These guys with today's sticks would be a joke. As much as I love using an off-set head... The lack of ball movement it creates sucks - and watching a defender throw a perfectly timed check just to see the ball stay in there is disheartening.
McCabe is the best defenseman of all time, all due respect to Petro but it has to be said that Gary Gait didn’t do much this game because Petro flat out owned him. And Volker had a bad, bad day.
They're both amazing and in the conversation. I'd go with Petro. Hank Kaestner is in the discussion - that's going way back. Brodie Merrill and Kyle Sweeney in the best long pole discussion - although Michael Erhardt is quickly gaining in the best ever at that position. IMO.
I have, admittedly watched a hell of a lot more tape of McCabe than Petro. I’ll look this Kaestner fellow up and I don’t even bother comparing today’s defenseman with the old school cats; the sticks have changed so much and the dynamic has changed along with it.
The skill set and the atmosphere was electric.

Not mentioned in this broadcast, McCabe and Panetta played on the same team in high school.
@@TB-sw8tl even crazier that they barely field a team now
