What's stunning to me is not how quickly you guys can come up with a song but how quickly you can *workshop* it. It's this constant back and forth between you and Andrew as you piece the thing together, half the time talking in shorthand. Brothers from another mother!
@@thegoodguy44 that's subjective the point isn't to make the greatest song possible but to make something listenable out of potentially the worst tuning ever

im just gonna come out and say it: they are on different levels musically. andrew is like autistically musical, while scallon has a gimmick he uses over and over again@@jonathanmellqvist2
I appreciate how you really leaned into this. (Way to really accept his offer!) You have real talent as a producer, Rob. All those choices you made, improved both the tracks immeasurably! I don’t think anyone could have seen where this track (or the other one was going), but you did! And your maturity in walking away from the other track, and letting Andrew create, was amazing! Love your content and energy!
I really like the synergy between you and Andrew, him coming from electronic synthesizers and you metal guitar and the such, it makes the whole exchange very interesting and funny to watch
Mailman had a fkn weird one and superunknown. Burden in my hand is some weird open tuning. Rusty cage is like the e string is tuned to B? Fuck knows what they used on my wave
It’s so great to see Rob just work things out on his head and say OK OK we’re gonna do it this way, genius at work also- BADGER BADGER MUSHROOM MUSHROOM
I really would love for my brain to work like Rob's. I don't think there's an instrument, weirdly tuned guitar or otherwise, that Rob couldn't play. He just perceives music in a way that most of us can't. He's like an X-Man of music.
This is awesome! I'm amazed at your ability to instantly play in an unusual tuning. Actually, that's one reason I study music theory myself: to eventually be able to play any guitar in any tuning with any number of strings. Thanks for the great content!
It’s fascinating to see Rob in music director mode. Andrew tends to be the person driving structure a lot of the time in their colons, so it’s really fun to see him doing it this time.
I love to play in open tunings. Not as weird as this obviously, but still quite different, like Bb Bb Db Gb Bb Db, or C F C F C F, or Db Ab Db Db Ab Db. You can make some really cool stuff out of wacky tunings sometimes.
I like open tuning that already make a full chord. But to be honest the standard tuning just brought down 3 or 4 half steps is cool. I even like going up a half step, so it's F standard. As if you have the cappo on the 1st fret but it's better in tune and you've got a couple more higher notes because there isn't a wasted fret.
They need to get Dorothea Taylor to do the drums for this. I love the idea of an all grandma's metal band playing music about staying warm outside. ruclips.net/video/6wkCsnFRuwg/видео.html
Episode idea. Rob should perform live with an improve jazz band on guitar. (Or maybe a blues band if jazz is too far out there for him). Rob seems to be pretty flexible, it would be fun to see him stretch his musical abilities to the limits in front of a jazz crowd.
Do y'all think you'll ever make some ""serious"" music together like no time crunch or challenge but just a true collaboration album or something would be sick
Hey hey, I posted this on Andrew's channel too... I love both of your channels independently and you two are supper rad together! Thanks for keeping music making fun. Love it! And super cool to have a production team to play with they're super cool too. You're all great! This makes me think of the video Andrew posted about branding and it's limitations. I love the metal guitars added too!!! Love to see you both trying lost of different things. Please keep it up.
Haha love that band don't think anyone here but you and me would know what your talking about tho, the atonal stuff does remind me alot of 90s underground rock like drive like jehu or slint
@@usualdosage7287bro Drive Like Jehu’s first album is one of the best post hardcore albums ever made. Absolutely wild that that was released in 1991. So ahead of its time.
Hey Rob, just wanted to tell you that you are a big inspiration! I bought my first guitar about a year ago (not yours sry, just got a cheap beginner model xP) and it's crazy how far I've already come in that short amount of time! Even make some of my own music now :) Well, just wanted to thank you for doing what you do
My favorite episode of: "Rob Tries To Go 5 Minutes Without Making Every Song Metal"
0-000-0-000-0-000-0-000
Challenge: G O D L Y
failed in 2 minutes
To be fair he was given a weird lower tuning that really would be weird in anything else
@@dude-guy69I could see someone like Björk using a tuning like that
I love that they counted method man twice without realizing it and deduced that there must have actually been 10 original wu tang members

That's insane musical chemistry. Band goals, honestly.

yeah dude... like retrospectively a lot of things makes sense...
The dynamic of this group always makes me smile. The amount of fun you all have makes the music pop.
Rob: Bass is important. A good bass line is what makes a good song great.
Also Rob: I don't have time, I'm just gonna do a simple bass line.
Hey, he had some sick slides in there
Sometimes simple IS good
And sometimes a simpler bassline is important rather than making it too busy
Relatable to the adhdstruggle is real
the story went like this:
"dude i have a cool synth the size of a room"
"you're now my best friend"
just seeing how robs mind is working through the entire process is so interesting and really shows his writing process which is so cool.
That clean riff sounds straight up Dillinger Escape Plan to me, and I am all for it.
Sounds like something off of one of us is the killer or one of the jazz breaks on calculating infinity
great taste man
Most guitar players would have folded at that tuning. Rob is a beast. I love this group's dynamic so much :)
the tuning is nice though, very dissonant and mysterious
It’s really pretty actually
Playing 1 chord only ? I'm no guitarist but I could at least shit out 2 😜

andrew: i won’t make it easy on you
rob: *NOT DIFFICULT ENOUGH*
I love how Andrew's just screaming the whole song through and then, at the end, he's just politely asking for a pair of mittens 🤣
"How would you describe Rob Scallon's writing process?"
"Very much so, yes."
That is the politest ending for such a brutal breakdown about protecting your neck in the winter

I love how the note at the end of the Sonic Boom jingle is played on the instrument that the episode is focused on, really neat

Rob and Andrew are a seriously entertaining duo.
Been following Rob for years and he still makes the coolest content ever... Thank you, you're awesome
Ngl that tuning is freaking awesome. Perfectly the style that I listen to lol. Just going through the notes sounds awesome
"I don't need any practice" the most bass player thing I've heard 😂😂😂
i'm not a regular viewer but the chemistry that ya'll share through this is hype
looking for more
Have you watched the First of October stuff
Rob writing songs in the same chaotic way as I do, is so inspirational
"It's not a tuning anyone else has ever used."
I'm sure Soundgarden did it sometime. They had THEE craziest tunings I've ever seen.

Coolest tunning ever ngl there should be a band using this tunning as a charasteristic sound
Didn't think it'd turn into a badass hardcore song at the end lmao Vocals give me a very light Every Time I Die vibe.
