Overall, this was good, however you left out two pretty big things. One, Murphy wasn't the voice of Tom Servo at KTMA and the first season of MST3K: Josh Weinstein provided the voicework for that (you even played a clip of him at the end). You also said Bill Corbett was the voice of Crow T. Robot, which entirely misses how Trace Beaulieu was Crow's voice from KTMA through season 7. I'm afraid I'm going to have to sentence ScreenCrush to 24 hours of watching Manos: The Hands of Fate.
+Chad Kirk Ive watched that episode multiple times and I still can't tell you what the hell is happening in that movie. Mano's you can at least follow.
It, for instance, allowed me to watch Mac and Me, which I THOROUGHLY enjoy way more than E.T. (which it's supposed to be a rip off of that was funded by Mcdonalds).
Just before its height of popularity, I remember getting VIP tickets for a friend and myself for a live screening. Taped every episode, even the ones on KTMA. Good times.
You kind of forgot to mention the messed-up way they were screwed by the network. You see, when Comedy Central bought out The Comedy Channel, MST3K was Comedy Channel's flagship show, and their head honcho made sure to renew then for 3 more seasons as part of the deal. Despite it garnering huge ratings, the folks in charge hated supporting someone else's idea and canned the show as soon as possible. In fact, to this day whenever Comedy Central does a retrospective, they completely ignore the show that kept the company afloat during its troubled beginnings. This famously led to the resignation of Penn Gillette (of Penn & Teller fame) as the network's announcer.
Brendan Eichler and when Sci-Fi channel picked it up they were only allowed to show sci-fi, horror, and fantasy movies. Which fortunately does make up a good majority of cheesy movies but it did limit them still IMHO
Man you really glossed over Ton Servo's parts: Carousel Snack Dispenser, Money Lover Barrel Bank, Eveready Floating Lantern Hoods, C. More Bunz Doll Arms and Springs, Jerry Mahoney Ventriloquist Hands, Engine Block from a Talbot Toys Dune Buggy, Halloween Boo Bowl, Vacuformed Tyco Turbo Trains, and Foam Pipe Insulation. I made my own :)
I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority, but I never cared for the skits. I just wanted to see the riffing. I feel the same way about alot of RUclips reviewers who put skits around their review. Sometimes they're funny, more often they're not, and none of them are usually as entertaining as the review/riff itself.
jliller I agree. They have their good ones, but I think the majority just didn't land in comparison to the riffing. I do think the skits got better in the later seasons though.
I guess I not only think I know a lot about the show, but apparently know quite a lot more than the makers of this video. :P Bill Corbin was Crow's replacement voice after Trace left, no mention of the first Mad before TV's Frank. For a while Tom Servo had a different shaped head and I could go on and on. I'm from Minnesota and grew up watching the show and when Joel left the show it took me some time to warm up to Mike, but they are both great in the long run. I actually started crying when I started watching the first episode of the new show, just thinking about all the devotion going into bringing it back and stuff got to me. I hope it's a hit again.
My all time favorite episodes are a mix of Joel and Mike shows. I get that some folks have a preference, but they both brought something good to the show. The revival seasons were hit or miss at best though.
Yes, every casual fan knows that after the show was sold to Comedy Central, they were given $35K dollars per episode, and that the new seasons were started in early 2016 after a Kickstarter that was the largest for television and film. Common knowledge, really.
I hope screen crush could make a episode of any anime (like evangelion, Digimon and many more), twin peaks, saved by the Bell, Baywatch and other 90s shows
The silhouettes in the Cinematic Titanic logo you show at 4:18 appear to actually be the classes from Team Fortress 2 rather than the performers. What the heck?
THANNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKK-YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUU., i'm the HUGEST MST3K Fan., been that way since i watched it a lot on Comedy-Central back in the 90's., i even have DVD-BOXSETS., and a book about the series., i even have MST3K-The-Movie on DVD., yes i've seen The Sci-Fi-Channel Version., but i've not the NETFLIX Version., YET.,,
Was that first live show really in 1989? I was there for what I thought was the first live show where they did "World Without End" and I seem to remember it was more like summer of early fall of 1992 ... can't remember exactly. And I'm not talking about the Conventioconexpofestarama which was in what 1993 or 94? Sorry, the early 90s are kind of fuzzy for me ... :)Regardless, I'm pretty sure it was not in 1989 unless there was some super secret live show before the show even got popular and it was only shown in Minneapolis.
It always felt like the Netflix episodes were too dense with the riffing. Let the movie breathe a little! That said, I really liked some of the songs in the Netflix episodes.
The original run of the show was awesome but the revival sucked. Like I turned the first revival episode off after ten minutes it was so bad. If you actually enjoyed it, that tells me something about you.
It confuses and saddens me deeply that Joel is the oine behind the abortion that is the 11th season. They changed the theme, they changed the premise, they changed the voices of the bots and they made a fucking broadway musical out of the beginnning o the first eppisode.
Yup and it's also why me and my wife won't watch it. They don'thave any excuses for fucking upo so badly. They ev en gave it an overly complicated plot which it never needed before. The plot was always barely perceptiable it was so thin. You can't take a show with no budget, give it a budget then use that money to make porofessional looking sets and props that are professionally made to look crappy and home made. it doesn't work.
I still have a VHS tape of one of Jerry Seinfeld's earlier HBO specials and Joel has a cameo and also has a writing credit. (He was also on an episode of Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, or whatever it's called).
In the not too dis-tant fu-ture, next Sun-day A.D. There was a guy named Joel, who wasn't that fun-ny. Mike was way better. He didn't talk in a droll, monotone, half asleep sounding voice. And he didn't stand up/reach out to "touch the screen" as much as Joel did. And the other hosts?....not worth mentioning. Season 13 sucks. Crow's voice sounds like it belongs on a show made for 2yr. olds to watch. So annoying.
5.8 was only the amount they raised on Kickstarter. the remaining amount was raised outside of Kickstarter, so Kickstarter doesn't show it on their system, but it was still raised.
Still waiting to hear things I don't know about mst3k. This is less "mst" knowledge as you say in your info there than just obvious details about the show. click bait, anyone? smh
Yeah, I guess that’s why Mike’s run lasted for about nine seasons while Joel’s “resurrection” didn’t last nearly as long. Mike haters/Joel shills can make of that what what they want to or whatever makes them feel better, but I think that speaks for itself. Or maybe you can accept the fact that the new season sucked hairy mantits and Joel maybe wasn’t what made the show good in the first place.
Stan McSerr He was okay, but it just wasn't the same without Joel. I think some of the writers left around then too. I know Josh Weinstein did, and he was integral.
The same kind of people that hated Mike or Pearl will probably not like this, or the ones that liked Mike and didn't like Joel will hate this. However, people like me who like Joel, Mike, Dr Forrester, TV's Frank, Pearl, Bobo and Brain Guy will (and do) like the new show.
I still don't like Pearl. We are watching the new episodes and when Pearl showed up, my son said what I was thinking.... She looks like Hillary Clinton now! lol

