- In today's video, we're swatching the newest Iroshizuku inks and comparing them to some of the current and discontinued lineup!
Toro (Warm Lantern)
Rikka (Snow Crystal)
Syun-gyo (Spring Dawn)
These inks replace Kiri-same, Kosumosu and Tsutsuji, which were discontinued in 2024. Overall, they seem like nice additions to the line. Rikka probably seems the most useless considering all the blue offerings already in the lineup, but it's a nice color. I'm really sad we lost 2 great pinks and a warm grey that complements the existing cooler grey though.
These inks were purchased by me with my own money from Vanness Pens. As of this posting, it looks like Vanness still has Kiri-same and Kosumosu in stock if you'd like to grab one while you still can. Check out their website here: vanness1938.com/
Thank you so much for doing this!! I’ve been waiting for a local retailer to offer these in samples so I can try them. I was most excited for syun-gyo to see how it compares to tsukushi. As much as I agree that there are so many blue inks already, why am I actually kind of excited for Rikka? 😆 And all the positive feedback about toro is making me excited to try it. It seems like it’s be a great fit for my deep yellow VP! 😁
I got the yellow and I really like it.
It's so good!!
Thank you so much for comparing these inks to the current and past Pilot ink colors. I had wondered how close Syun-gyo was to Tsukushi. Now I want to add Yama-Guri to my ink collection! I have Syun-gyo and I can’t wait to get it into a pen too. I do like that it is a dark purple with that green sheen. It will be fun in an M or B nib. Happy New Year! 🎉
You're welcome! I figured if I wanted to know, someone else probably wanted to know. haha :) I think Syun-gyo is going to be pretty popular! Yama-Guri is my favorite dark brown!! I love it a ton! thanks for watching :) Happy New Year!
Definitely a fan of Toro and Syun-gyo. Rikka looks nice - it's just that it's another blue! Agree it would have been better to keep one of the discontinued ones... Kiri-same or Ina-ho imo. Perhaps it's based on sales though?
The two brown inks they discontinued were very popular. I also don't understand why there is so many blues in this line of inks.
Because blue and black are the only accepted colors in the professional world. The rest are for artists and/or journal ppl @@Tia-p5f
Still my fave ink brand, AND I still haven’t forgiven them for Ina Ho.
I don’t know how I’ll forgive them for taking not only my Ina-ho, but my Kiri-same??!!! Some hoax that is the ONE ink I thought they would never remove from the line.
I really like Syun-gyo.
I love all of them upon swatching, but agree it stinks to get rid of the three they did and add another blue. Kosumosu was one of my first ink loves so I picked up a backup bottle. I am looking forward to writing with these though! Syun-gyo is especially pretty, I think.
If you've come here for your Purl fix go to 27:00
Better? now watch the whole video for inky goodness 🫡
thank you for the purl stamp heheh
I really like that yellow if the hobonichi sucks this year I'm gonna walk down get me a archer and olive and a sample of that yellow ink and some tsutsuji while they have some
Damn! I need that purple-brown.
it's really good!
So fun! I want the blue and possibly the brown/burgundy. Yay.
I had to pick up an extra bottle of tsutsuji.. sad to see it go.
Syun -gyo on your video looks close to the new lilac from LAMY only that it’s missing a hint of brown but has sand green sheen. Out of the three I would buy Syun-gyo, this one is better aligned with my ink style.
I only have two full bottles of irishozuki inks - ku jaku and tsuki yo. I really didn't think I'd be interested in the new blue, but it's obvs right in my wheelhouse!! Rikka reminds me a bit of Waterman's mysterious blue (at least the old formula) as it has that slightest hint of green.
it sounds like it's right in your wheelhouse! if you get some to try it out, i hope you like it! :D
I wonder how Syun-Gyo compares to the Forest Gateau Inkvent ink? 🤔
ooh good question. i freaking love forest gateau, which i think leans more red, but i will have to do some comparisons!
