- Engine won't start? If nothing's broken then it can only be two things, gas or spark. My tractor fooled me for a bit. The magento coil died somewhat slowly and my machine was acting like it ran out of gas at first. Then it wouldn't start. Anyways, a weak spark in one cylinder and none in the other told the tale. Not hard to change out but you need to be careful about not pinching things.

I am doing mine now. So it looks like the coil has a top or bottom, that's what I needed to know. Thanks!
Thanks for this. I suspect it might be my problem. Suddenly lost spark.
Glad I could help! I bought my tractor for $150 about 10 years ago and all it's needed was a starter, coil and a battery. I love being able to keep old things running.
@@AndrewShackleton Nice buy, mine cost $500 quite recently. It mysteriously started again today, apparently the ignition coil can overheat and I'd been pushing hard for 2 hours.
@@chrissscottt I could see that happening. Luckily they aren't hard to work on. But I had a bad fuel line and that took me a bit to figure out. The pump draws vacuum and the line wasn't dripping yet. So I was sucking air into the carb. That stumped me for a few weeks. A new machine here is $2500 or so. I'll keep my old beast going as long as I can.
Where did you buy the new coil? Mine won’t spark.
Hi Angel, either Amazon or the dealership, I can't remember which.
@@AndrewShackleton It’s okay my lawnmower finally started. There was a loud boom and small fire but she finally ran. :)
