This isn't about the realism...its about learning a new technique, elaborating on it, and making it your own! Even if you only learn a bit about workflow from this video, it is better than no video at all. Where would we be without these people who help us so much! Obviously 1million+ views means something about his contribution. -- We appreciate your hard work bra! Keep it up!
Very nice effect, I can tell you DID spend a lot of time tweaking things to sell the shot! I like you method of shortening the shadow and the suspension sagging during the lift really adds to the realism. Great job!
Thanks for this man, I'm familiar with sony vegas and just installed after effects for the first time and I was getting frustrated with how stupid all the other tutorials are! You explained exactly what needed to be explained like a real human, thanks again.
I remember watching this a year or two ago and never understanding technically what you were doing. Fast forward to the present, 8 videocopilot tutorials and over a dozen youtube ones to boot and everything you said makes perfect sense lol great tut, im a little slow to the party but better late then never.
Great job, the only thing missing IMO is: when you lift the car, the rear part of it should go down a little bit, because the rear shocks are holding all the weight of the car, that will add a little more realism, that's the only thing I will add. Anyway, thanks for the great tutorial.
This is an excellent tutorial and serves the purpose of such, however once you guys master the basics shown here you will need to go MUCH farther on your own to take it to professional levels. Some pointers. This REAL. Lift something that is difficult for you so it really looks like you are lifting a heavy car. Consider where exactly on the car would you lift it so the bumper does not come of for example. Also, actually lift the car for real so your reflections, shadows and motion work.
Cool Hommie, Just now getting into After Effects! I'm a risk taker who jumps in and this will be what I'll try first in After Effects. I'm sure I'll be reaching out to you soon.
@braproductions Perhaps RedRain thought he was going to learn how to lift a car for real! Great tutorial Brother, very useful, informative, clearly spoken and yes it's fun! Many thanks! I shot some video this afternoon and will give this a try, can't wait!
Nice job man. Only advice I could give is take more time along the hood.windshield and do reflections based on background (which I know you know how to do based on this video) Other than that, It's pretty sweet. Keep up the good work. Props for making tuts/tips videos.
Nice work man!! I am not yet very good with adobe. But i learn every time from this nice tutorials. Thanks. A tutorial with explosions would be usefull I think. Greetz from holland
I think it would look better if the reflects in the car also moved when you pick up the car, and if the shadow matched your shadow and your arms. But I've never used after effects, i don't know how complex it would be :P But I liked your video :)
Well you did a very nice job with the shadows and windows and you were talking about the realism of this but it seems you kinda forgot that ppl will not look at the windows (at least not at the first sight) they're gonna look at you and lets be honest there could be a bit more work done with the hand that lifts the car. Overall nice effect!
@QuanChung45 Go to the top, Under "Composition" Click on "Composition Settings" And at the bottom of the window that pops up, there should be a option to change the duration, You can change it to how long you clip(s) is/are...
Awesome tutorial. I would have taken it one step further and replaced the reflections on the foreground glass so I can animate it. Because if you think about it, the reflection on that glass should move a little when the car is lifted.
Great job only a few things I would point out. The reflection in the car window didn't change, also the rear tire and suspension didn't compress from the added weight, but still a great job!
You should use a car jack to actually lift the car so that the lighting on the car changes, then edit it out. You might not get as much lift but I think it would make for an interesting and more believable effect.
maybe for the practical part - take a bord as long as the car and lift that up in the shot so you have yometing in your hands and you have a reference! nicely done!
dude awesome tut.. there has to be a relatively easy way to maybe add an opaque layer or something to make the shine and shadow shift appropriately on the car. also is there any particular reason why you used a video of the car as opposed to a still image? i mean i would think it would be much easier to isolate in photoshop. i'm kinda new to ae and i'm thinking about using this technique.
i thought it was good !! good job only the reflection on the hood still had the windows but ive never done this so i cant judge but u thught it was good!!!thums up
Dude that is really awesome! That looked pretty good. I don't do special effects but I write music for films and stuff. If you need some help with music or know someone that needs a composer, please let me know because I would be happy to help.
Cool tutorial... Should probably try and figure out a way to adjust the lighting on the car depending on how your scene is lit. That's the only thing that seems off when watching the final result.
Great tutorial I have a different problem. We study the division of cells in the laboratory using time lapse imaging. I am interesting to track the cells as they are dividing. Ex: 1 Cell diving into two, those two cells dividing into 4, and four into 8, and 8 into 16 etc. I want to track them using arrows like 1 arrow becoming two, two to 4, 4 arrows to 8 and 8 to 16 etc. Is that a possibility with the motion tracking feature? Thanks again for your help.
i didnt even saw the tuturial (really i was just searching cool things) and the finished job is great. its not as great as the movies effects but your not james cameron, so its good
you just need to work on the reflection in the windows. find some landscape and layer it into the window after taking the original out, and all you have to do is keep it level.
Sure there are times when sarcasm can be difficult to recognize in text form but for the most part it can be easily recognized when you consider the context of the conversation and apply a little common sense.
I wasnt gonna sub until i saw more tuts. And then you said subscribe and ill make more tuts. And i didnt waste any time not subbing lol. This tut was really good although you didnt really get in depth, you said what needed to be said.
You got the wheels down, that looks realistic, but the reflection on the side, hood and windows of the car is what's left, there is no animation in those reflections. Even throwing in the reflection of the car going up in the windows of the house would make it even more believable. Good job overall.
Hi. I understood your directions but since I don't have After Effects I'm not familiar with the buttons/commands you need to click on in order to preform each task. Which leads me to a question.... Have you worked with EffectsLab Pro, created by FXHome ? If so ... how do you feel about it ? I was going to purchase "EffectsLab and CompositeLab" from FXhome butthinking about biting bullet and get After Effects. I'm a beginner and thought Effects Lab might take less time to learn. Thanx,Eric
Braproductions ~ How did you learn all of this? am only 14 I have after effects at school all I wanna do is make movies and other stuff on on after effects got any tips?
Thought the effect was great. Next time though you should make the reflection of the background thats on the windshield and hood move when the car is in the air. Otherwise it looks great. Keep it up.
@braproductions Fun is great, but it's more fun if it looks real. To be honest, though, you need a 3d model or a ton of pictures to make it convincing, because the car will always be at some angle to the camera in some way, and as you pick up one end that angle has to change.
@ComptonAssDaniel Actually yeah they should. When you put a car in park there is still a little play left in the forward and back direction. which is why when you're on a hill. Depending on which dircetion you are facing the car will roll a lil bit to the Park gear locks. At the most i would say that his hands look like they are slipping underneath the car and that is killing the effect. But Hey good Job.
So true. It's funny how some people struggle to recognize sarcasm on youtube comment. My guess is that they don't read much so they have trouble picking up on it in text form.
Except the fact the windows reflection doesn't change like it should. You can get that effect using a semi-transparent mask of the trees and house in the background onto the windows
cool but to make it more of a pro you got to do something about the shine on the car while u carry it the light on the car should move u know cause of the reflection of the sun
This isn't about the realism...its about learning a new technique, elaborating on it, and making it your own!
Even if you only learn a bit about workflow from this video, it is better than no video at all.

