ontario is as expensive now.. makes no sense. The great exodus of Canada. I think 2024 will see the highest number in Canadian history.

Please talk more about the health insurance! Was that a private insurance in Mexico only? Or a travelers insurance?

      Hey there,
We will be going into healthcare in a video very soon with a in depth look. This is NOT travel insurance. This is healthcare insurance world wide. It excludes the US but you are still allowed 21 days of travel. You can include the US but then you will be paying a lot more!
      In the meantime,
The cost varies by each individual. Your age, any preexisting conditions, where you need it for, how much you insure yourself for and your deductible. You should also include medivac.
This has given us the freedom we have always yearned for.
      We use Cigna.
The cost is around 10k per year. It includes a wellness test, every year and this is free. We did ours in KL., Malaysia, also so, so much more.
Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. We really appreciate you taking the time to write. Stay tuned!
      Cheers,
      Jill