Torgo: "Yyooou ccalled mmme?"
**commence theme music**
The riff or the actual movie?
Because nobody deserves that punishment.
ps238principal No make them watch The Castle of Fu Manchu. It's much worse.
Chad Kirk Naw, man. There is no movie worse than Invasion of the Neptune Men. Make `em watch THAT on a loop. WithOUT the riffs. ;)
+Chad Kirk Ive watched that episode multiple times and I still can't tell you what the hell is happening in that movie. Mano's you can at least follow.
MST3K proves that in some cases, piracy can be good for your franchise
It, for instance, allowed me to watch Mac and Me, which I THOROUGHLY enjoy way more than E.T. (which it's supposed to be a rip off of that was funded by Mcdonalds).
Keep circulating the tapes!
Just before its height of popularity, I remember getting VIP tickets for a friend and myself for a live screening. Taped every episode, even the ones on KTMA.
Good times.
Does this mean you have K03?
@@mergieismoronic You have the KTMA Episodes???
This was always a comfort show, I could just sit back and relax. Nothing real serious. Always loved it.
Proud owner of all episodes on Rhino and Shout except for 14 so far

Eh, at least that's thematically appropriate. The really dumb thing was demanding that they do storylines in the host segments.
Oh so that was their idea? I always thought that was when they jumped the shark.
And when they heard they were cancelled on the sci-fi channel they rebelled and riffed Hamlet.
Thank YOu!
I didn’t know that part!!!
Man you really glossed over Ton Servo's parts:

So, how would Joel have used any of those parts to control where the movies begin or end? Or should I really just relax?
Same
zoppie i vote to relax
WOW!! You know your stuff!
@@zoppie You should really just relax... XD
What a quality show! If an episode is in my top 50, then it's gold.
Love the 'Bill W.' credit, & casual references across many seasons.
Lol I noticed that too 😂
MST3K is my all-time favorite TV show.

The riffs are why I watch but the skits have always been hit or miss. They are usually pretty short though.
Sometimes I love the skits, sometimes I skip them. On RUclips it’s nearly a non-issue but I can see it being annoying when watching a broadcast.
I love the skits

I will forever call Infinity War "Thanos: Hand of fate!" and no one can stop me!!!!!
The Master would not approve. (Actually, he probably would).
Manos: hands of fate!
That movie was so bad...but it could have been good if they had a really good director on it. It did have some good ideas
"Bill Corbett, who was [ONE of the voices] of Crow T. Robot."
Accuracy is important.
(and Kevin was ONE of the voices of Tom Servo also)
Good post.
Good job SC! (I knew all of that info. But really great on catching people up!)

Well. that was completely underinformative. Any casual fan knows all this, and can fill in the gaps that it leaves.

I saw an episode of the netflix one and while I prefer the originals I think its pretty good.
Never really cared for bill's crow it was okay but trace's crow was just funny to me as the wisecracker.
I knew most of this already but that’s because I’m a crazy super-fan so I don’t blame u lol
And yet the most surprising thing about this video was that KTMA went bankrupt. Never heard about that.
This explains why a lot of those episodes can't be found and the bits that are there are very few.
It's not a lacrosse mask it's a Cooper XL7 Hockey Faceguard made by cooper canada
I know that it's a Hockey Faceguard because I built a replica of crow
Not gonna lie, they prolly wont, or i may not have heard, but i really hope a 3rd season of Netflix's MST3K comes around

The show went downhill after Joel left.. There were a few good Michael episodes, but it definitely wasn't the same.
I disagree. Mike did a very good job. Just because it wasn't the same doesn't make it bad, just different.
Stan McSerr He was okay, but it just wasn't the same without Joel. I think some of the writers left around then too. I know Josh Weinstein did, and he was integral.
Ryan, Josh left after the first season. He also played Dr. Lawrence Erhardt.
Stan McSerr Indeed. He ended up going to The Simpsons. Great writer.
Not to sound like Comic Book Guy, but actually that is a different Josh Weinstein. That is why he goes by J. Elvis Weinstein.
The new show looks terrible, Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt, ehhhh... no.
