I remember when Ultimate was just days away from coming out, and I listened to this song non-stop, mainly because I was set on maining Ness in Ultimate, because I had just beaten Earthbound a month prior (and loved it), and because it represented how I felt about Smash 4's death. I was happy to see Ultimate come out, but Smash 4, a game that gave me many memories, was on it's way out.
Some people say that this version sounds a bit too upbeat for their liking, but to me this song is really personal. I practically grew up with the SSB4 and when I chose to play in the stage Onnet for the first time and heard this banger it became my favorite song in the SSB4 soundtrack. Sure, this song is a hit or miss and it isn’t really for everyone... But you can say the same thing with maining Ness.

Earthbound is such a magical game. Coming from someone who didn’t grow up with the SNES and someone who doesn’t even like RPG games besides Pokémon and Fire Emblem
What I just noticed is that each of the eight melodies here has a different sound, which are based off of the sources of the melody. Like the second one is played by a flute, which is supposed to represent Laura the canary. Or the seventh is electronic beeps, similar to EVE
As much as I love earthbound and mother 3. I gotta say I like this version of smiles and tears than the original. As much as like the original it just kinda bummed me out. I know it's kinda the point but I just like this one a bit better. It reminds me that no matter how old ANY OF US get we can all still enjoy our inner child
What makes this remix of Smiles and Tears so amazin’ is that it has both the Mother 1 and Earthbound Eight Melodies, though the former is very subtle and easy to miss unless you listen to the song carefully.
