I'm a 60 yr old woman who is not one iota handy with electronics. I have a sony bravia TV that just stopped working. I did all the obvious fixes suggested by sony. Nothing worked.....I was tossing it out when I ran across this video. I have a screwdriver and took the back off....looked for what I thought were capacitors(sp?) Put the hair dryer to it.....unbelieveable.....your suggestion worked.....I am watching it now.....crazy crazy fix....I'm impressed. Thank you for doing what you do.....one more tv out of the landfill for now.
You are amazing. I like these kind of videos but still think how near impossible it would be for me to do this. For example, I have no idea what flux is. However, I do learn and enjoy watching. Thanks.
Search for videos on soldering surface mount components or just soldering in general. I'll bet there are tons out there for beginners. It takes some skill but anyone can learn it.
I have that exact same Samsung TV model. As soon as I saw the base it sat on, it was easy to figure out. The Samsung has a service replacement for a number of capacitors on the power board. After acquiring the TV, I've only had to replace two capacitors. One green one and the other was the huge capacitor that powers up the set. It's only 720p but it still produces a nice picture. This tv is actually quite heavy to pick up. That's how old this thing is.
I just wanted to add my voice to the many, saying what you do is awesome. I've learned, partially out of necessity, that we give away a lot of our power and money when it is easy enough to help ourselves. That is what you're showing people. I've fixed a lot of things myself simply by trying. And most of the times they !were things I'm not experienced in or knowledgeable about. But the info was out there and I asked questions and researched and got it done. (Thank God!) My latest thing is converting a bathroom to an office. So far I've done the demo pretty much down to the studs and caped off all the plumbing in a way that will make it easy to go back if I ever want. I'm contemplating a small solar project w/battery to power my computers etc., so your info on that will come in handy for sure. Thanks for sharing with us!
I never thought of going to ebay for a kit, seeing them describe the symptoms that the kit can fix is a really useful thing. What sort of search terms did you use? Model number, repair kit, fault description, something else?
A few years ago I had this similar problem with this tv. It also had bad caps on power board. The problem with the main board is a small capacitor. It's a small surface mount on the other side of the main board in between the two switch regulator ics. The 3.3 volts is not stable that causes the loud sound and messed up screen. I replaced that SM cap with a regular electrolytic. I actually have the video ony RUclips it's from 2017 July..
When the ic101 got pointed out you could see it Bein all cracked up, at least that's what I saw. Nice video, will try to do something like this when my new house is done, thanks!
Thanks! I don’t think the ic was cracked, it had some junk on the top that may have given that impression. One thing I want to improve is my camera for recording macro shots. It’s usually a trade off between the video looking good or me being able to see what I’m doing. =)
Very Nice job. I have been watching many TV repair videos, and you are one of the few I subscribe to NOW. I just wish we could see more schematics to help us follow with the T/S of the problems.
Thanks! Yes, schematics for the main boards especially. The other boards are fairly standard but It would help if they published schematics for them too.
I see that you ordered the kit from M-Tronicz. A couple weeks ago, I received my eBay M-Tronicz $17 repair kit for my TV, a 10-year old Sharp 60-inch LC-60C6500U, but have yet to install it. Other options from other sellers were the entire board, which cost closer to $100. So I was pressured to buy the kit or stock might run out. The issue is no picture, likely a regulator problem & it died a year ago, so it's been sitting for a year not getting fixed. If your trash TV got fixed by an M-Tronicz kit, then hopefully chances are mine will get fixed also by the same seller. Fingers crossed. I might begin repair it 1-2 weeks, by mid April 2023.
Reminds me of the TV I found in the trash... I was anxious to get it in and try and fix it wouldn't you know it worked just fine... I guess sign of the times TV's have gotten so cheap even perfectly working ones are thrown away...
Good idea. I am not sure how many people would be interested in that though. I want to try making some video shorts so maybe that could be a candidate?
Nice video , I have a tv that shows horizontal colored stripes after 60 minutes or so, they come a few seconds then disappear and so on. Do you know what this problem is?
Nicely done. You must have 50 TVs in your house.😁. Im sure you sell them. I am curious... How often do you do something like this and fail? Overall is it profitable or at least break even?
Thumbs 👍 . I have an old 32 samsung. It continuously cycles thru channel search whenever it's turned on. I've tried a hard reset but get the same result. Any ideas?
WTF! So i had a TV break just like this about a month ago. Replaced it and put the broken one in storage. Got on RUclips look to try to fix it couldn't find anything that helped. Well today this video was recommended by RUclips in my feed so I clicked on it. Within 5 minutes I was like why not try to see if this works..... well it worked! THANK YOU SO MUCH ! And it only took a little piece of tape. Guess I got an extra TV now! ❤
I really want to get one of these old Samsungs, i especially because of the startup sounds they commonly have. Atm i have a Bush (Vestel) TV, which i don't particularly want hur don't want to throw it away.
Hi, picked up an old sony bravia model KDL 26M4000 from the trash too. Powers on but turns off after 10 seconds. Haven't opened up the back yet. Any initial ideas on whats wrong with it?
My son went to turn up the volume on our older insignia tv and received a zap (static electricity) when he pushed the button. Now the buttons won’t work. The tv works fine but the buttons don’t, not even to turn it off. Any thoughts?
I would assume that the button bar went bad (though it could be the main board). I’d look for the 5v or maybe 3.3v supply to it. You can replace the button bar. Someone probably sells one on eBay. If you are adventurous, maybe you can find the faulty part on it and solder on a new one.
Hats off to you.Repairing is the key to climate change...after that comes recycling. People my age , just don't care to repair they just have to buy whenever apple launches their new product
Hi my son gave me tvHisense 55 inches for Mother’s Day two years ago it went out Find months ago and I don’t want to get rid of it how can you help me fix it a little red light turns on and then turns off nothing else is wrong with it it will just not turn on
Please i am from india karnataka same problem in but it's lg 55 inch 4k smart tv screen is not cracked for some minutes it's running clearly and ist turned black screen and i think by watching your videos please help me out
Thanks for watching! Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already.
Straight, to the point and no fuss... a rare commodity in RUclips today!

