Thanks @womackke, just did this with a paper clip to turn off a solid light on my 2005 sport... and it passed state inspection as a result. Don't want to think of how much that would've cost me if I hadn't come across this video!
Thank you. Worked perfectly fine on my ‘04 4Runner. I had purchased new monitors to go with my new BFGs and rims. I have always despised tpms on a vehicle you air down/up while off-roading. Simple easy and temporary. You can always just pull out the jump wire and plug it back in. I will be sending my $200 sensors back to Discount Tire Direct.
I Just now finished working on my 2005 Toyota 4 runner. I followed your instruction on how to bypass the module. It worked perfectly. Thank you very much.
Thank you womackke for posting this up. Pretty stunning you could manage this one handed. Couple of comments to help others along the way-should work for all 4th gen 4Runners-2003 through 2009 US model years. 2WD or 4WD should not matter. Should fix both TPMS modes of a flashing light and a steady on light. The thin wire issue-I used a twist tie (some refer to as bread wrappers) of solid wire stripped at both ends for the right thickness and easy insertability. This is much easier than trying to use 20 or 22 gauge wire made up of several strands twisted at each end. Also-as another person had commented-the wire inserts into the smallest round hole for each position 3 top and bottom. Get a good amount of wire slotted into each hole. Test the 'fix' by putting the key back in the ignition and the TPMS light will no longer light up even in ACC or start modes of the key. Then restore the compartment as it belongs and tighten up the Phillips head screw. My reference vehicle is a 06 V8 full time all wheel drive SR5 4Runner. Within that same compartment under the glovebox is the electronic 4 wheel drive computer. This makes the wire loom more bulky and a little more tightly attached to the compartment's interior. Thanks again womakke-it's people like you that help all of us out from having to reinvent the wheel so to speak....It's amazing the power of shared knowledge so easily accessible now with RUclips and the Internet!
2006 4Runner with this flashing light for last 18 months. I used a small piece of wire inserted into the front of the white connector to shout out the white/black and pink/black wires. My white connector had two sets of holes for each wire. Use the holes that the TPMS pins plug into to insert your jumper. Thanks, no longer an annoying flashing light.
Thanks! Had no idea that was under the Glove box. Came here casually wondering why my light has never came on. I'll have to look now! Doubt if it just burned out seeing folks have had them on for ten years! Interesting.
What about the rest of the wires that go in the Carmel colored box ? What is that box is it the tps box I seen another guy just put a connector in the wire and hook the box back up . Guess it don’t matter anything to get that light out and maybee it will help me get those others out too ! Thanks a bunch !
Great job and good to know. I have an 04 Highlander that I’m guessing might have the same module under the glove box. I’ll have to check. I know my Highlander does the monitoring by wheel speed and not tire pressure. I’m wondering if the same harness and wires exist on mine so I’ll have to check. Thanks for posting
Exactly please answer other peoples questions about the other wires does it have anything to do with airbags? Also I did what you mentioned which was improvement after connecting the 2 together in with the specified piece which didn’t work the first time then your video helped a bit my light went from blinking to solid light now how can I get it to go out completely? And are you sure that doesn’t need to be plugged in for all the other wires?
Cool, simple fix! So the brown/orange box under the glove box is just the TPMS monitor? I doesn't do anything else? I'm asking since you didn't plug the connector back in and just want to be very sure that won't disable anything else.
Good to know the simplest way without cutting anything. The best method so far. So, just jump the wires from whatever 2 cables are and ignored the TPMS sensor module completely. Do you get some error if you plug the OBD2 device on your car? I have 2 yearly Car safety check, and If it popout in OBD2 scanner, that sucks.
@@womackke Thanks, I will do that on my Auris/Corolla hybrid 2015 station wagon. However, it is a pain in the nuts, the TPMS module location is on the roof under the headliners. Not worth to try yet until I really need it.
I did this as described in video. The tpms light did go off. Only to now have the MAINT light come on. Probably due to not having the plug going into its receiver? What now? ‘04 Limited 4WD
That may be because yours is 4wd. Try jumping the wire on the backside of the plug and plugging it back in. Please let me know if that works because a couple of people have mentioned that happening.
Hi. I have 2004 Toyota 4Runner 4.0 V6 4WD SR5. Will this system work for my car? My tire pressure sensor light is ON for 6 years already. Very annoying. Thanks for help.
@@condor5635 - I jumpered on the side where the wires go into the connector. I guess I’d call it the back as opposed to doing it through the front, like the video shows. Hope that makes sense.
@womackke : Do you happen to know what the gauge of wire is used for the jumper wire? Is this something that’s available at an auto parts store or Home Depot?
Yes just leave it unplugged. It's the brown box that does all the wireless tire sensor receiving and computing. We are simply tapping into the plug and saying everything is OK the same way it would.
Ended up splicing into the white and pink wires with t-tap connectors and that worked for me on my 2007 4Runner. The plug has to remain plugged in to avoid warning lights
I had the tires on my '08 4Runner 4WD rotated by Discount Tire recently, and a day later the tpms light began blinking for a minute or so upon start-up, then remained on. This was different than the solid light only indicating a low tire; the manual says this indicates a problem with the system. Each time I started the vehicle, it would blink for a minute, then remain on. I checked my tires and found them inflated to 38 psi, rather than the 32 psi they were before Discount got their hands on it. I deflated them to the correct pressure (32 psi), started the vehicle, the light blinked for about 3 seconds and then went out. Those folks presumably are experts where tires are concerned, the inflation information is plastered all over the door, and of course it's available on all their computers. What is so freaking hard about making sure the tires are inflated to the correct pressure? Anyway, maybe this will help someone.
I can't understand that either, unless they over-inflate them to seat the bead & never bother to relieve the pressure. Every time I get tires back from a store (Peerless, etc), either new tires or puncture repair, they are jacked to 45psi or something. 😲 I thought "I must have a defective gauge," but no -- cross checked four gauges against each other and against a professional dial gauge -- all w/in 1PSI of each other.
Watch the video 3x. Complete in less than a minute. Challenge was hopefully I had a perfect fit wire. Strip ends fold over & stick in the proper pin hole. 😉