Finally a tutorial that starts with showing what it actually wants to teach you! Well done!
I remember watching this a year or two ago and never understanding technically what you were doing. dude this is crazy.
I suggest to add car window reflection on it
plus some action essentials.(smoke or fog?)
But this is simply AWESOME
Nice effect. I love the rotation of the back wheel. Your web is now in my favourites. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Realistic and very easy and fun to do!Thanks for posting the tutorial!
This is so cool! I cant believe how real this looks! Awesome!!!
Excellent! Great idea for getting our creative juices running.
Well planned tutorial, on track. Thanks
Great job, the only thing missing IMO is: when you lift the car, the rear part of it should go down a little bit, because the rear shocks are holding all the weight of the car, that will add a little more realism, that's the only thing I will add. Anyway, thanks for the great tutorial.

Great effect! 4,5 stars. As soon as you will animate the reflection in the car window, the rating will change to 5.
i work with photoshop alot so i can imagine how much harder this is, pretty cool man!
Nice work man!! I am not yet very good with adobe. But i learn every time from this nice tutorials. Thanks. A tutorial with explosions would be usefull I think.

well done mate thats quality im downloading this programme as we speak :)
@QuanChung45 Go to the top, Under "Composition" Click on "Composition Settings" And at the bottom of the window that pops up, there should be a option to change the duration, You can change it to how long you clip(s) is/are...
Great Video...Highly informative..I Watched it all of the way through.
Very good brother, thanks for sharing... Muy buen trabajo hermano... gracias por compartir con todos..

