hello! it was brought to my attention that there was another video that explained things better, so here are my thoughts on What You Still Don't Know About BTS SPRING DAY MV by Italian Army: -all the references to yellow ribbons + album art & concepts for the repackaged album that spring day was the title track of are very direct references, i think I saw some of it in the original vid but i did not realize it was a part of that album! -the other perspective on the opening scene w/ V on the tracks is interesting, closer to my first impression of listening for a train, did not catch that that sound was the sound of a ship's horn though -the shoes being a reference to shoes left as tribute to those lost on the ferry is so powerful (and absolutely devastating, but so is this entire video/concept... definitely not tearing up again as i write this LMAO) -i remember commenting on the laundromat, can't believe i caught that that scene was supposed to symbolize portholes! also that the clothes symbolize those lost, just as throughout the rest of the video/that the machines turning imitates the ferry capsizing... -i did try to do a lot of research while filming that i cut down for the pacing of the video, so i did know about the illegal modifications/excessive weight that led to the sinking. the fact that it was approved to run and CARRY PASSENGERS is absolutely disgusting. all because of the greed of those involved. -i cannot understand what was going through the heads of those who handled the crisis while it was happening. (coast guard giving up on rescuing people, stopping others from trying) -the audacity of the government/media to hide information about the sinking from the famy members of those lost is beyond words. you're lying to some kid's parents just to make yourself look better and save face? again, disgusting. -the reference to "you'll never walk alone" regarding the play and the Liverpool team that also used the phrase to remember a tragedy covered up/reported incorrectly by the media is an incredible reference as well, seeing as they included it in their album concept as well -i like that this video went more into the snowpiercer/omelas references, because those are very pointed as to how BTS(and i'm sure most people) felt about those in charge that allowed what happened to happen. did not know that Snowpiercer also had themes of elites being okay with relying on the suffering of children/lower class individuals to sustain their own lifestyles/reputations. what BTS decided to do with this song, this music video, and that whole album repackage is just incredible. knowing exactly how pointed this MV was in criticizing the gov i can understand how it was very risky for them to do, but all the more important. and it shows by how popular and well-loved it is exactly how needed this kind of outlet was and still is. honestly i was scared to do this MV & song because i wanted to do it justice but as a first time reactor it really is so hard to get the full story right away. hopefully this comment helps to add more to the video. thank you for reading if you got this far, and thank you for watching 💜🎗️

Not sure if someone has already mentioned this or not but RM said he wrote this while at a park and that it was about missing a friend...he saw a leaf falling and then it became snowflakes are falling. Suga too mentioned that he and RM were writing about missing a friend....as far as I know, that is all that has ever been said about the "meaning" of the song and mv. BTS have been asked many times and they always say they leave it up to the interpretation of the listener and that once a song is released, it no longer belongs to them, it belongs to the people who listen to it. Clearly many many many people interpreted it as a tribute to the Sewol tragedy and whether it was actually that or not, BTS respects all interpretations and won't say "no, you are wrong, this is what it means". They performed this at an award show one year and the cameras were panning over to where the other idol groups were seated and you can see other idols clearly crying. This song means so much to so many people.
other less known information that i don't see being talked about enough: - last year we got to know (through an interview with the bereaved families for the 6th anniversary of the tragedy) that both BTS and Big Hit visited the families of the victims in 2014 and also made donations. Big Hit were at the state of bankruptcy, but they still donated 100 million won while also risking being black listed. - this 2020 interview for the Esquire magazine where Jin confirms what is Spring Day about: "[...] there is an undeniable allusion, in both the song’s video and its cover concept, to a specific incident in recent South Korean history. “Spring Day” was released just a few years after the sinking of the Sewol ferry, one of the country’s biggest maritime disasters, in which a poorly inspected, overloaded ferry toppled in a sharp right turn. Hundreds of high school students drowned, having obeyed orders to stay in their cabins as the boat was going down. According to some reports, the South Korean government actively tried to silence entertainers who spoke out against it, with the Korean Ministry of Education fully banning the tragedy’s commemorative yellow ribbons in schools. I ask whether it was about a specific sad event, and Jin tells me, “It is about a sad event, as you said, but it is also about longing.” The song kept the disaster front of mind for young Koreans and for the media, indirectly leading to the impeachment and removal of then president Park Geun-hye."
Both explanation videos are well done & important. Each misses things that the other fills in. This is the original MV. RM wrote the song after the Sewol ferry sinking, so there is no "before", however he hasn't said it was about that. Probably due to concern over censorship. It was a big deal. The President of SK was impeacched because of it and it was discovered that the government had lists of activists, artists, etc. I remember the incident. It was horrific.
i remembered i ask to to my friend in south korea to interpreted about this lyrics and explained to me in english, i was shock thats even my friend in south korea so hard to explained about those lyrics cause some of words they used in this song is so poetic and doesnt usualy daily used in south korea.

I remember during that time BTS almost got blacklisted bcos artists/well known/etc are not allowed to be involved with the current situation and even with the families and that was mandated by the govt.But Tannies and Bang PD risked their careers to donate and help affected families since their gov't were trying to cover up and protect the captain and crew.

I saw a recent video from DKDKTV of 3 Koreans trying to analyze some of the lyrics and translate them to English, but they said that some of the lyrics, especially from the rappers verses, were very poetic that it was hard to translate them to English since they used words and sentences that were not commonly used in everyday conversations, so it was hard to find English equivalents of the lyrics. So this means the translated lyrics on their official music videos on youtube are oversimplifications of their actual lyrics. Their lyrics are much deeper in Korean but English translations don't do any justice to them....so much is lost in translation, but most times, explanation videos help get the message across.
Just to clarify, the song itself is not about the Ferry Tragedy. This song released about 2 or 3 years AFTER the incident so this song can be interpreted so many different ways like many BTS songs. However, the MV was definitely portraying the incident.
not sure if this will be mentioned but in case it isn't, this song came out February 2017 and, as far as i am aware, at least till 2020 when i last saw news about this, never left the Korean charts. not once, not for a single week. it is even a meme that no matter what song bts comes out with spring day is the unbeatable queen. the korean public adore this song and i think it will always be special to them

The song matter inSpring Day by BTS is difficult to to hear and it touching but I believe the dance shows the feel I g of loss just as well as the lyrics do. So checkout the performance of Spring Day with the dance included and you will understand the power of BTS
