I hiked it in 2014 when I was only 72, and again when I was 78. Now that I'm all grown up (81), I'm planning a return late next spring. The uphill hike is just an enjoyable slog, physically and mentally. It's not an easy climb, but it's not really difficult either. I took 3 hours going up. Frequent breaks to enjoy the changing views and the beauty of the terrain. The ridge where the old trees are is spectacular as is the view in ALL directions from the summit. It's a beautiful hike, uncrowded during the week. The return trip isn't near as fun. I find downhills to be far more difficult than uphills and coming back it's all downhill! My back and legs were screaming by the time I got back to the parking lot all because of the downhill. I could barely climb up into the cab of my truck. I'm not a hardcore hiker, and don't take on anything really challenging because a fall at my age is more serious than the same fall for someone younger. I always use hiking poles for added safety. I hike about 12 miles a week in hilly desert terrain (Inland Empire). I say this to encourage others. Mt B-P is very doable for anyone in decent condition. You don't need to be a mountain goat to handle it. Endurance is more important than anything else on that hike.
Just got home from hiking the Wave, Angels Landing, the Watchman, Zion Canyon Overlook, The Grotto, Zion Narrows and Valley of Fire. It was an epic 4 day trip with perfect weather and no crowds. Thanks for the inspiration.
Nice job! As always I ask was the Angel scary? It scares me. I sat at Scour Lookout 👀 for 30 minutes, and then continued up West Rim Trail. It was awesome.
Tried it today...I'm 60...KICKED MY BUTT I turned around 13 minutes before summit...could not go any further...my legs were like noodles...I LOVED IT!!! WILL TRY AGAIN😂
I used to do a LOT of hiking in the Angeles Crest when I lived near LAX. I hiked Baden Powel in late 70s/early 80s...probably 1978 in the spring/summer between high school and college. IIRC, I started at Islip Saddle so it was a longer hike, but a more gradual climb. In those days, our shorts were shorter and I remember a killer sunburn on my legs from that hike. Ha! I'd love to get up there again! I am glad your heart didn't explode in your chest. As an older hiker/local hill walker, I know the feeling.
With the aid of your hiking guide and video, I hiked BP twice, once in November and again, last week. It is a breathtaking hike- in all senses of the word, and my new favorite. Thanks for the invaluable resources you provide. I especially appreciate the link to mountain weather.
Great video as always! This is one of my favorite hikes. I think I am on nine or 10 times now the first time I did it I was a Boy Scout. My troop went up and we recited the oath and law around the monument. It was a memory I will never forget.
What a great video. Last year I tried to hike this trail in October but the area had an early season snowstorm. I finally got to hike the trail this year in September and it was great. As you mentioned it's a long, steady climb and not a heart busting hike. Now the video you posted regarding Mugu Peak, that's a heart buster.
Looks like a great hike! I appreciate that you're encouraging people to pay attention to the trees. What is the winter looking like up there right now? Thanks for a great hike!
Thank you for the information and guidance! I am not planning to hike all the way up to Mt Baden Powell .. I want to go to Vincent Gap to explore snow and tubing with kids .. will there be any chance of seeing snow if I visit the place sometimes this week?
Prob not enough snow to tube but enough to launch a few snowballs - here''s the sat photos from Jan 13 - dataspace.copernicus.eu/browser/?zoom=16&lat=34.37337&lng=-117.7522&themeId=DEFAULT-THEME&visualizationUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fsh.dataspace.copernicus.eu%2Fogc%2Fwms%2Fa91f72b5-f393-4320-bc0f-990129bd9e63&datasetId=S2_L2A_CDAS&fromTime=2024-01-13T00%3A00%3A00.000Z&toTime=2024-01-13T23%3A59%3A59.999Z&layerId=1_TRUE_COLOR&demSource3D=%22MAPZEN%22&cloudCoverage=30&dateMode=SINGLE
I am glad your heart didn't explode in your chest! Is this a problem you need to be worried about? A good doctor and some mad science can re-enforce that heart of yours. (just joking BTW)
*_Hello... if I'm not mistaken, the name Baden Powell is the name of the originator of scouting activities, yes, and apparently it is immortalized with the name of a mountain? Greetings from Indonesia....._* 👣⛰👍🤝🙏💯

I hiked at age 70, 75 and plan to hike in 2025 when I'm 80.

Another great video HG. This is definitely my favorite SoCal hike, I'll be doing it again next week. Keep up the good work!
Just hiked Baden Powell Last weekend! It was very cold about 35 and very strong wind up top which made it rough but very fun pretty trail.
Strange seeing that summit w/o a ton of other hikers. Even 20+ years ago, there were so many up there (on weekends).

I hiked Baden Powell a few weeks ago 🤩 beautiful hike … The Views at top are beautiful 🤩
Thanks for your hiking guides. Made it about 60% of the way up. Not ready yet, going to keep getting in shape. Next year!
It can get cold and windy at the summit. Your day looked a bit calm.
What a beautiful hike on a beautiful day. Thank you so much

That's awesome, what a great spot to have a Boy Scout ceremony.

Done it and I enjoyed 🍀🍀🍀💗

It was good but guessing it's getting clobbered with this storm today.
The best hike there. Period. Go there the Punchbowl.
Hi! love the quality of this video. Rookie q - how does the difficulty of this hike compare to Potato mtn?
Woo hoo!
Apple Watch Ultra??? How is it coming up anyway? Battery, maps?? Still wear Garmin just in case? Great video as always :) Keep them coming.
Have gone back full time to the Epic Pro 51mm
Toujours pas de revue sur l'EPIX GEN2 PRO ???

@@Hikingguy Thank you very much for the information!
How is the hike around Memorial Day weekend? In respect to snow and wearing crampons, thanks in advance for your advice.
It just depends on the year and how much snow. Best bet is to look at AllTrails trip reports as the date approaches and see the conditions.
@@Hikingguy Thanks really appreciate all that you do for the hiking community 🤙🏽
@@expatadventureturkey9324 Thank you!
I noticed that now you have to hike to the trailhead because Angeles Crest is closed. Anyone else having that issue?
It's open to Vincent Gap, Google Maps is incorrect
What camera do you use?
