Agreed, especially the quip about working for Harvey Weinstein and Martin Scorsese is absolutely right CGI movies are a load of rubbish. Movies for morons.
I think it's broader than that Gillian. The term "Hollywood Elite" is an easy throw away term that certain people use without much thought. I mean who is this elite you refer to? Clint Eastwood is extremely powerful in that world, but never seems to be included in this description, possibly due to his association and withthe modern day Republican party. I think what Ricky is pointing out and making fun of is US celebrity culture and how Americans live vicariously through individuals they worship - from Nikki Minaj, to Donald Trump; from LeBron James to Jesus or whichever cult leader. Having established that wealth and/or fame=success without any thought of how that wealth and fame is generated and sustained and how it impacts on society, certain aspects of US culture, now exported throughout the world, deify the achievement of fame - much of which is utterly useless to most people around the world. Sure, the "Hollywood" is part of that, but it seems that Ricky is talking about much more than just a group, whether he means to or not.
@WelshAmethystGirl087 Funny How when its an English person its "British" but when a scot or welsh person wins something or excels in something they are 'Welsh' or 'Scottish'. Just decided im going to hound people for this, you know with my good bad 'English' humour x.
He’s a Brit, that’s our humour. There’s nothing like going to the pub on a Friday or Saturday night and meeting up with your mates, then spend the night ripping them apart.
@mynameismark25true but it's all scripted , he means our natural ability to be absolutely brutal with eachother on a daily basis , not just for TV. Like in Scotland we toughen each other up by giving each other a hard time whereas in the US you like to give each other compliments and pat each other on the back . I'm not critisising, just pointing out the differences, and believe me there's been many times I'd had rather had the American approach
It was amazing to finally have a host who spoke for the common man or woman watching at home. We don't care what their politics are, we care about how good their acting is
Chaps, you really have to get worldly wise.British humour is like no other. They rip people apart in a very dry , sarcastic way . Having said that, there is nothing like the truth. And everything he said, was the truth.
Me as a European fully understand the British way and just love it. On the other hand, there had been numerous times while living stateside, that I was just dumbfounded by their slapstick comedy. Great comment !☮
@elkevera Thankyou. Its a funny thing American comedy.Programmes like Cheers , amazing.Friends on the other hand,I don't think I ever laughed once. The big thing I have found with Americans, and I realise it's wrong to generalise,is their lack of knowledge regarding the rest of the world. They are incredibly naive sometimes. What do you think?Am I wrong?
@belshbelsh6962 Agreed upon. Check out "Foreign Reacts", he has a series of vids, that will further explain your point of view. Or just type in "What is the dumbest thing, you have been asked by an American." You will fall of the chair laughing or just sit with your mouth wide open. BTW: I am married to an American, he has favorite British comedy shows he liked to watch. We live in Germany since 2010.
@belshbelsh6962 agreed on your every word. Americans seem very naive about the rest of the world, and I also never once laughed at Friends. The only American sitcoms I ever watched and loved were The Golden Girls and Everybody Loves Raymond 👍🏻
Just remember Ricky is entertaining the millions at home not the hundreds of privileged celebrities in the room. Let's be honest how many of us watch these award ceremonies, but we do when Ricky is hosting!
Weeeell, I'd say it's more the case that he's entertaining the British and Australian public who get and appreciate his humour. Going by this 'reaction' video, a lot of Americans take him too seriously - and while they might understand what he's getting at, they don't find it funny, necessarily. It's a cultural thing. Brits/Aussies laugh at themselves and eye roll at self-agrandising carry on. Generally, Americans love all that patting themselves on the back stuff.
I was very shocked when a friend told me that Americans didn’t really understand our humour. Didn’t really believe it but most of those celebrities proved it right 😂 Respect to those who laughed it off, I mean what was said that wasn’t really already known
Gervais gives a master class on satire. As with any good humour, it’s well researched and practiced until perfect. He makes walking the tightrope between satire and ridicule look easy.
