- This video ended up being way longer than I thought it would be. But sometimes that happens. Hopefully you enjoy the content and you get some solid info on the cranes for this build.

i am currently rehbilitating from a stroke i survived in march of 2021! i'm looking forward to modeling again but until then i live vicariously through you!!
I hope for a speedy recovery Robert! Glad your still with us.
That was an old set of Yorktown plans, but one of the best!
I don't get to comment about everything you do. Just to let you know Ben I really appreciate the models you feature. They are above my price range but that does not deter me from watching you build them. You are a true artist at this. There is no way in the world I could do the things you do, with pe and scratch building. But I do appreciate a master at work. I hope this year is fruitful for you and your family.
M'y first Watching in 2024 . Cannot miss one episode. Happy New Year to all of you ans lots of great ship buildings
Thank you!
Ben, that is a great job. I really like how you work through the problems you encounter. You soldier through it, and it looks fantastic when you are finished. The only ones that know what you have encountered are you and those of us who have followed your build. Well done, my friend. Well done!
Thank you, Steve!
Thanks very much Ben and Nora. As always informative and well spoken. Thanks again for your time and efforts
Excellent job! Keep up the good work
Nice video Ben.
Nice work Ben, pity Pontos have no quality control or customer service, you'd like to think because of the price of the PE kits they would do the right thing by the customers.
Happy New Year Ben! Good to see that you are working around the Pontos issues. Noticing that you haven’t opened up the upper side of the doorway to the platforms. Maybe something to improve before it’s too late. Would look strange if it was closed? 🤔
I was looking at that and the plastic is pretty thick there. I was thinking about just painting it black. I’ll figure something out.
Coming along very nice. The moving crane will add a really unique touch to the finished product. Any chance that more parts will be movable?
We will see the further into the build we go.
Hey Ben, just a suggestion here. If it is possible would it be easier to lay the ship on its side and let gravity be your friend while the CA dries. This build looks like your most frustrating yet and I want to congratulate you on how well you have dealt with all the problems, especially the Pontos fiasco. You have definitely convinced me to not purchase their products.
Normally I would do that, but now there’s too much fragile stuff on either side. Thanks for the kind words! I’m going to get past these little hick ups and it will be a fun build again 😉
Happy New year great vid
Not to overcomplicate things, but have you given any thought to doing a 3-D scan of the 3-D parts and doing a reverse resin print for the missing side?
Yes. The 3D scanning tools out there that I have tried don’t do a very good job. And most of the parts I’m missing won’t print well, if at all. They are best made out of PE. But, the simpler shaped boxes I can make myself. I have to decide where I want to spend the time: designing and printing them, or just making them from scratch out of styrene stock.
Hi Ben, great stuff. Who makes that forming tool?
I don’t know. I don’t even remember where I picked it up at.
Actually, it may have come from the jewelry section in Hobby Lobby.
It’s a jewelry mandrel. Thanks
My question is, does the CA glue dry leaving clumps that show up after painting? If your using medium thickness.
It does if you apply it in such a manner. Think of it as caulk or a weld. If I think I need a lot of it, I try to apply it on the inside where no one will ever see it.
@@TheMidwestModelShop thanks for the advice. You plan on 3d printing any C30 or C38 AA. Armament for the German ships ? I'm building the 1/200 Sharnhorst and like the U.S.guns , the process is a pain in the ass.
@michaeldantoni4292 not right now.
In the minute 17 you use a tool for round bending the PE. It seems very useful. What is it and where I can find it?
I don’t know the name. I think it came in a random pack of tools at my hobby store.
Alot of companies make those now. Dspiae makes a good step roller tool.
@@johnathan133 the problem is to find the right keyword. I'm trying many words but never find anything
@@Pauedo Try "step roller tool scale modeling".
Any suggestions for those of us who have the AK set and not the Pontos?
Use the AK set just like they want you to in the instructions. Your ship will turn out awesome.
What type of CA do you use? Is it medium, thick thin or extra thin
I have velums of those in 1/72 scale.
FIRST! I'll think of some pithy comments in a minute...
