    Refreshing interpretation that is close to the intention of Liszt. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

    You've done two things that are so important:
    1. Closely read the score.
    2. Listened to performances by those pianists closest to the composer.
    Keep looking for a copy of the manuscript.
    Marvelous performance, occasionally (and appropriately) surprising. Thank you.

    I was extremely skeptical at the beginning of the explanation. Classical musicians are always trying to hunt down some revisionist interpretation to make their playing unique. But I had to admit that much of Kit's explanations not only made sense but were congruent with the general style of the playing of such great players as Edwin Fischer (who is kind of a "grand-teacher" to Kit. When I listened to the performance, I was completely convinced. Excellent pedal control of course is required, and Kit certainly provided that!!! Liszt, of course, was not a vulgar showoff bt one of the greatest musical minds that Europe ever produced. Even in his virtuoso works there is always a musical mind strongly at work. Magnificent!!!!!

    A fabulous performance accompanied with a lovely reminder of the importance of paying attention to detail. As my good friend Artur Cimirro said, Liszt (and all other musicians) took the time to write out all of these textural indications. I can’t imagine he wrote all of this just for it to be ignored!!

    I wonder what animation Disney around the early days would have made of this, since it lends itself to visual story telling. Wonderful

    Sehr überzeugende Interpretation, die wohltuend von dem mehr oder weniger einförmigen Tempo anderer Pianist/inn/en abweicht!

    Thank you for your insight. Just one observation: you need to be careful about EMB's presentation. All italic indications are by editors. I'd recommend the Henle edition for this work.

    Génial ce format! Passionnant pour un amateur de voir l’analyse d’une pianiste accompli. Et puis sortir de l’enregistrement typique devenu un standard voir un carcan c’est ça l’interprétation. Bref merci!

    Well done Mr. Armstrong, and best wishes from Canada.

    Almost another piece played like this according to the printed score. I just wonder if there is an autograph and if so, is it indentical with the printed score? Or was the printed score approved of by Liszt? I admire your playing enormously.

      That is an interesting and important question, indeed. I admit I have not researched it, as this is a piece of a kind I never play in my "official" work. I would love to have a facsimile of the manuscript.

    Wow, it sounds beautiful with his interpretation. I only ever heard the ultra fast dry (no pedal) recording and I didn't enjoy it.

    welch ein Feuerwerk... ein Neuronenfeuerwerk.
    Velocissimo: mit dem Velo 15% Gefälle ohne Bremse
    (+_+)
    Klavierspielen ist doch weniger gefährlich, aber kann genauso atemberaubend sein.

    Kit, you might find the following approach to musical performance research somewhat interesting in light of your experiment:
    challengingperformance.com/interviews-recordings/mine-dog%CC%86antan-dack/
    Perhaps you might be aware, but there is a reasonably new, burgeoning field in musicology examining and researching what performers do (or at least aim to), reevaluating traditional notions of scores, composers and the concept of 'fidelity'.

    • @kitcarmstrong
      @kitcarmstrong  4 года назад +2

      That is indeed very interesting. It will be one of my objectives to study that from an analytical perspective, to complement the musicological perspective.

    ??--1)Je n'ai pas très bien compris l'usage de la pėdale de nos jours (environ de --4:42-- à --5:06--). Pouvez-vous m'ėclairer ?? Comment doit-on faire??-- 2) Aux transitions, doit-on ralentir et decresc ??? MERCI D'AVANCE, je m'excuse de vous importuner.Je suis en admiration devant votre savoir. BRAVO.

    • @kitcarmstrong
      @kitcarmstrong  4 года назад +2

      En ce qui concerne les transitions, je ne veux rien dire de normatif. Mon intention ici ayant été de réaliser à la lettre ces indications-là dans la partition, tout en évoquant des effets que je jugeais importants, il y avait lieu de ni ralentir ni diminuer.

    • @bernadettesayer7873
      @bernadettesayer7873 4 года назад +2

      Bonsoir Kit, MERCI pour votre réponse. Donc, il faut relativiser les indications de la partition: PRODUIRE DES EFFETS, sans modifier le rythme ni la sonorité. VOUS Y PARVENEZ TRÈS BIEN. Votre interprétations est MERVEILLEUSEMENT PRÉSENTE. BRAVO, MERCI.

    This is not nearly as good as the one
    he recorded at age 8 that has vanished
    from RUclips. This one is pedestrian,
    soft and mushy. One deos not hear
    any drive or fun or enjoyment. And
    it is metronomic and mechanical
    to a fault. Sorry Kit, you lost it!

    • @Varooooooom

      Preferring a childish interpretation over an academic one is more of a you-problem than it is a Kit-problem.
