Great season battle between Roberts and Spencer. Always a massive fan of the King but you have to give credit to Freddie Spencer for the way he took the title on a bike that had only been introduced and developed the season before and was he still learning the tracks. In 1985 Spencer proved he was a class act when he won the double in 250 and 500 classes, riding twice in a day. Even Rossi has not done that.
The Yamaha V4 had the same development time as the Honda V3. Both introduced in 1982. The missing cylinder meant the Honda 3 would always be a transitory bike.
But Rossi did became World Champion in every class possible, 9 wins in total and a racing carreer that lasted 26 years. Something that Fast Freddie Spencer never achieved.
Yes Murray Walker doing the commentary, Murray is more a motorcycle man than F1 man. His father Graham Walker was a TT motorcyle racer and winner there. His father was also a commentator for the BBC doing motor sports events etc.
Lo saloei you find all the classic 500cc stuff lol! Stready Eddie was a fearsome competitor who took on the might of Honda in the US and then in the GPs, and beat them. I bet Mr Honda had bad dreams about Eddie... He even poached Freddie's legendary engineer Erv for his last title in '89, so not the most spectacular to look at maybe, but a winner that would go head to head with anyone. This is very rare footage, had not seen this before, many thanks to uploader.
Hockenheim became known as ThE "Honda,s curse"....ThE GP took place every 2 years there, alternating w. Nurburgring. In 83, Spencer was leading when this happened. In 85, Spencer was Also leading when he had a tyre failure And was caught by Sarron (Who was awesome in ThE rain that day---the greatest standing ovation from ThE motodrom ever) In 87, Gardner was Also leading when Another mechanical failure occurred In 89, Lawson lost ThE race on board ThE Kanemoto NSR to Rainey in ThE motodrom In 91, something i dont remember prevented Doohan from winning, when he was fighting Kevin And Wayne but he seemed to be in control of ThE race. 5 almost sure wins which fell through by ThE Curse
In my opinion “Lucky” should have stayed a couple of seasons more with Team Gallina, but obviously a truckload of dollars from Team Honda is hard to resist.
@@Tractorboy_19 It does say 1983 in the title. Thanks for the info though. I have been a Barry Sheene fan all of my life but, was totally unaware of this.

ThE First time I read ThE top speeds, It was 307 in 1991, Doohan, more or less 165-170 HP. Reckon 290 kmh in 1983, pure estimation, of course I do remember Spencer in Paul Ricard 1984 doing 304 kmh.. Not sure how to direct message you, but wanted to say thanks. I just subscribed, you've got some amazing content. Thank you so much for sharing it! Not to add to your work load, but I'd love to be able to see your actual full race vintage motogp stuff in one group. Not sure how that is done, but if I can figure it out, I'm sure I'll pick through it over time, and try to help. Also, if you don't have it, I've got this in good quality I can share with you via google drive. (MotoGp.1982. British GP.500cc.ESPN.divx.English.divx) Not much point in my uploading it, as I've not got many followers. (I may be able to get some others, but will have to poke around and see what I can find if you're interested.) If you know how to direct message me not public, I'll give you my email address. Thanks for all the great content and work it takes to get it up there!

The good old days of old Hockenheim. What a shame they destroyed the part through the Woods.
yeah that b4stard hermann tilke destroyed all the great circuits
oh yeah and i also like your website, very interesting
Thanks. I recentely visited the old part of Hockenheim. Soon you will see footage of the current state of the Ostkurve...
Sad indeed.
Circuits of the past And still the track is good. Guess you cannot really kill awesomeness
What happened to Spenser's lead? we miss from lap 7 to 13 where he dropped from leading?
Somewhere between. Engine failure

1983年のGP500が忘れられない!ケニーとフレディのバトルをその時代で生きてきたのは、貴重な体験でした。この年にケニーは引退した。ケニー1951/12/31生まれ、自分1961/12/31生まれ今でもケニー信者です。
Great race!!!
the great hokenheim circuit before they ruined it for F1
the epic Ostkurve.........one of the best and quickest corners ever.........
Bring back the 2 Strokes.
Impossible, My friend. I liked 2S, but i Also enjoy 4s norwadays
Bring back Barry Sheene!
The old Hockenheim, before it got destroyed.
I almost forgot what a real "full grid" looked like, ah the good old days...
Ron Haslem must be Britain's best all time rider ! there isn't much he hasn't done in road racing
win a world championship????
Yeah, he is a national hero. If you check his credentials are very impressive. Many wins in many classes of racing (other than GPs of course).
I'm pretty sure Mike the Bike and Barry might have something to say about that. Not to mention John Surtees.
Maybe the road racer who has done most different classes, but best? 🤔
Lucchinelli great style and rider good race , the best years.

Gnarly... Ostkurve without the Mickey Mouse chicane installed for F1 in 1982.
Actually, all bike races used the original Ostkurve until the track was redesigned in 2002.
Bikes didn't need a chicane there, because the speeds were lower
Gotta love Murray Walker 'four laps full of its short distance' (the first time, he got it right at the end)
He was so annoying.
