Avenged Sevenfold was formed in 1999. They actually started out as a metal-core band and had lots of screaming. One of the reasons they are so popular is because of their musical versatility. Everyone in the group brings their own little touch of style to the table and it just works out so beautifully. I highly recommend you check out their entire discography. Each album is vastly different from each other and has something for just about anybody

some of there earlier music was some of the proper rock music like Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, Afterlife, Nightmare and Buried Alive are more on the heavier side of things

The funny part about him saying Shadow sounds like Metallica is, he even said that regrets singing the way he did and felt like he was getting too close to Metallica's sound and didn't want to seem like a ripoff. I never heard it until he said that.

this band is the pinnacle of melodic metalcore, and they have a large number of ballads as well. Dear God and Heretic are personal favourites.
Metal core is interesting. I think of Darkest Hour, Light This City and Unearth.
