Thank you Gripset for the very informative video. I have been renovating bathrooms in the last 25 years, some bathroom (built in 1990s) we removed have yellow tongue but it is in good condition if the yellow tongue and waterproofing was installed correctly. I always debate whether to leave the yellow tongue or advise the owner to replace it with scyon (with additional cost). I have been googling to find a suitable answer to advise my customers about yellow tongue but haven't been able to find the right answer as some site says it is illegal and some site says it is ok to use but not recommended. Thanks to your video and your answered comment (from other video) I have found the right advice to give to my customers.
G,day Mate, Ive just purchased a new house which has yellow tongue floor boards. Is it recommended to paint or water proof the under floor area to reduce water ingress from underneath.??? (Large task) Is this something you would recommend??? Mick
Hi Mick, look we wouldn't recommend it however, you are best to contact the yellow tongue manufacturer to confirm the product is suitable for use over earth. It may be found in an installation guide somewhere. Hope this can help you!
maybe a stupid question, i’m 17 and don’t know much about this lol, but i’m just looking for low priced wood that’s just decent enough to stay outside year round, is this wood usable for the WALLS? or just floor?
@@jnun3782 not a stupid question at all! we recommend contacting you local lumber supplier, they may recommend a suitable product to use and expectable protective coating , we'd love to be more specific but we're Australia! Thanks for watching!
What about yellowtongue then apply waterproofing then screed then apply waterproofing again then tile? Or do you recommend laying FC sheeting on top of the yellowtongue flooring then apply waterproofing on the fc sheet then screed then tile?
Hi RP, the best way to tackle a yellow tongue situation is with Gripset XpressLay: gripset.com/products/gripset-xpresslay/ Its your ceramic tile Underlay and waterproofing in one, once applied you can screed and tile. hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Thank You for Providing Education to the Construction Industry & the Public. We would sheet every timber type flooring with a Fibre Sheet Underlay for Wet Area's. We can then provide a Waterproofing system over that F/C sheeting. We will sheet Timber type flooring for Vinyl Installation as these products are not suitable for Direct Stick / Adhesive Fixed Flooring & move alot as You have said. #doitcorrectlydoitonce
Hello :) I've been working on redoing the flooring in my kids' bathroom - after removing the sheet of linoleum, i discovered we had particleboard :( I'm really unsure why this was chosen, i can see a secondary layer underneath the particleboard (it is OSB i believe, at least it appears to be).. one of the main reasons i started this project is because thanks to my kids splashing, over time water seeped through the linoleum where the tub and flooring meet, so the particleboard is weak in that area... But it's only about an inch of the flooring, along the length of the bathtub. What should I do in this situation?! I was thinking to fill the weakend spots with concrete maybe, then go over the entire subfloor with something like Drylok (or what is the best type of product to waterproof this?) I am so unsure what to do in this situation :( that's how I ended up here! Haha
Hi Seraphina, kids are great at uncovering poor waterproofing!😅 The best advice we can offer is to engage a licenced professional to inspect the area, once water damage takes hold it is critical to understand the extent of the damage. For Gripset product recommendations please send some photos through to info@gripset.com and one of the techs will take a look, Thanks for watching!
Hi Amie, whilst this is not our field of expertise, consider studding it out and putting some gyprock over the top. Refer to the plasterboard manufacturer installations details. Thanks for watching :)
hi i hope you can help?! we used yellow tongue for the sub floor then put a steel frame house on top, now the roof did not go on for a long time and the weather has caused swelling! since putting the roof on we have sanded the raised areas over the joins but there is all uneven 3mm gaps throughout what can we use to make this a flat surface for cement sheeting then tiling to go down? thanks kirsty
Hi Kirsty, apologies for missing your comment if your ever after prompt technical advice fell free to contact us on 1800 650 435 we're happy to assist with ant technical enquiry, hope the rest of your construction went smoothly, Thank you
Hi Ed, the main difference is marine grade plywood is used externally but we would treat it the same way as particle board. We recommend Gripset sheet membrane systems. gripset.com/products/#sheet-membrane please have a look at the sheet membranes on this website
Hi RUclipsShitSorter, 😂 that was fun to type! but to answer your question; typically timber products with laminated finish are not designed to be finished over, they are the finish. If you have more details on the product in question and require a solution for what sounds like a unique situation please send us an email to info@gripset.com one of our knowledgeable tech services staff will get back to you, Thanks for watching!
Hi Abdul, As long as construction method is inline with relevant building codes you can treat it the same as timber frame, if timber structural board is used as flooring system, Gripset recommends Gripset BRW or Gripset GC Sheet membranes you can check them out at gripset.com/
Very good unbiased report

i live in california where it doesn’t rain too much, but it can get hot outside, would a coating of paint or something be good enough?

It's still considered a timber type flooring. You have a Water resistant coating applied so How are You going to bond to it correctly?
How to seal the seams in particle board laminate flooring?
