  • "Push Your Feelings Down" - Live at The Friars Club!
Written & performed by Marcus Goldhaber
I wrote this song simply out of my own need to laugh (and maybe because I didn't want to feel whatever I was feeling at that particular moment).

    When I am scared,
    Or feeling blue,
    I am prepared,
    I know what to do,
I say to myself, “Hi, Self, I see your emotions rising,”
But before they take hold, you better control them at every turn,
And so I offer a plan
    For anger and fear,
It even helps depression, shame and doubt disappear,
So if you’re tired of processing and want to be free,
Just simply take a deep breath and then repeat after me…
    Push your feelings down,
    Lock them up inside,
    Keep them underground,
    Then enjoy the ride…
    Each one has its place,
    No need to reveal,
Always keep a smile on your face,
    Even if it isn’t real.
    When I want to scream,
    Or cry all night long,
    Because of one broken dream,
    Or one broken song,
I remember that I’ve got a tool in my belt,
So that I don’t have to “heal” and I can feel what I felt,
Without this mess in my heart,
Though it all may be true,
I’m sure that there are triggers from my childhood too,
I can hear my journal saying, “let’s work this out,”
But that’s slippery slope and so I stand up and shout:
    Push your feelings down,
    Lock them up inside,
    Keep them underground,
    Then enjoy the ride…
    Each one has its place,
    No need to reveal,
Always keep a smile on your face,
    Even if it isn’t real.
    So anytime you “feel,”
    Don’t forget this rhyme,
Send each feeling straight to their room,
    Grounded for all time.
    Push your feelings down,
    Lock them up inside,
    Keep them underground,
    Then enjoy the ride…
    Each one has its place,
    No need to reveal,
Always keep a smile on your face,
    Even if it isn’t real.
