You seem to succeed with every species that you try to breed, I'm sure that if you put two tins of salmon in a tank they would spawn.

man i transfered mt big girls to their own 40 gal breeder and instantly 4 males are rampant running after my big bertha!!!! I said Bertha go runnnn!!!! lol. i had no clue mating would look this stressful on my big girls :( 4 little males are just zooming with her everywhere she goes. Then they go to baby the real fat one and she said oh hell no haha she hid fast. Thank so much for showing me what this loooks like no other video does!

I was not really trying to breed them, I just put some of those blackskirt tetras that someone gave me into a tank with some Dalmatian mollies and an albino pleco with no plants and some natural gravel that I found.
I noticed a little fry the other day! And just today I was wondering what all those little things were floating around in there. I thought they were little snails. Thanks for the video.

    Hi Mark,
After seeing your awesome video i wanted to try my luck at breeding then. However i couldn't at the time due to various reasons.
Now I've finally got some really big size black widow tetras long fin females and I'm going to try and breed them with the glo tetra widow males counterparts .
    My questions are
    1. How long do the actual spawning activity takes place and when should i remove the parents?
    2. If they breed today and there are still other egg up females would the males breed again the day after? I'm using a breeding trap so the egg fall underneath safe away from the parents.
    3. I'm a bit confused but did you say to keep a dim light on the parents to trigger spawning behaviour?
    4. Are the eggs light sensitive?
Do i need to hatch eggs in darkness or subdued lighting and when can i revert to normal lighting?
    5. Could the fry eat micro worms as first food instead of infusoria?
6 . How fast do the fry take to reach maturity?
7.Do you have an update on these black widow fry?
    8. At what age could the fry easily accept live bbs?
Any other advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I have had my black widows release their eggs this morning in my community tank (I doubt any of them will make it) but given they are happy to breed I am going to set up a breeding tank. The answers to these questions would be great! Especially when the parents need to be removed, or more when do the eggs actually get fertilised?

So after a year of watching you and Fishman building things on YT I've finally started building my own reef tank! It's basically a 3 chamber all in one style tank that's built on the dimensions of a 20gallon long (12"×12"×30"). I have a few possible setups for my filter chambers and would appreciate your input. I have 3 chambers(each is 4"×6"×12") obviously the first chamber will be mechanical/biological filtration, so that leaves 2 empty chambers for either micro algae or a skimmer and the return pump. Would you do a refugium style setup with Chaetomorpha and copepods in the 2nd chamber, and just a return pump in the 3rd? Or a nano skimmer in the 2nd chamber and GFO and carbon in the 3rd with the return pump? Or Chaetomorpha and copepods in the 2nd, and a really small nano skimmer in the 3rd chamber with a return pump, or use a hang on back skimmer and chamber 2&3 for chaeto & copepods? Also I plan to use a slow flow return pump for the filtration (so as not to suck all my copepods through the pump constantly) and use wave makers in the display for the water movement. I hope this isn't too confusing, thank's a bunch Mark! Keep up the great work!

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  5 лет назад +1

Defo go with the chaetomorpha I use to also use miracle mud it's great stuff for micro organisms to live and grow. I'll be using it in my coral room sump. And a slow return is also good. Like you said use wave makers for flow. Existing stuff. Fishmans channel is great he builds some awesome stuff. A man after my own heart.

It’s been 3 years since this video.. but I hope you can help me. Our male and female spawned all day yesterday. This morning when I woke the female was laying on her side in some plants at the surface barely breathing.. she still looks a little plump.. it seems like she is dying. Is this common? What causes this? I’ve had this happen once before about 3 years ago..

My favorite thing about this video is that you called it just like a soccer match.
I started feeding my entire Amazon tank blood worms and fly food, and the corys are spawning constantly. My two black skirt females now look like basketballs. I think they are pregnant, especially after looking at your fish.
Any advice on ember tetras? I have a beautiful, fully planted, single species tank. Maybe I separate the sexes, there, too?

I also have rosy barbs, they are easier to tell apart the males from the females. And the rosy barbs have breed lots of times, but this time I won’t let them eat their eggs but but try to grow/hatch the fry’s .

Yes they are . It's a cruel practice where they inject dye in to the fish. Hard to sex when young but as they get older the females will fatten up and if you watch them you'll see the males becoming more dominant ok. Ide go for for 4.

Once you notice a female has eggs, how long until she should drop them? I don't know which of my 3 is male ( I think 2 male to 1 female)... I'm so lost because my dad was the one who helped me with everything fish...he died in 2016 so I'm on my own with the internet! I want these babies to make it but. Afraid I'm going to do something wrong. I know she has eggs because she's very chunky suddenly! I've noticed them all "fighting" and assumed it was breeding behavior but I don't have a safe spot I don't think! I'm so stressed 😞 I also have a pleco in their tank I'm afraid will suck up the eggs!!