i think this guy deserves a like anyway without even watching the video after 40 seconds... it took him 10 hours to do this
The lighting and reflections on the car don't change when the car moves. This is the main detail keeping the effect from seeming real.
maybe for the practical part - take a bord as long as the car and lift that up in the shot so you have yometing in your hands and you have a reference!
nicely done!

awesome!! I want that program! lol.. I did a little 3D modeling.. and that uses the same terms as this.. like parenting and animate
i thought it was good !! good job only the reflection on the hood still had the windows but ive never done this so i cant judge but u thught it was good!!!thums up
Your Video and Tutorial Are Great! Thanks for sharing the info.
10 hours on this ?!? MysteryGuitarMan takes 10 hours to make a full video with much more AMAZING effects, but thanks anyway. This helped alot!
Dude that is really awesome! That looked pretty good. I don't do special effects but I write music for films and stuff. If you need some help with music or know someone that needs a composer, please let me know because I would be happy to help.
wow, incredible after effect stuff !!!
Now all you need to do is change the reflections on the car! The wheels moving is a nice touch though. Well done.
great job you are great is a very nicely done effect congratulations
Cool tutorial... Should probably try and figure out a way to adjust the lighting on the car depending on how your scene is lit. That's the only thing that seems off when watching the final result.
Pretty good - nicely done. Only thing is the reflections on the car windows need to be disguised/darkened or something. All the same, nice idea!
thanks for the tutorial. it confused me a bit, but I got it down.
very good I really liked it well done man!!!!
Great tutorial

nice, good work with the weels
convincing effect, thanks for the tutorial
This is a great way to get jacked without any physical exercise! Thanks Alex your the best!
That's really cool, nice work!
i didnt even saw the tuturial (really i was just searching cool things) and the finished job is great. its not as great as the movies effects but your not james cameron, so its good
thats pretty amazing pal which adobe after effects are you using

THAT IS WONDERFUL YOU DID A SOMETHING GREAT i LOVE IT,
dude this is awesome thanks for sharing
I remember following this tutorial 6 years ago :))
Looks awesome thanks man!

very nice! 10 hours that's a great "time lapse" ;)
Cool tutorial!
Well done :)
wow this is actually much easier than i thought, especially if your looking for cheesy effects ;)
I like this tutorial, besides the windows its great tut.
I think, this is cool for beginner users in after effects.. they should try this. .

hey men your video is very good
what After Effects system is this? cs5?
great job! well done
Braproductions ~ How did you learn all of this? am only 14 I have after effects at school all I wanna do is make movies and other stuff on on after effects got any tips?
A bit beyond me, but as you say, there are some very useful tips and tricks. Thanks.
nice. just a few adjustments on the shadow and maybe make the reflections on the car move and you'll be special effects master.
Thought the effect was great. Next time though you should make the reflection of the background thats on the windshield and hood move when the car is in the air. Otherwise it looks great. Keep it up.
Love it! Thanks man!

awesome work:)
the only one video which looks realistic (especially the rear wheel )
That is so interesting, tell me more!
Great job.... Greg
nice work!
You Are Really Good!
You Should Work On Some Film Editing or SOmething !
@ComptonAssDaniel
Actually yeah they should. When you put a car in park there is still a little play left in the forward and back direction. which is why when you're on a hill. Depending on which dircetion you are facing the car will roll a lil bit to the Park gear locks. But Hey good Job.
Great Job !!! I like it
Hey guys, whats'up, it's our sucker from bra productions :-)
Very cool. good luck
So true. It's funny how some people struggle to recognize sarcasm on youtube comment. My guess is that they don't read much so they have trouble picking up on it in text form.
great vid thanks man
reflections never change!
You have the most amazing username
vry nice tutorial bhai.
u need after effects to lift a car?
great vid btw ;)
Nice non-tutorial tutorial. I never would have thought of the wheel thing or the windows.
good job man.. like your tutorial! now post a video of you actually picking up a car lol ^_^
Except the fact the windows reflection doesn't change like it should. You can get that effect using a semi-transparent mask of the trees and house in the background onto the windows
GREAT JOB KEEP IT UP! I SUBBED
good tutorial
@ScottFlicks that is exactly what i am saying, it may be done is motion 5 but it would be a lot more work just grab the trial for AE and fina a serial
The only bad thing about this effect is that the reflections on the car never change. Everything else looks good.
cool but to make it more of a pro you got to do something about the shine on the car while u carry it the light on the car should move u know cause of the reflection of the sun
Thank you good sir!
