- There are rifles of many types and not all can be as tactical as semi-auto sporting rifles, so in this video I saw a cheap and simple solution incase you and your collection are limited to hunting rifles.

I agree, with one exception. The rifle should also be multifunction, versatile, and preferably compatible. I have both the Mossberg MVP Scout in 308 which uses AR-10 and M1A mags. I also have a Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 which uses standard AR-15 mags. This way I don't have to reconfigure my carrier and most importantly, am compatible with others in my group. Both weapons are scoped and perfectly accurate out to 600yd plus. They are as light as my AR-15, so long haul carry is no issue... I also have a 10rnd mag mounted on the buttstock of each (velcro attached mag pouch), should I be separated from the rest of my equipment... You may want to look into Jeff Cooper's Scout Rifle theory with the modern twist.
My channel covers this
I didn’t mind that vid. Subscribed. Most Americans seem to be of the opinion that if you don’t have an AR15 you’re unarmed or or they’ll be involved in a home invasion or in a running gun battle and need 6 to 8 30 round mags. Makes America sound like a dangerous place. This is a sensible video and just because you’ve lost your AR 🙄 doesn’t mean you’re unarmed it just means you’re better prepared mentally.
In Australia semi auto rifles and shotguns as well as pump actions are not permitted but oddly enough we can have pump action rifles which is about the closest you can get to a semi auto for a fast follow up shot, the Remaining 7600 serine are hugely popular here and hugely expensive as well. Anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000, bloody ridiculous prices. They are very 4 MOA at 400 metres is not difficult. They weren’t very popular in America probably due to the fact that you can have semi auto’s.fortunately I’m old I’m old enough to have grown up in a time that in some states there were minimal to no restrictions, no license, no registration, walk into a gun shop prove you were over 18 pay for it and walk down the street to the car and no one batted an eye.
Great video! Versatility is crucial especially on a budget. I also believe that a lot of people base their social status on the type of rifle they have and are stating that bolt action is outdated etc etc. I say be proficient in whatever you have and learn how to adapt to any weapon that may come your way!
Precisely! Thank you for watching I couldn't have explained it any better 👍
Hit like just for the ripping bass riff at the opening of the vid. Thanks for the SHTF review. Not enough of these.
I have a Mossberg mvp patrol rifle in 308win, takes AR10 mags, or M14/M1A1 mags, extremely versatile weapon, threaded 16 inch barrel, lightning trigger, love that gun.
New Bergara Wilderness Sierra looks good but they went with AICS mags for 223. Wylde chamber and AR style mags would have been a barn burner for me.
A quality bolt gun and the appropriate pack and accessories will serve you well.
I never actually considered doing that, it makes sense. When I go hunting I normally only have one extra mag and its out of reach in the pack on my back. Good thinking!
Thanks man, Im hoping to do a more thorough video on this exact load out as time goes on.
I thought no one else would think of this but me glad you made a vid on this topic
I hope I covered the reasons well enough, thanks for watching!
06 is outstanding for anything you would need for survival
My dad seconds that notion
.308
I don't have a semiautomatic rifle because I can't afford one. I have a bolt action .270 that I bought used years ago and it's very accurate. It doesn't have removable magazines so I don't have to be concerned about that. My backpack has a flashlight, some Paracord, a compass, a skinning knife, a pencil and paper, some waterproof matches, a couple Bic lighters, some fatwood and tinder in a waterproof container, a tarp and a 38 caliber handgun with 20 rounds. If I needed to head out for some reason I could grab that pack and my rifle and go.
Your comment captures the very element of readiness and versatility. Thanks for watching and commenting. Also sounds like an awesome set up.
Listen, the best gun is the gun you got! For real.. because if a fire arm is not available, illegal in your area, or too expensive then it's completely useless to you.
Thank you for your advise. I am in Canada and they have just taken away most of the semi-automatic rifles options. Many a AR are at the bottom of a Canadian lake.
Anytime! Adapt and overcome. Canada needs to fight like hell and get their rights back. So unfortunate, and Canada has some really deep lakes too. 😯
Well I would say dive down and get some but idk
@@reaperhunter7297 naw too deep. Maybe submarine?