Just remember our American friends. This is Ricky acting out typical British sarcastic comedy. The procucers of the show are fully aware that he says what he wants, nothing is taboo for him. The actors know it's what he does, so why Tom Hanks etc pull outraged faces is ridiculous. Just don't go to it ! Robert Di Nero realises and simply laughs it off, as the vast majority of British actors would too.
I don't think Hanks was outraged, he was just taken aback by the balls on Ricky to say what he was saying. His reaction was possibly the most honest there. Most of the other celebs were fake smiling through gritted teeth and it was a pleasure to watch them squirm. De Niro did seem to be enjoying himself though.
you have all got to remember that the reactions of the stars have all been edited, when Tom Hanks pulled that face, it wasn't for what Ricky said just then, it was filmed another time and just edited in.
Scorsese is the only one, in my view, that truly had fun and didn’t mind the jokes, even if Ricky took a bit easy with him, there’s not much you can say about him anyway. I should have expected Hanks reaction, but I was surprised for a minute, than I realised he is a facade
"if he's that mad why did he take the job" this is a typical example of Americans not getting our dryness 😂😂 you seem like nice lads tho and good reaction 😎
I am so pleased that you are in to Ricky Gervais Joel, his sense of humour is second to none and I'm not sure if you could fully understand what he's about until you see him on a talk show, he will say anything and he just doesn't care. The man is a total legend. How great it is to see Mack again featuring in your videos, it just gives us a fresh perspective on reactions. I wonder if he could ever have imagined what roommate he would have at college?? and he ended up with a youtube star hahaha. Keep doing what you're doing Joel, Lyd xx
He's was right. People say they're woke.. But the very fact that truth has to be approached in a manner such as comedy, it says a lot about us. The things that are happening in the surrounding world aren't funny.. 🤔 yet if it has to be spoken about. But, no one can express it.. It becomes funny. The world needs telling off. And comedy is the only known outlet other than war. Or sport.
Ricky is my favourite human. He is the complete package of perfection to me, So smart, insightful, funny, kind, caring, thoughtful and he's like a sniffer dog for bullshit and hypocrisy, that's the only thing he goes after with negativity.
It's unbelievable that at 18yrs old Americans have the constitutional right to bare arms but can't say rude words, everything with foul language is censored, WTF is that all about
within the laws there is still freedom we also have it in the uk nothing wrong with Americans it the governments or law makers like the same here with Whitehall and the eu that we are still under someone else is creating the laws.
@XENONEOMORPH1979 each to their own, personally I detest the American mentality, yay America the greatest country in the world,I've had several online discussions with Americans and they still believe America won ww2 singlehandedly, bunch of delusional Muppets
Loved it. Though he stole the vegetable joke from a famous Spitting Image sketch: Margaret Thatcher is ordering at a restaurant, the waitress says "and what about the vegetables"? Maggie looks Arora be the tae at the all male guests & says "they'll have the steak".
Martin Scorsese gets we Brits, completely. As does Leo de Caprio. If we are gushingly sweet to our friends and family, they wonder what the feck is wrong!! 😂
Love it, if he did that in British audiences, they would go wild,(with laughter) . The Irish , that is another sense of humour way above anything else 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love Ricky. He’s very relatable. People are sick of seeing such a backwards and damaging entertainment business. He just says it’s as it is. I have a very similar view and humour to his, which sometimes gets me into trouble 🤣
Hey Joel! Actors, politicians any many others in positions of power or elite need bringing down to earth every now and again! Ricky does that perfectly and, as he said, he doesn't care, especially with it being his last one and if you can't take a joke at your own expense, don't put yourself in a position for it to happen! Don't get me wrong, there's a difference between a joke, banter and bullying etc, imo he certainly didn't cross any kind of lines of of the joke spectrum and they all knew who was presenting!...
you have all got to remember that the reactions of the stars have all been edited, when Tom Hanks pulled that face, it wasn't for what Ricky said just then, it was filmed another time and just edited in.
Truth is, as Gervais points out in interviews, the viewing numbers for these award shows were in decline until he, representing us the masses, as if we care about A lister sensibilities, represents us, sitting on a sofa, drinking beer roasting these beautiful people, their obscene wealth and sensibilities making us, like you want to take time to watch. Genius.
