    Hi Matt
    Fellow sawdust botherer here in Loburn.
    Great work on a sensible comparison of the bits.
    Im just converting to the Kutzall discs after many years on just sanding discs and grinders, Dremel, handtools and hand sanding on unusual furniture and gunstocks.
    All the best
    Bruce J.

      I take it your getting kutzalls from Carbatec in Christchurch. Just about went to Loburn the other week with that fire but got sent to the Amberly one and then the Swananoa one the next day. Nice to see some rain today. Cheers for watching

    Thanks Matt, I was hoping to tune in and see the live broadcast, I had it marked. However this was a very interesting experiment, I have both of these burrs and find them excellent top quality.

      No real clear winners between the two. Probably just personal preference in the end. Cheers for watching 👍

    Twenty years ago my Dremel went in a drawer because i could work just as fast with a Sheetrock knife. Those two bits might convince me to pull it out again.

    Thanks for the comparison. I use both Kutzall and Saburrtooth burrs (although nowhere near your skill level). I agree that these burrs are generally interchangeable, broadly speaking. My perspective is that Kutzall burrs are of slightly better quality, but where Saburrtooth has a huge advantage is in the wide variety of burrs they offer--far more shapes and styles than Kutzall. It's easy to be the best when there's no competition. As for durability, I haven't seen much of a drop-off with Saburrtooth in comparison to Kutzall, but again, I don't carve nearly as much as you.

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  Год назад +1

      Yeah, I totally agree. Sometimes, it just boils down to which is more convenient to buy.

      I was going to type out a comment, but you kind of nailed what I wanted to say. I have a few of the 2 inch disk and cup burrs and I wish it was easier to find Saburrtooth for me.

    Both bits have a place I think. I'm just getting into a bit of wood carving and don't have any good bits or other carving tools like knives. The bits I have are too fine to take much wood off. I'll be getting some more aggressive bits. Seems these two bits are useful depending on how fast you'd want to remove the wood.

    Hi matt, love the videos. I'm just starting out carving. I wanted to know if you ever carved on a wood slice.? Is it possible? Would you be interested in doing a video on it. Thanks for all the videos.

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  Год назад +1

      Yes you can! carve on a wood slice. I am taking it that you mean you will be carving a wood slice into end grain, yes this can be done but is it would be hard to do. It would be ok if the wood is soft, and it would depend on the pattern as well as some areas would be quite fragile. I wouldnt do a video for these reasons. Sorry about that
