- In this episode, James takes a look at yet another Mario game in the Nintendo mega franchise. The game "Mario is Missing!" was originally released on PC, Mac, NES and SNES, but at different times. It came out in 1992 for the PC and SNES, both developed by Mindscape. However, the version that James is playing is the NES version, published by Nintendo, released in 1993. It's also the first game to feature Luigi as the main character, which wouldn't occur again until 2001's "Luigi's Mansion", and for a good reason.

My Grandmother and I played this game on SNES with her set of Encyclopedias. It is a very nice memory.

I actually beat the NES version of Mario's Time Machine several years ago. It probably helped that I already knew my history pretty well to begin with.
In 2001 Nintendo finally did Luigi justice. Luigi's mansion for the GameCube was awesome.
Supposedly Mario Is Missing was made by a 5th grader who won a prize to make his own game. :-/

I wouldn't really call something a game if the player cannot lose. I would label that under experimental experiences but I would be hesitant to call it a game. Only possible one I can think of that would counter act this is sim/sandbox games? But that is based off creativity, if you wanted to be abstract here you could say "losing" is the lack of creativity?

That's because the nerd doesn't review bad games in most of the time, and he said that he couldn't find any bad Neo Geo game. He said so in one of the James & Mike mondays chapters.

On top of that, this wasn't developed entirely by Nintendo, they were developed independently by other companies - they just licensed it.

The only thing I liked from Mario´s Time Machine was the music. It has some good remixes.
The awesome music track from the abysmal Mario's Time Machine is the track for the last hub world of that game.
I liked the game as a whole. For pc anyway. I liked Megaman Legends too, and they are two legitimately liked games so I don't see the deal.
The graphics were also impressive for a NES game that tried to be like a SNES game

I owned Mario's Time Machine on the SNES... and I actually thoroughly enjoyed it as a kid. Didn't know there was a NES version, but it looks worse. The surfing parts aren't as hard as he makes it out to be. Because score mattered at the end, the best strategy was to go once, learn all you need to know from talking to people, solve the "quiz" and then leave, and then re-enter, solve the quiz and then quickly go to the person you need to see to give back the item to complete the level. I managed to beat it as a kid, and I spent many hours playing it and had fun. Though, as an adult now, I probably would have no interest in playing through it again. So, I guess it worked for its target audience?
