- Nineteen people are still unaccounted for following the collapse of a building in George last week. Authorities are still working on identifying the 33 who died. It's also become public that the Engineering Council of South Africa previously received two complaints against a registered professional who was working on the building. The Council's CEO, Bridget Ssamula says that with the first complain there was insufficient evidence to investigate further. #enca #dstv403

Just because an Engineer is registered with ECSA...doesn't mean they are competent!!!
No, but if they are a registered professional engineer he / she definitely is competent
@@christiandewitt7459 To belong to ECSA..you must be a degreed trained professional..but lowered pass rates are breeding an incompetent generation. Lately, there is little or no emphasis placed on industrial SHE in general..and it's not just in the construction industry...and then people like myself, as a Risk Management Specialist...can't get work based on the color of my skin or when companies want to cut costs. When will they learn...??
@@wendyvanblerk815 Look I cannot argue with any of you points as you are correct on both! What I pointed out is that if you are a registered PROFESSIONAL engineer it means you have gone through a process of peer reviewed work-study (after becoming registered at ECSA) so to say and that means you would then be the COMPETENT person. The terms are not really interchangeable, except to the layman on the ground. Also being competent does not mean that you (or rather that person) will always get something right; but it does mean that that person will have to take responsibility. As to the lowered pass rates, CPUT's engineering department was de-registered for a couple of years ago for something like that. It is very easy to see if a person is registered on ECSA's website, just go to the "who is registered button"; similarly if you feel your engineer is "incompetent" or behaving unethical you can follow the process on the website to lay your complaint.
@@wendyvanblerk815 I really doubt the cause was engineering design but of course that’s where investigations start. So let’s give it time and see it unfold. SAn professionals are generally very competent at an international level.
@@khayelihlemngoma2393 It MUST start with the Engineers and the constructors. Where are the structural integrity tests, what materials were used and were the builders vetted by the Master Builders Association? Forgive my discontent...this tragedy should NEVER have happened. And the fact that interpreters had to be brought in..tells me that there was a large contingent of foreign nationals employed as subcontractors and some were illegally in the country! Nou ja...!!
Why then wasn't the construction STOPPED by the dept of labour's?????
To expect the "officials " to actually do their work is the same as expecting Cyril phala phala to be honest!! The Moon is Not made of cheese!
Probably accepted bribe money?
How is the council person not a South African? Are you kidding me ?
Where’s the rule that every council person should be South African? I know you are black South African before even asking.
@@emajange380 I rest my case. Duh! Can you work in any country, second thoughts, don’t answer, as it’s rose tinted glasses I noticed
@@Ummo2850 yes any qualified person can work anywhere in the world. Am working as an engineer in the UK right now and nobody tells me to go back blah blah like black South Africans do to black Africans
@@emajange380 is there unemployment in UK of engineers? You’re out of touch mate. Think SA has people instead of taking foreigners. You seem awfully immature in outlook
Soon they will tell you the same.
She doesn't sound too intelligent to chair an engineering council. If she was aware of the complaint why didn't she initiate the suspension of the engineer and stop construction?
Is there any South Africans left in George ?
Yes....The White Domkop Mayor of George !!!!
@@truth-Hurts375 Only him ? so sad 1 boer giving all the People from Zimbabwe and Malawi work, Locals sitting at home waiting for Grant.
George is mostly run by white. Goverment has to investigate the preferances the George residents have for using foreigners.
But this women also looks and sounds like she is from Zimbabwe or Malawi 😦😦😦😦
I think Kenya or Tanzania
So?
So what? She's here legally and has qualifications. Go look in the township for someone with qualifications.
If she was white from Germany you wouldn’t be talking all that nonsense but because of the inferiority complex instilled into you by Apartheid you think foreign blacks can’t be Engineers
@@emajange380 why not local ? soon we all will be sitting at home
She's not from Southern Africa mybe East Africa.
She may be in the country leagally...Domkop !!!!
Stop hallucinating
That's only what you see Black foreigner ms SOB
If he was under investigation why the site was not stopped???
It's intriguing to note that this occurred in a province often praised for its efficient management. Could it be that the municipality responsible for approving the plans was under the administration of the DA?
Let's focus on rescuing trapped workers, other reports later.
Sadly..it's no longer a rescue. It's become a retrieval.
This is a socking story. Pass the blame. Pass the blame. This woman failed those who died.
The woman failed not the engineer who designed and signed off all the progress onsite? You’re weird! Very weird
Is it a beee engineer, did he buy his license at university of Fort Hare?
he he he!!! nice and thanks for sharing.....so i can by mine at fort hare....do i have to attend a few classes???
@@davidfarmer3499 you don’t even have to pay tuition just have money for the bribe
Mitchell Athol the engineer responsible for this disaster.
He’s actually a white engineer from the DA run Western Cape lol
@emajange380
You are all disgusting bickering over this. People lost their lives. Doesn't matter if they're from Kenya, Malawi, or wherever. They lost their lives probably due to incompetence and bribery?
We all know what happened, sometimes it is what they do not say that nails it.
So while an engineer is being trailed he can happily just keep on practicing....make no sense
Could the chairperson show us one building she was once responsible for its construction?
Its very sad of those poor people that lost there lives condolences to all the families who lost a family member or loved one hope they can find out why the building had collapsed and taken away inersant people's lives
Maybe money solved the previous complaints.
In SA money and connections solves everything.
( Just a thought.)
The people doing investigation should be higher qualified to start off with.
A kwerekwere is the CEO of Engineering council of SA and you wonder why we have the type of engineers we have. Show me the infrastructure she's built in her country?
We are finished. A kwere kwere from Uganda.
The word you are looking for is...Immigrant...if she made her way to SA leagally....then she did nothing wrong .
Ag, not so long ago another one was a head of department in government, only to find out he's got fraudulent documents. @@truth-Hurts375
You would rather attack the black professional who did nothing wrong instead of Mitchell Athol the white engineer responsible for the mess at George.Typical black South African kffr with an inferiority complex
A kffr is the CEO of Alcohol Board of SA. Show me infrastructure built by kfrrs in SA
flying or building up more than 1 floor up etc does not need blahblahing by posers - we need to
re-employ people qualified for a job and not for any other reasons or this circus will go on -lets not get started on eskom.... ,or those unfortunate people that died recently in that bus crash - south africa needs to be build up and not destroyed by people that thinks they are qualified meanwhile they waffle on with political sounding phrases and steal from the people - technical schools should be re-instated and the university saga put to rest - lawyers needs plumbers , welders etc ,wake up south africa.
Why they allow her to be CEO don’t we have engineers here in SA ? In her country such thing will never happen . Our government is very soft . They do as they wish everywhere go to private schools is kwerekweres voor
Who told you that she's not an engineer? You're dumb
30% pass engineer
Was an "engineer" maybe also a rocket scientist, but nothing will be done as there is a shortage of "engineers and rocket scientists... 🤔
Investigation took too long..
He bribed some one
Lies thay gave you money to keep quiet
Take your evidence to George Police station....they are open 24/7.
@@truth-Hurts375 THEY ARE JUST AS BRIBABLE AS THE REST
