Yes he was the example of holding onto a QB until something bad happens. Along come the Vikings. The Browns are hoping the same thing this year. You could argue that the Bradford trade was bad and panicked trade by the Vikings. They got one year of production out of him and gave up a 1st and 4th round pick.
The Bradford for Foles trade was in 2015, a year before Wentz was drafted. That's the trade that was in the worst bunch, although Minnesota trading a #1 for Bradford could also be among the worst.
Flacco flat out sucks! I’m a Chiefs fan but AFC West is going to be a slugfest… I don’t think there is a bad team in the division. The rest of the NFL is lucky all 4 teams have to play each other twice.
And you have to wonder if Wilson isn't looking at the Browns deal with Watson and thinking I want a taste of that. $230M fully guaranteed over five years and tore up his prior contract. Watson got to pocket his $27M bonus with one year of work and only extended his time until he was a UFA by one year.
@@mawile2468 yeah, but they just posted this an hour ago. Tom Brady announced he's returning like two days ago. They didn't update this before posting.
Shame about the 2014 season where you lost both Palmer and Stanton. We actually joked with Ms. Warner about Kurt coming out of retirement. What might have been.
Marino was drafted by the Dolphins so I'm not sure what you mean. Unless you're talking about the other 26 teams who passed on him but in 1983 the Colts drafted Elway then traded his rights to the Broncos for an offensive lineman, Chris Hinton, who was pretty good in his own right. Colts just never gave him a decent QB. But Marino and Elway have nothing to do with each other.
One problem I have with the Stafford trade is that Goff also led the rams to a super bowl and played a better team and led a better offense. He also did it younger than Stafford.
I reckon foles was still a decent player. I know he wasn’t traded back to Philly from St. Louis but he’s gonna be remembered by eagles fans for a long time.
Honestly, it doesn’t really matter if you have a bust on your hands or not, as long as you get rid of them quickly so you aren’t constantly trying to trade for players to build around him when it’s inevitable that they will fail. Excellent player evaluation is crucial for a successful football team for obvious reasons, but it’s also important to avoid setting your team back multiple years and having your fans turn against you.
Payton Manning to Denver in 2012. 2 sb appearances, 1 won. Won the division 4 time in his 4 year there. Though that wasn't a trade... Hopefully gets on the best free agency pick up of the last 10 years list.
A couple of things. As a 50+ year Cardinals fan, trading for Palmer was the best move this franchise has made since drafting Larry Fitzgerald. Palmer didn't have a great year in 2013 but he did pass for over 4,000 yards and 24 TD's. He just couldn't beat the 49ers. But 2014 was the year he started to shine but he blew out his knee in week 8. 2015 he was also going gangbusters but dislocated his middle finger on his throwing hand which hampered his effectiveness. Losing Mathieu didn't help matters against Carolina either. #2, you failed to mention that the Cards traded UP to get Rosen but they off loaded him to Miami for a 2nd round pick. Sadly that pick turned out to be Andy Isabella which doubly sucks because DK Metcalf was just sitting there so basically this was a lose lose for both teams.
Um, Arians wasn't the coach of the Cardinals when they drafted Rosen. That would be Steve Wilks. And I wouldn't say the Cards "made out like bandits" when they used that 2nd round pick to take bust Andy Isabella.
I guess Stafford looks good but The Rams were the luckiest Super Bowl winners in history.Opponent injuries and the way games around them fell helped them limp to a Super bowl win.If they fail to make playoffs this year it wouldn’t surprise.
Honestly with how this year worked out... You can remove Sam Darnold for worst & add Russell Wilson. You can also add Geno Smith to Best... There's no way... NO FREAKING WAY!!! You can't say that was one of the most lopsided trades in NFL history of recently.
Including the Flacco trade on the list of 5 worst QB trades of the last decade is a huge miss. Sure, he crapped his pants. But, frankly, the cost was too low to even consider him for this list. Heck, Flacco wasn't even the worst QB the Broncos made a trade to acquire in the last decade- much less top 5 in the entire league. That dubious honor goes to Paxton Lynch, who went to the Broncos in the 2016 NFL draft after they traded their 3rd round pick to Seattle (plus the 32nd overall pick) in exchange for the Seahawks' 26th overall pick. Lynch, the supposed heir to Peyton Manning in Denver, accrued a pathetic 4 starts, 4 TDs, & 4 INTs in 3 years with the Broncos, and has since flamed out of both the NFL and the CFL. That's far worse than a swing and a miss on an obvious bridge QB.
At least Miami hedged their bets on Rosen. They traded down in the 2nd round & got a 2020 2nd in return, so they weren't risking much sending the 2019 lower 2nd round pick to Arizona. Arizona was smart enough to know Rosen was a bust & did the rare thing of dumping a top 10 QB pick after 1 year while he still had some trade value.
What about the Johnny Unitas trade from Pittsburgh to the Colts? That has to be the greatest QB trade ever…before Montana, Unitas was considered the best QB of all time
Unitas was never traded by the Stealers. In fact, he was never really given a chance. He was drafted in the 9th round but cut during camp because he wasn't deemed smart enough to be a NFL QB. He tried out for the Colts and made it as a backup. Now, the QB to compare him to would be Kurt Warner. After getting cut by the Stealers, he went to work in construction before joining a friend to try out for the Colts which he made and the rest is history.
People act like Stafford was this day one quarterback when he showed up in Detroit. Most didn't experience what Lions fans did during those early years of development to get him to the quarterback he is today. A raw, low completion, turn over machine. McVay would have jettison Stafford after four years like Goff, considering if you compare the two's qb rating after those five years. Stafford was given more time and chances to develop than any quarterback in the history of professional football. And all the time being paid in the top 5 quarterback salaries. So, Stafford should be thanking the Lions organization and its fans instead of condemning them.
