I think it is very realistic looking. I have seen bulldozer blades at construction sites and the blades have had clean metal and a mixture of soil on them like the one you painted. If you made any mistakes I sure couldn't find them. Thanks for sharing this.
A tip for fixing pigments with a delicate touch is to try using a small misting pump bottle, and airbrush flow improver such as vallejo brand. The flow improver should mist out of the pump in an extremely fine cloud and not disturb the pigments. It should run between the pigments well and set them.
This is legit dude, now to find a misting bottle, I'm going to try this out, imagine it'd dry faster, too!
@@ArtisOpus I found that Iso alcohol works well, keeps the original colour and texture of the pigment. I found iso alcohol in a misting bottle at a local pharmacy

When using pigments, I like to mix them with acrylic matte medium into a slurry and apply them to the model wet. I find them to be a bit easier to position this way and you then don't need to use the fixer as the matte medium does the job when it dries. Excellent job on the model, it turned out great.

@@ArtisOpus I'll defo keep watching. Like, I suspect, many people I've had it drummed into me dry brushing is a technique to evolve past as your skill improves and your tutorials have totally refuted that viewpoint. I'm practicing the skills you show continually now :)
more of these please. we all know painting our plastic overlords uses many many products and techniques to get the image in our mind down onto the models. seeing this presentation of various techniques in one video and following it through with mistakes and a little panic is real for us all. keep making more like this please.
Oh yes, now I'm itching to get cracking on ideas I have for post-apocalyptic 'zombie killer' tanks with dozers and such.
As a user of AK (and AMMO) 'magic potions' on my military models, I recommend leaving your streaking and rust effects to dry for a few minutes before refining them - a/ it is a less messy / less liquid process, b/ you get very realistic defined central streaks that feather, fade and stain nicely towards their wiped/blended edges, rather than general vertical smears - getting that fine scale streaking is much easier as a result because you're not trying to modify them wet on wet.

I've watched a number of your videos, and have learned that 2 things determine the outcome that looks so good.
Technique and layers, more than anything like color selection or model choice, seem to let you achieve the look here.
And using the techniques you demonstrate allow the painter to quickly get excellent results.

You absolutely do dude, just 3 or 4 of them goes such a long way!
spray everything gray, Edges = stiffeling doombull brown, center = flash gitz yellow, mix in a little screaming skull and pass over center again, varnish the whole thing, masking tape (6mm) use scalpel, black (90° on masking tape area), remove masking tape. Awesome vid thanks

For a first attempt, that looks amazing mate! A couple of quick points about the enamel washes, the hairspray technique will work with those too, and you can make really cool streaking effects that way, also, you might find that they blend out a little easier if you work in small areas and brush a tiny amount of thinners on first, then put the washes on top, then blend them, they shouldn't bleed too much if there is only a small amount of thinners there! Finally, I would just dab a tiny bit of wash into panel lines and onto raised stuff like rivets too, enamel washes will flow round them and really make them pop!

AK's effects line is great for doing a grimdark type feel for 40k. I use a lot of streaking grime, slimy grime ( I believe that is what it's called ) and a couple various pigments to add effects to my Death Guard. The overall look is a really dark and worn out feel to the armor and matches really well to how their lore is. A few light glazes with an airbrush adds great effects to eyes and plasma glow for a easy OSL effect. So the armor has that worn effect with a soft red glow for a more haunting look once done.
@@tinkertoiler744 For sure, if people take the time to experiment with different techniques and types of paints the experience is much more fun and valuable. I mainly use oil for washes and shadows on troops and different textures for larger pieces.

Excellent video again guys. I weathered my first model the other day which I shared on my Instagram and discord and it seems to have gone down really well. I only did a bit but this n has driven me to do a bit more.
My girlfriend also watched this and she has become a dry brush ninja, wish I could show you here second model ever....it is amazing, but she thinks it is terrible...as we all do about our own work.