As a recent recruit to your channel, i was surfing for rugby union clips,, i just love the way you want to learn about things that are so foreign to yoursel ees! Cymru am Beith (Welsh)
Just to add 😶 Banter is very much a thing here in the UK . Basically it's a way of insulting , sometimes really rude but it's just part of our style . I frequently insult my friends and they insult me back . We often really insult each other but it's just a joke thing . Ricky was doing a really British form of humour but I think he kinda nailed a few truths on this occasion . Just my opinion 👋
Ricky smashed it pointing out the hypocrisy of Hollywood. People in their ivory towers preaching to all who will listen. British humour is like no other and Ricky has no topic he will not go to. He is never racist or mocks those with disabilities, a fantastic comedian .
Americans just don't get his humour sometimes. He's not mad he's just joking, it's his style of humour. British humour is totally different to American humour. I bet Tom Hanks had a speech prepared with that look on his face.
I used to like Tom Hanks, but after watching his sour face through out Ricky's monologue, he clearly hasn't got a sense of humour, thumbs-up to Martin Scorses and Leonardo Dicaprio for going along with it 👍👍😜
He was pointing out the hypocrisy of the Hollywood elites. Well done Ricky!
Agreed, especially the quip about working for Harvey Weinstein and Martin Scorsese is absolutely right CGI movies are a load of rubbish. Movies for morons.

Yes because conservatives and Trump were NEVER hypocritical.
@ODB what ! All he's saying is fucked up people shouldn't pontificate and preach that's all , and let's face it that's all Hollywood .
In spades.
I think Ricky smashed this, perfect way to show British humour
Such a banter "
He ripped them to shreds
Good English Humour you mean x
@Mmm-------79-f4z yes my bad good British humour
@WelshAmethystGirl087 Funny How when its an English person its "British" but when a scot or welsh person wins something or excels in something they are 'Welsh' or 'Scottish'. Just decided im going to hound people for this, you know with my good bad 'English' humour x.
Fair play to the people that laughed at his jokes rather than getting upset. Ricky was 100% right with this one.
I feel like it’s a good indicator of who the perverts actually are by how they reacted.
He’s a Brit, that’s our humour. There’s nothing like going to the pub on a Friday or Saturday night and meeting up with your mates, then spend the night ripping them apart.

@mynameismark25 Americans doesn't know a roast
come on dude, dont bring yourself on the podest. there's much worse thing going on in your country and you couldn't stop it
Ricky has no time for Hollywood and he's not joking .he's serious which is why he's so funny 🥰
Love Ricky Gervais. He doesn't care. British humour at its best
You either love him or hate him and he's one of my favourites. He just doesn't care and will say how it is. Too many snowflakes nowadays.
Such truths !!. Why do people act shocked??. Because he dares to call them out...love from the 🇬🇧
Doesn't matter how many times you watch it, its just as hilarious each time.
Ricky's punchlines are daggers, nobody does that better then him honestly
The line of all lines..."Thank your agent, your God and F*** off!!! Brilliant
It was amazing to finally have a host who spoke for the common man or woman watching at home. We don't care what their politics are, we care about how good their acting is

Brilliant, their faces when someone doesn’t suck up to their entitled BS
Just remember Ricky is entertaining the millions at home not the hundreds of privileged celebrities in the room. Let's be honest how many of us watch these award ceremonies, but we do when Ricky is hosting!
True. I have only ever watched them with Ricky presenting.
Weeeell, I'd say it's more the case that he's entertaining the British and Australian public who get and appreciate his humour.

It's a cultural thing. Brits/Aussies laugh at themselves and eye roll at self-agrandising carry on. Generally, Americans love all that patting themselves on the back stuff.
That is what the producers wanted. Feedback and to do that, they want the next generation and see what is going on.
IT is Ricky that deserves the AWARD for just being there and putting up with the pompous individuals.
Just love it seeing all the divas being ribbed like that. They're too smug and self-important by half. 😊🙄
to be fair them divas were prob abused as children to be in the position they are in now ,but thats hollywood scandal in a nutshell
I was very shocked when a friend told me that Americans didn’t really understand our humour. Didn’t really believe it but most of those celebrities proved it right 😂

This wasn’t sarcasm, he meant it.
you have all got to remember that the reactions of the stars have all been edited, when Tom Hanks pulled that face, it wasn't for what Ricky said just then, it was filmed another time and just edited in.
