Well gangs as a whole started way back in the day when people were moving to the city and there was insufficient housing and employment, so they started doing crime to get by. Street gangs like Bloods and Crips I understand started as like a more active neighborhood watch to protect their neighborhood. So there's some of these reasons for why they're in it. But with apparently all the open jobs over the past few years, they could get a real job.

Of course! Keep in mind, though..these guys spend almost their whole life within the confines of their own neighborhood. They don't go to the beach, or Disneyland. Grandma's house is their soil. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I think it's rare for someone to pick up, and leave everything they know behind. The ones who do get out most likely have family out of state, and either offer a chance out, or an older brother, or cousin to come get them out forcibly.
