  • Part 8: Sweet Amber
    Now this was unexpected.
I've decided to give St. Anger a shot. The album is often bashed by critics and metalheads for the ridiculous snare drum, raw production and some odd recording choices.
I like St. Anger. I don't love it, cause I'm not crazy but I do like it. And this whole playthrough made me appreciate it even more. It has that raw edge and emotion, that's lacking in albums before and after. Sure, it's rough as hell, but that's what makes it special.
Also shout out to Bob Rock, the basslines are surprisingly fun. I thought it's just gonna be safe and basic the whole way through, but it's not. There's some great basswork on here.
I've recorded all 11 tracks in a one, 3-hour long session. The further I went into the album the harder it was to properly concentrate, so if you see any mistakes in the video... I really don't care!
Also it was crazy hot on the day I was recording so you see me get more and more sweaty the further we go.
Just enjoy the album! I know I have.

The song is from Metallica's eighth studio album - St. Anger, released in 2003.

I had exactly THAT bass - amazing instrument for the price, plus super wide string spacing - 20 mm on the bridge - which helped me find out that it is exactly my preferred spacing, after all previous experiments, trials and errors. Oh, and by the way, some good playing here - thumbs up! :)
