It's a shame so many great musicals were overshadowed by Hamilton's phenomenal success.
I know. I love Hamilton as much as the next guy, but so many other shows opened too.

I wouldn't call it insulting. Lin's done a rap musical before, and Broadway has never been just one genre if you look at it. I think it's a great time for new musicals, I love this one

So, basically, all these footage are never going to see the light of day. I mean once waitress is over(which i don't want to) I want a DVD of the show. Footages like these should never be wasted and kept in a vault. A lot of the past Broadway shows that I loved and have ended never came out with a dvd. I was thankful when RENT came ot with the dvd but that was it I needed more for memories.
I’m pretty sure these are just scenes shot for promotion which broadway musicals always do but they don’t always film the whole show professionally so we don’t even know if there is a full show recorded.. :(

I read somewhere that broadway shows are usually professionally recorded for archives. I hope the library who keeps all the recordings would someday open a subscription program where we can watch them

It's plot is a movie by the same name, played by Keri Russell. Waitress gets pregnant by her abusive child of a husband Earl, has an affair with her married doctor and a bunch of other awesome things happen too, you should watch it. Waitress, 2007.
okay people, first of all, why are we fighting over Hamilton and Waitress' worth of winning a Tony or recognition? i love both and i don't see the importance of losing our head over a matter like this. yes, Hamilton is not in a classic Broadway style, but it takes hard work to make it. and i also agree that Hamilton is "trying to modernize Broadway" but we need to open up for a new genre. if it's by any means insulting to you, i wouldn't say more. i wouldn't push my opinions on people. but just remember that Broadway is never in a particular genre, and Broadway lovers should understand that, although hard to believe, Hamilton won eleven Tonys for a reason. we shouldn't leave or move on from the classic style of Broadway but neither do we need to be small-minded for new possibilities.
i'm open to other opinions, just reply to this.

Alex_Zamo Because it either suits a character or the writers are trying to appeal to a wider audience than just musical fans or fans of the topic.
Nuumie_ I agree completely!!! You are not saying that everything should be rapped or anything like some people are saying and Lin Manuel Miranda spent four years researching for that musical! He deserves it!!

She was completely mediocre compared to Kimiko Glenn.
This musical stole my heart. I definitely recommend seeing it! Absolutely amazing cast and music.
i feel like everyone’s talking about how coleens gonna be in waitress, and i’m so excited for her and i know she’s gonna crush it, but i don’t want waitress to just become that musical that colleen was in because in reality it’s so much more than that, and it deserves to be seen as such! so just try to remember that! i’d hate to see the fans completely gloss over the rest of the cast because they’re all incredibly talented and all deserve just as much recognition as each other! but i’m incredibly proud of colleen for getting the role and this is great as it will most likely get lots of her fans into musical theatre. and of course being excited for her is fine, this is just a badly structured psa i guess!

Melina how the hell did DEH win for best orchestra and NOT the great comet. I absolutely refuse to listen to overrated musicals nowadays because honestly I feel others deserve better, and the musicals that are overrated are also overhyped. Like Hamilton.

I'm not the greatest fan of Hamilton, but I do believe it was better. Don't pretend it's not. Waitress was overshadowed, I agree, but it isn't the greatest in my opinion. Like Hamilton wasn't the ONLY new musical that overshadowed Waitress. Hamilton had structure and history and banger songs. Waitress just felt like another musical.

is it just me or is the music in waitress better than Hamilton? I know, hip hop musical, original and everything, but that doesn't mean the music is actually that good. Sorry!!
Stephen Trash you probably like the music in waitress more because it's more upbeat and has a familiar sound to it. Hamilton on the other hand is a bit more serious and grim.

I was obsessed with Hamilton for over 6 months, refusing to listen to an music and it is an amzing musical, I'm even going to see it! But I think Waitress deserved something as its completely stolen my heart now and its currently my favourite musical 💖
I love waitress so much but sorry Hamilton is better. They aren't even on the same creative level. Lin is transcendent. (Although I hoped Jessie Mueller would get best actress)
henlo frand I agree that the choreography in Hamilton is out of this world and so clever, I just think they’re both good for completely different reasons. I think Waitress is more relatable and has a really important message to convey whereas Hamilton is clever and teaches History in a memorable way

I’m disappointed that this musical got over looked by HAMILTON. Hamilton (no offense to anyone who loves this musical) played by Lin Manuel CANT EVEN SING, he did an amazing job with the writing BUT HE CANT SING.