You Can be sarcastic and still mean it Christopher.
Ricky Gervais is forever. Such fun to see his content!
They knew exactly what they were getting when they invited him to present. He always says it like it is
Ricky is a fucking icon and bloody legend. ❤️ Who knew Tom Hanks was such a bad sport lol
Yeah.. I can't watch new movies with Tom Hanks now😅
official customer of jeffrey epstein thats why.
Just banter mate, it's what it's like in the UK. We love taking the piss!
Scorsese is the only one, in my view, that truly had fun and didn’t mind the jokes, even if Ricky took a bit easy with him, there’s not much you can say about him anyway. I should have expected Hanks reaction, but I was surprised for a minute, than I realised he is a facade
Leonardo Dicaprio's response was great. He seemed to take it really well.
@c_n_b For Ricky, that was way too easy as well
Amy Pohler's eyes were saying, "Buckle the F up and hang on".
Tom Hanks is so full of himself.
@RealSteveTheGoat
Bullshit. He’s actually a very down to earth guy.
"if he's that mad why did he take the job" this is a typical example of Americans not getting our dryness 😂😂 you seem like nice lads tho and good reaction 😎
“Get drunk, take your drugs and fu@k off”
Being English myself this reminds me a lot of what a country pub landlord would say. 🤣
Ricky’s series: ‘Afterlife’ is really good, funny and emotional.
Ricky is my favourite comedienne loved the look on Woke Hanks face 😂😂😂
I've watched this so many times and it's still so funny ..I just love the look on all their faces .
I see Mack played it safe with a wave this time.
I am so pleased that you are in to Ricky Gervais Joel, his sense of humour is second to none and I'm not sure if you could fully understand what he's about until you see him on a talk show, he will say anything and he just doesn't care. yup, being woke is hypocrism, is about THEM and noone else

@XENONEOMORPH1979 yeah and the yanks bang on about "freedom" bunch of Muppets
within the laws there is still freedom we also have it in the uk
nothing wrong with Americans it the governments or law makers like the same here with Whitehall and the eu that we are still under someone else is creating the laws.
@XENONEOMORPH1979 each to their own, personally I detest the American mentality, yay America the greatest country in the world,I've had several online discussions with Americans and they still believe America won ww2 singlehandedly, bunch of delusional Muppets
They might have the constitutional right to bare arms when it's hot. What about bearing arms?
“ we’re all gonna die soon & there is no sequel “ comedy gold..
The “Prince Andrew “ joke tipped me over the edge🤣🤣🤣
And this was just when COVID-19 broke out!
This man is a great human being who does a lot of work for good causes. Has no time for the plastic world. Love ya Ricky
Loved it. Though he stole the vegetable joke from a famous Spitting Image sketch: Margaret Thatcher is ordering at a restaurant, the waitress says "and what about the vegetables"? Maggie looks Arora be the tae at the all male guests & says "they'll have the steak".
Your face and Matts at some of the things Ricky said was brilliant 🤩
Martin Scorsese gets we Brits, completely. As does Leo de Caprio. If we are gushingly sweet to our friends and family, they wonder what the feck is wrong!! 😂
And to top it off his an animal lover , love him ❤
"This guys face?" you dont know who Tom Hanks is?...kids...huh xD
Love it, if he did that in British audiences, they would go wild,(with laughter) . The Irish , that is another sense of humour way above anything else 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love Ricky. He’s very relatable. People are sick of seeing such a backwards and damaging entertainment business. He just says it’s as it is. I have a very similar view and humour to his, which sometimes gets me into trouble 🤣
And he doesn't give a shite 🤭
loved when he called them out for political speachs when they for companies like apple
Hey Joel! Actors, politicians any many others in positions of power or elite need bringing down to earth every now and again! He's a legend!
never gets old
British humour at its best.
A big Hi and Hello to Mac, the best camera person!
