    I love Judge Milian. She doesn't take crap from anyone. When you're in her courtroom, you're in HER courtroom, and if you don't know that when you walk in, you sure as heck know it when you walk out.

    He's got a point with the honey comment, if he called her sweetheart she'd be furious. I've seen women call each other "honey" and "sweetheart" to each other and go through the roof over it. He's right when he calls for mutual respect, but it's precisely what she doesn't want to hear about since she's tryna highlight that she's overpowering him by disrespecting him on purpose. She wants to appear dominant to the audience, then tries to humiliate him for refusing to submit because she doesn't want the balance of power to look symmetrical. That's why she makes the escalation so disproportionate so quick : she systematically over-reacts to any proportionate response on his part. Has to make her new strike look stronger than his previous response every time, which inevitably hightens to a roof of intensity if the other person keeps responding symmetrically instead of submissively giving up some room.

      You may think so but he's respectfully going against being addressed condescendingly, and he then is biased against when Judge implies he's screwing the other person over, so he doesn't like that, nor should he. And Judge is merely making a point to not interrupt her or tell her what to do in her court, she is supposed to be the one in control, but she does so arrogantly. What may appear as egos, could just be poor communication due to trying to support what one expects and feels. One may never know truly what ones emotions are supporting.

    • @Tantamani

      @@alwaysbeeurself I never stated his behavior was inappropriate when he called her out on her faux pas, nor hers for stopping him from interrupting her. The word “honey” was inappropriate. However, when he said “Watch yourself “ that was definitely out of line and offensive regardless of whether he felt it was biased. At that moment it appears she was delivering her verdict, and one of the rules in a courtroom is no one is to speak when a judge is delivering the verdict unless instructed by the judge to do so. So for McCaffrey to blurt that out while she’s speaking to the plaintiff and not to him makes me believe he did it intentionally to get back at her because the outcome wasn’t in his favor, in addition to the fact when he called her out the first time and wasn’t reprimanded nor penalized for it he felt at liberty to do so again but with less composure.

His statement “respect is something you’re born with” was not only rude, but inaccurate. Respect is when you show deep admiration of others due to their qualities. If that doctor had any respect (or at least common sense), he would NOT correct a judge on any mistake. Your mindset may be fair, but if you dared to correct a judge, they would not respect you and immediately dismiss your case.

You don't flaunt your power around and assuming a person's character by their good works is nothings special. No special considerations have to be made. A person can follow the law and be a good citizen, but a bad person in their virtues and reasonings. We don't know based on what we see or hear. The world is really hurting. Can we respect a poor beggar if they have good character? Can they hold onto strong virtues when delt such a crappy hand. If we want people to become better people, we first must become better ourselves. Our moral obligation to society is to be the best version of ourselves. Again, there were NO special considerations..no understanding. Timothy Devolld I can see why one may think I was in total favor of Judge Marilyn in my previous comment, but that wasn't the point I was making. All she did was just call him "honey." And she didn't say it because she has the authority to. From the way it seems, it was just a spur of the moment when she was putting her attention on the documents, rather than her choice of words. If I were in that doctor's place, and she called me "honey" just that one time, maybe it would've rubbed me the wrong way a bit, but to correct her right then and there was just uncalled for. I would have just let it go.
      Now, if a judge were to look right at me and call me "honey" in a condescending tone, and they did it multiple times, I still would hold my tongue, wait until the trial session was over, and then write said judge a letter, implying that they need to address everyone by Mr/Mrs/Ms Surname.
      You are right that everyone needs to better themselves if we expect everyone else to be better. That's what I meant by the definition of respect. If we want to be respected, we need to be respectful. If we want to be loved, we need to be loving. If we want others to show kindness, we need to be kind. There's a reason why this principle is called the Golden Rule.

    This “judge” has way to much ego. He had every right to not want to be referred to as “honey”. She clearly was on a power trip, and the physical threat was uncalled for as well (notice the bailiff didn’t touch him). Sounds like she has a problem with powerful men. And screw everyone in that court for laughing and jimmy Kimmel for trying to poke fun at the man refusing to be belittled…

      @christian Williams What she needed to do was not address him as Honey in the first place. I don't deny that the guy was a egotistical, elitist prick but he had a point. This was for all intents and purposes meant to be a courtroom therefore there's meant to be a certain level of protocol when a judge deals with anyone regardless of any social standing. Judges are always going about respecting court procedure, the courtroom and themselves. However respect cuts both ways and in their position of authority they're supposed to set an example.
      After all he did address her as your honor throughout the clips seen here so it wasn't as if he wasn't following protocol to some degree. All she had to do was say fair enough, you have a point and then at the very least addressed him as sir for the purpose of being professional. It didn't mean she had to go any easier on him and still ruled in favor of the other gentleman. However she didn't do that. She behaved like an immature sexist bully. Imagine if that was a male judge who spoke to a woman using the term. Women, and I like to think most men as well would be up in arms about it and quite rightfully so. This is supposed to be the age of equality and any condescending behavior by a a man or woman in addressing someone of the opposite sex should not be excused. It's not just a one way street here.

