You could always put dowels in the back of the shelf that correspond with holes in your ply, that way you would have no fixings but would be nicely fixed to the ply, you could even glue the shelf in place? I like the idea of that but I'm a little worried my accuracy is something to be desired. Thank for the idea though.
Not sure if I missed it but did you say why you don't want any brackets underneath 5ft long shelves? Are you wanting them to look like floating shelves? I'm not sure if they'll take much weight without some sort of bracket under them (or some additional support coming down from the ceiling. Also, I'm not on Facebook but I'd be really interested to see some links to other RUclips channels associated with Woodwork UK. I asked a question on their channel recently, but no reply so far.
I just think it would look cleaner not to. Plus I have a personal hatred for shelf brackets. I'll see if I can find be the link to the RUclips channels.
