DUDE, thank you so much for this video! I have had all the parts to install power door locks in my 2004 Rubicon, I just hadn't gotten around to it because I had no idea how to do it. Your video was very helpful and I actually installed them a couple days ago. I still have to do the tailgate thought, but thanks again!
Dalton Blackwell glad the video helped! I have a few other jeep videos too and if your hesitant on any jeep project just ask in the comments and I'll try and make a video of it!
Thanks so much for the video. If you don’t mind can you answer a question. Does this kit have a trunk button? Was wondering if I could put one on the tailgate and have it work separate. Thank you
Fi Metal the set I purchased had 4 actuators so with a two door vehicle one could be used for the trunk however the fob did not have a separate button to control it. I am sure with a quick search on Amazon you could find one that has a separate button for a trunk lock though.
Glad it helped! I purchased a cheaper model that I assume will be in production (size and style wise for awhile) I also purchased the set of 4 so I could do the trunk and have a spare if one ever went bad: a.co/1tHvi4T $30 on amazon. So if there is a problem they handle defects and returns nicely.
so, have the solenoids held up to this day? i see the kit comes with 4 so thats cool.. great video.. why did you mount the controller in the engine bay? does it recommend that?
I just recently sold the Jeep and have a new Jeep now but they were working they were a little cheaper so the wires needed to be repaired at the door a few time and yes them coming with 4 is a failsafe to have a replacement. Engine bay for the controls was just because it was easier.
@@ianmburke i bought the same kit and im going to do a video on it.. i want to link your video and give you thanks for it.. let me know if you are cool with that...
Hallo from The Netherlands, thanks for the very good video, it helps me very good. I can not find the special tool for to remove the door handle. can you give me a link of this tool by Amazon? I ordered the the doorlocks and wait for delivering, at that moment I need your video. Many regards from Amsterdam. Fred
I know this is old I just did the install and when i hit the unlock the doors lock and vice versa did you have any experience with this? if i switch the wires it just goes crazy unlocking and locking lol
so i did the install it worked great until this same thing happened i unlock the doors and it goes back to lock, what do i have to change? i’m not the best at wiring 😅
It only really uses battery when the remote is activated I'm sure there is a small standby consumption so if left without cycling the ignition for more than a few weeks if pop the fuse out but otherwise you should be fine
i’m back. So mine is acting funny, the car is currently locked and when i press the unlock button one second later it locks by itself without pressing anything and it stays like that. At first when i first installed it, it was working fine with both buttons, unlock and lock. Then the fuse blew out, i replaced it and everything went from there . Also when i unplug the driver side trailer pin the passenger works normal with the button ( unlock when pressing unlock button and locks when i press lock button) I must’ve wired something wrong but i don’t know what. i already tried switching from green wire to green wire to blue and green and instead it kept locking and unlocking non stop.
I updated the description of the video to include all of the links. As for the tools to pry the door panels I purchased them directly from Harbor Freight.
eatmydust1716 it stays sticky and I was able to just press it back together using the plastic film of the door just press it back into the seal line where you have peeled it back.
Jesse Ramos not sure if this you mean the remote battery or not but I haven't replaced them yet and it's now over a year - I assume a two year battery life roughly.
Thank you Ian. I'm going to try this.
Let me know how it goes !

Ian M Burke Alright awesome thanks! And yeah I'll check them out!
Awesome Video , that was a lot of details, really good and helpful. My daughter Just bought a 97 and she wants this done .
Thanks! It's a nice little upgrade to have on the TJ models. Hope it helps once you get into the project
Great job with detail and explaination.
Thank you!
i typically use dakota digital magnum shooters on projects like this... great work and attention to detail...
Thanks I appreciate it! Those are great connectors for sure if I were to do it again I'd likely use them

Thanks for the vid! What do I need to buy and what power lock did you buy? I want to do this to my Jeep but I’m not sure on what I need to buy.
All the of the parts used are linked in the description
Great video! this is exactly what I needed.
Any recommendations on the brand or style of lock actuator kits?

Thanks again! will def be adding this function to my Rubi this weekend:)
Good luck! Make sure you have good grounds :)

There are a lot of different ones in all sorts of price ranges 7-30$ USD - just search Amazon for "auto door trim removal kit"
@@ianmburke thanks, I see only in Plastic, you are using the tool in metal, do you know where to find that?
Did you ever hook up an actuator for the tailgate lock?
No unfortunately I sold the TJ before I got that far
this is great but do i need to buy the fuse box thing or can i just directly plug it into the battery?
i don’t know if you bought it just to be organized or because you actually need it 🤔
I just used it to be organized you can direct wire to the battery
Ian M Burke thanks man helps a lot can’t wait to do it for my tj!
I know this is old I just did the install and when i hit the unlock the doors lock and vice versa did you have any experience with this? if i switch the wires it just goes crazy unlocking and locking lol
Fixed just reverse the polarity on everything (instead of green to green make it green to blue)
That's exactly what I did! Glad it all worked for you!

what connectors did you use to attach the wires to by the door straps?
onelasttitan it's a five flat trailer connector. The passenger side has a two flat connector usually can find both at an auto parts store.
ah gotcha, thanks!
Can you tell me where you got the wire bank from, please??
Amazon: it was cheaper when I got it, so look around "related products" a.co/gKQ0Vbk
Thank you!
Does this drain your battery at all? Or does it only use power from the battery when you press the remote?

Long shot, but did you ever find a solution to this? Mine is having the exact same issue except the fuse never went out.
Can you tell me all of the parts that you bought? I'm really interested in installing this! Also watch my channel for cool mods too

I was just wondering how you resealed the plastic piece that was on the inside of the door cover that was stuck to the door with that black goo?

How long does the batter last ?
