      Agreed, especially the quip about working for Harvey Weinstein and Martin Scorsese is absolutely right CGI movies are a load of rubbish. Movies for morons.

      @warrenmcgregor8434 3 years ago +7

      I think it's broader than that Gillian. The term "Hollywood Elite" is an easy throw away term that certain people use without much thought. I mean who is this elite you refer to? Clint Eastwood is extremely powerful in that world, but never seems to be included in this description, possibly due to his association and withthe modern day Republican party. I think what Ricky is pointing out and making fun of is US celebrity culture and how Americans live vicariously through individuals they worship - from Nikki Minaj, to Donald Trump; from LeBron James to Jesus or whichever cult leader.
      Having established that wealth and/or fame=success without any thought of how that wealth and fame is generated and sustained and how it impacts on society, certain aspects of US culture, now exported throughout the world, deify the achievement of fame - much of which is utterly useless to most people around the world. Sure, the "Hollywood" is part of that, but it seems that Ricky is talking about much more than just a group, whether he means to or not.

      @mynameismark25true but it's all scripted , he means our natural ability to be absolutely brutal with eachother on a daily basis , not just for TV. Like in Scotland we toughen each other up by giving each other a hard time whereas in the US you like to give each other compliments and pat each other on the back . I'm not critisising, just pointing out the differences, and believe me there's been many times I'd had rather had the American approach

      @elkevera Thankyou.Its a funny thing American comedy.Programmes like Cheers , amazing.Friends on the other hand,I don't think I ever laughed once.The big thing I have found with Americans,and I realise it's wrong to generalise,is their lack of knowledge regarding the rest of the world.They are incredibly naive sometimes.What do you think?Am I wrong?

      @elkevera 4 years ago +6

      @belshbelsh6962 Agreed upon. Check out "Foreign Reacts", he has a series of vids, that will further explain your point of view. Or just type in "What is the dumbest thing, you have been asked by an American." You will fall of the chair laughing or just sit with your mouth wide open. BTW: I am married to an American, he has favorite British comedy shows he liked to watch. We live in Germany since 2010.

    • @lemondrop219
      @lemondrop219 4 years ago +3

      Weeeell, I'd say it's more the case that he's entertaining the British and Australian public who get and appreciate his humour.
      Going by this 'reaction' video, a lot of Americans take him too seriously - and while they might understand what he's getting at, they don't find it funny, necessarily.
      It's a cultural thing. Brits/Aussies laugh at themselves and eye roll at self-agrandising carry on. Generally, Americans love all that patting themselves on the back stuff.

  • @stevesilk51

    Just remember our American friends. This is Ricky acting out typical British sarcastic comedy. The procucers of the show are fully aware that he says what he wants, nothing is taboo for him. The actors know it's what he does, so why Tom Hanks etc pull outraged faces is ridiculous. Just don't go to it ! Robert Di Nero realises and simply laughs it off, as the vast majority of British actors would too.

    • @nforne
      @nforne 4 years ago +13

      I don't think Hanks was outraged, he was just taken aback by the balls on Ricky to say what he was saying. His reaction was possibly the most honest there. Most of the other celebs were fake smiling through gritted teeth and it was a pleasure to watch them squirm.
      De Niro did seem to be enjoying himself though.

    He's was right. People say they're woke.. But the very fact that truth has to be approached in a manner such as comedy, it says a lot about us. The things that are happening in the surrounding world aren't funny.. 🤔 yet if it has to be spoken about. But, no one can express it..
    It becomes funny. The world needs telling off. And comedy is the only known outlet other than war. Or sport.

    Hey Joel! Actors, politicians any many others in positions of power or elite need bringing down to earth every now and again! Ricky does that perfectly and, as he said, he doesn't care, especially with it being his last one and if you can't take a joke at your own expense, don't put yourself in a position for it to happen! Don't get me wrong, there's a difference between a joke, banter and bullying etc, imo he certainly didn't cross any kind of lines of of the joke spectrum and they all knew who was presenting!...

    I think your roommate has no clue the history of Hollywood. You both laughed on the safe jokes but the actual punches went right over your heads.

    Just to add 😶 Banter is very much a thing here in the UK . Basically it's a way of insulting , sometimes really rude but it's just part of our style . I frequently insult my friends and they insult me back . We often really insult each other but it's just a joke thing . Ricky was doing a really British form of humour but I think he kinda nailed a few truths on this occasion . Just my opinion 👋

    I got the feeling you didn’t know who Felicity Huffman and Ronan Farrow are and therefore the jokes are as funny.

    Ricky smashed it pointing out the hypocrisy of Hollywood. People in their ivory towers preaching to all who will listen. British humour is like no other and Ricky has no topic he will not go to. He is never racist or mocks those with disabilities, a fantastic comedian .

    Americans just don't get his humour sometimes. He's not mad he's just joking, it's his style of humour. British humour is totally different to American humour. I bet Tom Hanks had a speech prepared with that look on his face.

    I used to like Tom Hanks, but after watching his sour face through out Ricky's monologue, he clearly hasn't got a sense of humour, thumbs-up to Martin Scorses and Leonardo Dicaprio for going along with it 👍👍😜
