When I was preparing to propose to my now wife, she requested a ring with an opal instead of a diamond. She said why should we settle for a clear stone when you could have a stone that would be 100 times more beautiful. Your channel taught me she was right; opals are the most beautiful and interesting stone.

Good for you guys. Diamonds are over-rated and over priced. They're not particularly rare and aren't that interesting. An opal, however. Now that can be something exceptional, as I'm sure you can see by Justin's videos. Plus there's plenty of other more interesting stones out there. De Beer's did a great marketing job on pushing the diamond and that's about it.

    I've learned:
    1. To spend lots of time studying before cutting,

    3. Justin has "mad skills" :-)
Thanks for the videos - they've helped me learn a ton about working with opal!

25 words: The black opal channel has taught me the value of an opal, also that the color gives an opal its value. I learned that finding an opal is not easy and gives a person great joy to find one. I've learned it takes an experienced eye to decipher where to cut or grind and that different grinding tools create different effects on the stone. And lastly, it isn't size that matters, its brilliance.
Those are my 25 words. And on a separate note, I believe the Le'shem stone in the Biblical ephod is opal...any notes on that?

At first just because I was i trigued by a title promising to show how an opal (a gem I knew next to nothing about except that they were mined out of the ground i Australia) was cut. I was instantly captivated by the elegant process shown to me by a strange fellow worrying about «colour bars» and «potch» and sand and producing stunning specimens of what I have concluded must be one of the finest gemstones that exist. Having a master craftsman so openly sharing the process of making his art with us is a gift. Thanks then, and cheers!

"In Time" 😆 There is sooo very much time involved with opals in every aspect.. .. but the time I have spent cleaning the rock from the opal and exposing the beautiful colour inside & with sanding cutting & polishing .. the wonder of the crystal captivating my curiosity .. for hours & hours is a very special time that I enjoy so much.. and from some unique but very small quantity.
I love the feeling when with my opals. 🤔 I should get a little bag and keep them with me.
    Love your work mateo!

Great Vid Justin. I reckon you've taught me everything I know about Opal, because before subscribing, I knew bugger all. I love your passion for the gem and the enthusiasm you put into each cut/rub. Because of you, I've really opened my eyes to this beautiful gem. I'm a great Carpenter/Builder and because of this I can really appreciate your craftmanship with Opal. BTW your vids have improved unbelievably over the years. Great stuff mate.

Hi Justin, I managed to find the instructions. I love your channel because you are so down to earth, you explain what you're doing and I love watching you cut and shape opals. They are my favourite gem, and also my birth stone. First time I ever saw one I was about 10 years old, loved them ever since. Thanks for all the teachings on colour, cuts and quality. Will keep watching your videos and learn all I can. Cheers, Michelle.

Watching has helped me to better look at the opal that I cut. Much of what I cut I got, thirty years ago or older. Most is inexpensive Coober pedy. Never had a chance to pick up any black. Most small stones, this channel has taught me to look at what I have in a new way. Thanks!

I and my wife lived in WA for a year. Bought her a beautiful opal pendant in Coober. Watching this channel has sparked a hobby for rock finishing myself and love 59 watch Justin and he takes his time to explain and gives us a bit of out adopted home in Aus. Course, the positive message and attitude is wonderful. Rob chappell

I registered for ebay on February 1st, 1998. I immediately began buying Gerber baby jars full of rubs, cuts, and nobbies! I learned about crockery tops from this channel. So, I’ve gone to my trusty Aussie box collection and found 23 untouched nobbies with crockery tops. I bought a 40x loupe and found color, oodles of color I never knew I had!!! Thank you, Justin!!! I feel blessed. I could never afford the opals I never knew I had. Hoping to bring them to you next year in Arizona. The jars ran me anywhere from $5 to $25 each. I lined my fish tank with them for years. I have lots of color but not like 5/5. However, the nobbies show promise. I need to practice on the Ethiopian nodules before I touch my precious Aussies!

You have taught me to polish by hand Justin. That made me dig up a parcel I've been holding on to for 20 years which was given to me when I was 12 yrs old by a miner out in the koroit fields. I've just purchased a cabbing machine now, and there's no turning back.
    Than you!
