I'm one blessed American that saw them 'live'........they were fantastic...... and had partied with them. I had a mishap and spilled my glass of red wine on the sleeve of Vivian's suede jacket. He didn't notice so I slipped away to join other party goers. I know it's too late but Sorry Viv. ❤
You can see in a mid 70s documentary about his day to day that he continued to do this until after the bonzos broke up too. I think he found a lot of inspiration in their quirks
Yes it is. He was on Do Not Adjust Your Set. Viv Stanshall played a song every week on the show. Some of the Monty Python team started on this show too.

I’d like you to do a video about John Lennon singing on the song “Band on the Run” during a period when we’re led to believe they hated one another. I’ve yet to see anyone ever mention this.
Are we certain this is not Harry Nilsson playing Viv Stanshall? He was naturally blonde and around back then. Compare this video to Harry Nilsson's song video (see link below) below. The comparison is uncanny. Harry had a beautiful voice and he knew the Beatles and there's a picture of him with Billy, so he had definitely met Billy. I don't know the exact dates. Usually when Billy and the other guy he hired (more long term) played Vivian Shanshall, they played him with red hair and beard. Tell me what you think. The camera does a close up at around the 1:28 mark, so you can really see the resemblance. Also, notice Harry's movements at the end of the song. He could easily play the prissy type movements of the Viv Stanshall character. Also notice the woman who introduces Harry in the video clip (link below) in another language, actually says the words, "Paul McCartney" when she introduces him. If you speak this language, tell us what she said about Paul McCartney. ruclips.net/video/9kznTMxOsxo/видео.html
This is a very interesting connection that I’m honestly surprised nobody else has mentioned. While I don’t believe that it’s Harry Nilsson in this particular performance, it’s more than likely he not only played Vivian Stanshall in One Man’s Week, but also played the role of Paul McCartney himself quite a few times. Unfortunately I don’t speak the language that the host was speaking, so I can’t know for sure what she said about Paul McCartney. I will edit my comment if I have any further information.

the fact that people think that vivian is talented enough to replace paul mccartney is honestly a huge compliment to his talent
you're so lost, just mental@@bustercherry8734
Bill's the best. Love hearing some of his other 999 voices.
It's amazing to think that Vivian Stanshall is about 25 here. He has so much charisma.
He was about 32, and he's the same man who is now 'Paul McCartney'.
Billy Shears in his younger days
Stanshall would find old 78s in markets for next to nothing then get the band to learn the song.

fabulous stuff
Priceless!
A stunning song.
TISWAS , with good manners 😂
Billy at his finest.
Billy Bilo or Billy shears
He does love that music hall style. Honey Pie came from this tradition

Tuba and piccola are the foundation of any reputable show!!

It resembles "Honey Pie"..why would it be?
because is the same kind of chord progression and instruments used in the typical english hall music of the 20s
Do they do any comedy?
Don't be stupid.