I’m interested in the Toro; I’ll probably get a sample at some point. But I think it’s CRIMES on Pilot’s part that they got rid of all three of these inks-especially Kiri-same!!! I remember kosumosu being really popular near me a few years ago, and I always meant to get a tsutsuji, having liked a sample I’d gotten.
My Amber Custom 823 is permanently-inked with Kiri-same, so I had to buy a couple of backup-bottles! Thanks for covering the new releases, Manda-hadn’t heard about either the new releases or the discos yet!
P.S. I’m really curious about how Rikka compares to Taccia’s Fukakihanada. If you have it, would you consider showing a comparison?
👌🏻👍🏻
Hey lady! Yeah I'm with ya - I like the yellow. It's happy and a good addition to the line. The brown/maroon is intriguing but the blue I'm just meh about because they already have a shit-ton in the line. So confused why they'd take away such wildly popular ones - especially Tsutsuji! 😧
Wait I thought I wrote a comment about how Rikka seems like my kind of color. But now I don't see it. I even asked if it was Sharksy teal. Did I hallucinate this?! Heh
hmmm, i didn't see a comment! maybe youtube ate it! rikka does seem like your kind of color! i'm happy to bring a sample if you want next time i see you! it's not quite sharky teal, but it is a nice blue. still not sure it's neecessary but it's a pretty color!
To Ro reminds me of Dominant Industry’s Citrus Yellow. I don’t think Syun Gyo is close to anything they have so far. I like Syun Gyo and I hope to get the other two soon.
I don't think i tried that dominant industry ink yet! syun-gyo is amazing. I think it's going to be pretty popular (just judging by the comments here. haha)
@ I love it! I only had enough money for 1, and Syun Gyo was the one I grabbed. It is also out of stock at some of the online retailers, so I think you are correct; everyone wants it.
Hi Manda, I have a question. I just started using my A5 Hobonichi 2025, and I am noticing that my letters are thicker than in my 2024 one, when I test ink. Have you noticed this too?
hi Thomas!! I've noticed it a tiny bit here and there, but haven't had many problems with my hobonichis. I know some people are having lots of problems with bleeding through and stuff, but my notebooks seem to be okay.
I am bloody mad I bought the hobonichi cousin and I tried to do a swatch in the back and EVERYTHING BLED THROUGH even some of my rollerball and gel pens I'm so mad right now what a waiste if it isnt good by the first week I'm gonna throw it in the pile of journals that suck and walk down to my local stationary shop and buy an Archer ande Olive notebook.. we will see
Contact the retailer you purchased it from and demand a refund as the product was guaranteed by hobonichi to handle fountain pen usage and they were made aware of the problem..if folks don’t push the issue and just accept the subpar quality product there will be zero impetus for hobonichi to address further issues that may arise
😢
How did you come up with Pearl's name? Is she named after someone?
I’m also a knitter and a quilter, so she’s named after the Purl stitch 😂 her brother Patches was white with tabby patches so we called him Patches. They both have nerdy crafty names 😂
@@inksplat Oh, "PURL" You could have spelled it, "Purrl" 😅 I love how she supervises and inspects your desk when you film. She's a great production assistant!
The yellow reminds me a lot of Yu Yake? Are they similiar or is that just me?
Edit: She says before watching the part where you compare the Yellow inks. Should have known that I guess, LOL. 🤣
patience, grasshopper! hehe but nope! not really anything alike!
I tried every spelling I could and could not get google translate to come up with the same meaning I kept getting seasonal fish lol
I used teh descriptions from Vanness' website
@@inksplat I see everyone has the same translation interesting
Too many blues for sure… I like syun-gyo, but I don‘t care for the sheen… and yellow inks are not my thing, so I probably won‘t get any of them.
Understandable! Yeah I really
Don’t understand the thought behind all the blues. 😂 I know it’s a popular ink color but still