How do I block signal on Toshiba T’Con flex to get rid of lines

You seldom post videos but when you do, for sure we have a lot to learn. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for watching! I’m aiming to post more often.

Great to hear you are tackling new projects! Let me know what might be helpful with the solar project.
Great recovery. Thanks for bringing us along.

Thank you for this! Keep the repair vids coming...

Mainly just use the model number
I got worried for a sec when the noise started... I swear I saw the girl from the ring coming out the screen!
LOL, it definitely shocked me.
I had a F. E. A. R. Moment..

Great work and it will last quite a while longer the cfl lamps hardly ever fail .

Just take your time, I think you'll do great and have a nice working tv by the end.
Do you ventilate the solder fumes?
It may be hard to see but there is a fume extractor (the blue thing under the microscope) on my work area.
Nice bro 👍
Thanks!

Yeah, that happens. I’m sure you’ll come across other projects to fix up.
Great to see otherwise wasted TV being saved. Would be interesting to see a deep dive and diagnostic, lucky guess that the chip was bad.
Good idea. I am not sure how many people would be interested in that though. I want to try making some video shorts so maybe that could be a candidate?
@@FrugalRepair Totally, shorts for those don't have the time for the long videos. Keep the good work coming :)

nice tv I like the older ones
If I remember your channel name right, you have been subscribed for a long time. Thanks for watching the videos!
Thanks
I just foind the same tv in the fumpster it works perfectly fine
Thumbs 👍 . I have an old 32 samsung. It continuously cycles thru channel search whenever it's turned on. I've tried a hard reset but get the same result. Any ideas?
Thanks! That’s a strange issue. Have you tried disconnecting the input bar from the main board? Maybe a button on the side of the tv is stuck?
I have the same issue with a 32 viewsonic and disconnected the control bar button out of mainboard but it still. What is the problem?
WTF! So i had a TV break just like this about a month ago. Replaced it and put the broken one in storage. Got on RUclips look to try to fix it couldn't find anything that helped. good job
What is the cost of the kit. Did you get the remote with it? What do you think the resale value of it is?
So satisfying, truly amazing 🤩
Thanks for watching!
What would be the symptoms of a mainboard problem.?
Thanks for showing the ebay search.
Looking for repair kits and services can give you good clues to what might be the root issue.
I really want to get one of these old Samsungs, i especially because of the startup sounds they commonly have.
Atm i have a Bush (Vestel) TV, which i don't particularly want hur don't want to throw it away.
Any tips for how to fix a screen that has some dark lines on it (that are even visible when the tv is off... polariser?) (It's a Hisense 55inch)
Hmm, while the tv is off? I suppose it could be the polarizing film. Or maybe something that went wrong on the lcd panel.
Hi, picked up an old sony bravia model KDL 26M4000 from the trash too. Powers on but turns off after 10 seconds. Haven't opened up the back yet. Any initial ideas on whats wrong with it?
I don’t know because it could be a lot of things. Older Sony’s like that have had issues with the tab bond lifting on the driver board.
My son went to turn up the volume on our older insignia tv and received a zap (static electricity) when he pushed the button. Now the buttons won’t work. The tv works fine but the buttons don’t, not even to turn it off. Any thoughts?

I don’t think people have a problem with repairing their broken products. It’s just that the repair must be cost effective.
where can I get ribbon cables for the T-CON board left and right sides
ebay or shopjimmy are the only places I would know where to get them.

Nice
I think the chip u replaced is an EEPROM
I have the same kind of tv but it power cycles, boot up sounds plays, then turns off and repeats. Been trying to find the culprit for awhile now.
How can I plug in my LG?

I don’t really understand your issue but if the screen is going black it might be the led backlight. Make sure to do the flashlight test to confirm.
@@FrugalRepair it is black screen is like it's lit up but black screen
Most of the tvs I find on the street have smashed screens.
Yeah, that’s why you always have to check before taking it home. It’s probably the most common fault.
Love this and your channel, but please include a warning for headphone/ ear plug users next time. Yikes!
Sorry, I didn’t think about that!

Waste of time ans energy. Just look at the bezels on that thing! I'd be surprised if it's not 720p.