I love to see who can take a joke and acknowledge the hypocrisy amongst the A listers-and who can’t. Sometimes it’s not the ones you think 😂
Tom Hanks was not impressed lol 😆
@claregale9011 he was like that on the other Ricky gervais videos too ahah
you have all got to remember that the reactions of the stars have all been edited, when Tom Hanks pulled that face, it wasn't for what Ricky said just then, it was filmed another time and just edited in.
@Charlesjay7 really ?
Exactly. And Tom Hanks has no humour. I so thought he did
‘The Irishman’ was around 3.5 hours long.
I couldn't get through it, I love movies with all those guys but I just couldn't do it.
At least he’s honest about Hollywood people
1:03 Clearly, Will Smith wasn't informed about this.
It's funny how the last words Ricky said on Golden Globes are "Fuck off!"
Genius.
As a Brit I find this hilarious and not shocking in the slightest, he's holding a mirror up to Hollywood
British humour at its best,he smashed it
Spot on !
This guy right here.... Tom hanks 🤣
Love Ricky
He took the job because it needed to be said
As a recent recruit to your channel, i was surfing for rugby union clips,, i just love the way you want to learn about things that are so foreign to yoursel ees!
Cymru am Beith (Welsh)
i don't think reactors know that car license plates are made in prison. hence the Felicity Huffman gag
Thanks, I wondered about that!
Ricky deserved an award.
Yeah it was great to see their faces but since then they haven't learnt a thing have they. They still preach to us while doing what they want.
Exactly.
This is just reality in the UK, say what you think and call people out for being a tw**
He kept coming back because they kept having him back 😆
Waiting for someone in the audience to come up on stage and give Ricky a slap!!! 😂😂😂
I don't think Will Smith was there that year 👋👋👋😂
@michw3755 fuck, you said it before me lmao. Was Will Smith there for this one?
he took the job so he could call out hollywood pretty much
Robert de Niro has been in Ricky's series Extras.
I think your roommate has no clue the history of Hollywood. You both laughed on the safe jokes but the actual punches went right over your heads.
I don't think JPS mate got British humour.
@stephenhumphrey7935 Yeah ! I guess it's a British thing 👍
Speaking the truth😂
I got the feeling you didn’t know who Felicity Huffman and Ronan Farrow are and therefore the jokes are as funny.
There is an unedited version available!
Love Ricky Gervais. I've watched this clip so much
The ones genuinely laughing are probably the good ones.
I love the way Ricky Gervais trolls the religious..
Watch the first Golden Globes he did when he introduces Mel Gibson. Genius!
Interesting to see you revisit a video you've reacted to before however seeing your roommate's reaction to it as well as yours is great, Jps. 😊
And he's so humble!
Ricky smashed it pointing out the hypocrisy of Hollywood. People in their ivory towers preaching to all who will listen. British humour is like no other and Ricky has no topic he will not go to. He is never racist or mocks those with disabilities, a fantastic comedian .
USA adjust don’t get the UK humour which is hilarious in itself!
A brilliant guy, just says it how it is and isn't afraid to put himself down too.
Americans just don't get his humour sometimes. He's not mad he's just joking, it's his style of humour. British humour is totally different to American humour. I bet Tom Hanks had a speech prepared with that look on his face.
It’s typical British banter. Hilarious but true.
I used to like Tom Hanks, but after watching his sour face through out Ricky's monologue, he clearly hasn't got a sense of humour, thumbs-up to Martin Scorses and Leonardo Dicaprio for going along with it 👍👍😜
Brilliant
You tell them Ricky!
This just never gets old !
Ricky is smashing it lol 😆
Robert De Niro was in Ricky’s ‘Extras’ TV programme. I remember his character being obsessed with a pen
The nude lady pen.
Savage Ricky.
And Americans wonder why he gets so much love from us Brits lmao
It's unfortunate, but these two boys have absolutely no idea what or who Ricky is joking about 90% of the time
Love Ricky. He upset so many people😂
Well said RICKY!!! Telling the TRUTH
OZZ D💚💛
Когда история на ночь?
Love Ricky.
Hes always being funny,every time