Artis Opus well I've ordered some tamiya masking tape so that's a start. Thanks for that tip bye the way because in the past I've tried low tac masking tape and it just pulled up some paint, will seal it first too
Great video and nice techniques. One thing I’d recommend trying is turning off the auto focus because it tends to zoom in an out and can get quite annoying imo. Just being picky though haha.
Cheers dude, the issue then is that I can't move things around if we set it to a specific point, and I'm not very good at that! You'll notice a lot of the people with set focus keep things very static, drybrushing is a particularly physical technique, which makes it harder.
We're constantly looking into this stuff, and also discussing some new kit to try and remedy the issue :)

Try removing a little more paint, and also not having your brush too damp, it's a fine balance but once you've got it you're golden :)

Cool experimentation! I would suggest not wiping the enamel based products and odourless thinners on the skin. those are petroleum based products. I wear a nitrile glove when using them. One question. the varnish shown,. is it an acrylic varnish?
Hi Geoff, thanks for the tip! I'm unsure tbh, it doesn't wash off easily, and goes on smoothly, it definitely feels like it gets a very strong bond, it probably offers more protection than airbrushed varnish, but *will* go on thicker, which can be a downside for sure. :)

Hi Luke, fantastic! We've actually got some Eldar vehicles prepped... just need a suitably funky scheme to do them justice :).
They do a little, you may notice some of my brushes have had their handle tips dipped in black - they're the ones I (am meant to) reserve for metallics, it just helps cross contamination, which is more of an issue than the maintenence. - Silver - black is particularly noticeable!

Thanks for the great video, looking forward to trying this on some vehicles! A question - I've been doing some Iron Warriors recently, and have been masking shoulder pads etc and brush painting the black over the top. I've been finding that I have quite a noticeable raised edge between the black and yellow of the stripes - would the stippling method give me a smoother finish do you think? Cheers
Hi Rich, it could just be that it is more noticeable at a smaller scale, are you stippling the darker or lighter colour? Darker takes less layers so is easy to do thinner.
You can also varnish the entire thing after and that'd smoothen it out a little :)

Why do you wash the rust off bottom to top instead of top to bottom if you're trying to emulate rain streaks?
Hi Dean, because at this scale it looks more realistic, you want it like the rust has worked it's way down over time, in nature it appears and streaks down, here we cover it and remove it 'up' - hope that makes sense!

Having never used the AK weathering paints ... what is the difference between them and watered down paints? Crusted Rust looks very much like GW Skrag Brown.
The AK Interactive paints he is using are enamel paints that have an oil base. GW Skrag Brown is a water based acrylic paint. The advantage in using the enamel product is that it can be removed by using enamel thinner after the paint has dried. Those of us who are scale modelers know this technique well.

Hmm I'd paint the Dozer Blade the same on every tank but maybe dark metallics around the rim would contrast more nicely with red blood angles tanks😊 Hope my suggestion was useful
Artis Opus I was more thinking about the colours you would use to paint the blood angels scheme on tanks. The dozer blade will be my preferred method going forward

Hi!! I liket it a lot. But may be black stripes with chipping affects was a better final results. And the ordre of pigments was wrong. Always firts apply the dry mud amb wet mud finaly. It is more realistic. Make more videos with multiple tecniques (dry brush, enamels, chipping, pigments, etc) please!!

Im trying your techniques out and somehow I think I’m using too much colour. My stippling is creating actual structure. But I won’t give up.
Hey dude, you need to remove more paint by the sounds of things, start slow and careful, you can even thin the paint a little, even if your first few layers seem a little transparent and take a bit more time.
There are also some paints that just don't play nice (I had to strip and begin again with our space wolf vehicle... it happens!).

I don't believe I need to pay your 20% VAT as I'm in Australia. It adds $30 to my order which makes my questionable $100 purchase to a rediculous total for a few brushes in a nice case.

OMG Dont put enamel paints and spirits on your skin!!! What is wrong with you? I seriously hope you didnt lick a brush with enamel paint on it. On top of that young children could be watching your videos, give a good example.