    • @robertmcelwaine7024
      @robertmcelwaine7024 4 года назад +4

      @christian Williams Actually, she interrupted him first when he was attempting to explain something. Go to where he proceeds to say, "on a pure level..." and you'll see that she cut him off right there. And even if she is right in terms of the legality (which I'm not going to dispute) that is still no excuse and is besides the point.
      This is a court of law which is supposed to be a solemn institution which is to be treated with respect not only by the defendant, plaintiff etc. but the Judge as well. It's not a school playground where you would expect such childish behavior. It undermines the integrity of the courtroom and as a representative of the law she above anyone else present should have known better. He still consistently addressed as her as your honor. She at the very least could have given him that much credit all be it minimal and afforded him a similar courtesy. Hell, even Judge Judy as far as I've been aware from watching her TV series as always addressed people by a respectful title, and I'm not exactly one of her biggest fans but I'll give her that.

    • @robertmcelwaine7024
      @robertmcelwaine7024 4 года назад +4

      @christian Williams Again though, true or not. That is besides the point and you've ignored the one I made in regards to it. He addressed her as your honor throughout proceedings and it's not as if he complained about her interrupting him anyway. Therefore it's a moot point.
      What he objected to was being addressed as Honey which he had every right to call her out on That's what this is essentially all about. Not the legality of what her ruling would have been, not that she interrupted him but the fact that she addressed him in an inappropriate manner that could be deemed as sexist. Again, and I'm repeating myself once more to make sure you're receiving this loud and clear. Had any male judge addressed a female plaintiff, defendant or attorney in such a way then there would have been justifiable complaints about in television and social media. However, Millian does it and barely anyone blinks an eye. That's what is known as a sexist double standard and not only that, it undermines the integrity and credulity of the courtroom.
      She's supposed to set an example on how people are to conduct themselves in that environment. She wouldn't expect anyone to address her in that manner, and because she just happens to supposedly be a great judge and has worked hard to get where she is doesn't automatically give her the right to disrespect anyone else. Especially when they were affording her the courtesy that they only expected in return. The man was a pompous, elitist ass but I'm willing to give him that much credit. Hell, you wouldn't even expect the President of the United States to disrespect or talk down to a female representative from a foreign nation or a member of his staff that was a subordinate so why should she be let away with it?

    • @robertmcelwaine7024
      @robertmcelwaine7024 4 года назад +2

      @christian Williams Yes, he interrupted her and that was wrong but again, that's besides the point. Like I already pointed out as well, he never even complained about her interrupting him. She could have still admonished him for what he did and not addressed him as Honey. He did after all still address her as your honor throughout proceedings so displayed a modicum of professional protocol despite his error. Milian is a judge and is supposed to set an example in how you conduct yourself in court. This isn't a matter of do as I say but don't do as I do. She could have merely said, "excuse me sir, I'm conducting these proceedings" and that would have been that. Let's also not forget that she is more experienced and familiar with court procedure as someone who is works within the legal system. He isn't. In short, you're talking nonsense.

    • @robertmcelwaine7024
      @robertmcelwaine7024 4 года назад +2

      @christian Williams Slip up or not she could have still retracted the statement. And it doesn't matter if the word, Honey is a vulgarity or not. It's no way for anyone to be addressing anyone in a court of law. One minute you're saying that you concede that she was wrong for using the term, Honey and now defending it saying she can do so at her discretion outside the scope of her authority. Which is it going to be because you're contradicting yourself here. A person in her profession has authority but within reason. It's not as if they're above scrutiny and aren't answerable for their actions like anyone else. Exerting her authority really isn't the issue here so much as how she conducts herself when doing so. There's a way you go about doing it which which still retains the integrity of the courtroom. Just because he was or wasn't being an arrogant jerk doesn't mean she has to proceed to stoop to his level.

    No, she did not call him a jerk. She was solely addressing the plaintiff about how he was expecting financial security and she said, "but instead you gotta jerk around with this for another year." The "THIS" referred to the nonsense the plaintiff had to go through due to the defendant's actions. The defendant then threatened the judge and she rightfully threw him out. That's exactly what would happen if you threatened the judge in a real small claims courtroom, too.

      It's a binding but not legal arbitration. If it was legal, she could fine him, the loser could appeal, etc. I'm not on anybody's "side" but I honestly don't think he was in the wrong here. She cannot keep things casual and expect others to act professionally. She's arrogant and I'm actually glad somebody put her in her place. Her only course of action is to have someone make him leave the room.

    • @NubianP6
      @NubianP6 6 лет назад

      Matthew Davis I have actually seen fines levied during televised arbitration back when Judge Joe Brown was still on television. He fined people constantly for what he perceived as “insubordination”, though in all likelihood, it was actually more of a reduction of their appearance fee than an actual fine.
      As for having the right to appeal, that is in effect the reason why one agrees to “binding” arbitration, otherwise, these cases could potentially ping pong back-and-forth indefinitely. Yes, I definitely agree that she should not have addressed him in the manner that she did. Just as someone else said, had he addressed HER as honey, she would definitely have corrected him in no uncertain terms, and she owes the litigants the same level of respect, if only by virtue of being civilized.