@@MinimalistOutdoors yeah that would work I think
@@reaperhunter7297 😂👍
Just got a TC Compass II Compact in 223/556. Great idea! Need to pick up a few extra mags for it. Video coming this weekend! Keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy for the feedback! Yeah grab them mags while you can, congrats on your new rifle. I look forward to your video drop
I have a good many bolt action rifles and semi autos as well I’m all confident with ,but my choice is my browning A bolt medallion and it’s a good rifle in .308 and I can’t complain about it
I have shot many guns in my short life but I would literally trust my life to my .243 Ruger before any other gun for shtf I have always had my setup with 3mags plus one 10 round 308 mag as a holder but recently have expanded in last two years to 6 mags a 10 round stock holder a sling with 6 round holders instead of 3 and I use small mag pouches for a Glock but fits my magazine no problem I carry a couple smoke grenades real ones not firework crap although I've lit a few cheap fireworks ones like the 5min stick which is quite smokey two would be comparable to a milspec but yes people underestimate a bolt action but I personally can hit a target at 400 yards regularly with poly tip 55 grain and I've anchored deer at 300 yards with 120gr Winchester and it may not sound like alot but I'm proud of my skill after years of practicing especially where I live in high populated area and two ranges nearby I do my best I get better as time goes on and the more I shoot, My Ruger set up all in all current is still less then 1k for the budget conscious and half was the gun and a 1/4 the scope I don't wear body armor I wear a tactical vest but I personally will take mobility over armor tactical fanny packs are great as well especially if u need to drop it gear to run quicker life or death a tactical fanny pack can have ur essentials that can save ur butt
Man, I was bummed when I lost mine in that boating accident too...oh well, the world is safer now
LOL!
Thanks for making this video. I've been searching for this topic for a while now. I bought into the scout rifle concept. There are plenty of videos citing the features but with no practical use. I'm looking to validate my gear: side arm, ammo count and carry method, knife, axe, compact survival bow, compass, Constantina(spell check?) Wire cutters. Looking forward to your follow up video.
Hey! Anytime, if you'd like I can make a follow video about the things I carry for my survival kit, in addition to this rifle. Scout rifle concept is a super strong one, there is nothing obsolete about bolt action load outs or forward mounting optics. The load out I carry is super easy to carry, stow away, and use. My bug out back country rifles alternate between my Henry 45-70 and the 223 in this video, my side are is .44 mag revolver in OWB holster standard load out of 40 rounds in speed loaders. Gear I have dryer lint pouch, Ferro rod, fixed blade knife, tomahawk, sharpening stone and tool grade file, 550 cord, compass, freezer bags, and a break barrel .410 shotgun for small game. I'm in the middle of moving right now, but I promise you I will do a follow up video now is the best time to do a video about because our well-being in the country is becoming more and more uncertain. I'll have a video about it late January 😊👍 appreciate your support my friend
@@MinimalistOutdoors thanks for your speedy reply. Subscribed now
@@blkrod2549 anytime! Thanks for your support 👍
Not just your country mate, the whole free world has gone mad.
Sorry for your loss , hope nobody was hurt in that boating accident
Thank you! And thankfully no one was hurt.
I have a ghillie suite in my shtf kit. I have mini 14 I've accurized it . My long gun is a Remington 783 26"heavy barrel 243 . With the Laminate stock. It's pretty accurate. I mean it's no M-24 but it will work. I just subscribed also .
That sounds like a badass kit, and you never have to worry about ammo availability too, those rounds are common and effective! Thanks for the subscription bud!! I need all the help I can get 👍
Roger that
@@223dmr7 spread the word about my channel it's taking hits by RUclips they are kicking back my watched hours so close to being monetized
Will do brother
mine is a Rugger American in 7.62x39 fast accurate and deadly ... I the same chest rig setup that my SKS uses
That is also a very good rig!
Extremely good rig
If you have designed this loadout as SHTF, add some IFAK, or other pouch with medicine, at least tourniket or bandage
if i have to bug out or walk home all i want is a rifle tough enough to make it and accurate enough and light a possible,i will be of stealthy hiding mode the whole time as i want to be unseen as possible
I don't know if you'll see this but where did you get that backpack set up from
It was my own idea, I got it from Amazon black hawk brand
@@MinimalistOutdoors is that all one piece
@@ronaldhuff8972 the back pack and harness part is one piece but the magazine pouches I bought separately
In my opinion bolt, lever and pump action operated firearms are the ultimate shtf weapons. Just think about it: in a shtf situation, with no medical support readily available, gunfights should be ALWAYS avoided. A battle ready semiautomatic rifle will give the operator some overconfidence about engaging
i agree. i think most conflict is avoided regardless 👍
Just hang in there brother the revival is here. Restoration is on the horizon.
I couldn't agree more man, it really is, evil is rooted so deep in our country and the reason why it seems like it's winning is because it's rearing its ugly head under force by patriots that demand answers and results. 👍 keep winning like you are, we are on the right side of history.
Hey, remember when I said restoration is on the horizon? It's here . Stay strong, my friend
No backup iron sights?
Unfortunately no, it would be great if it did. My logic is anything close enough (12 feet - 75 yards) for iron sights where I do not have to be as precise, that is what I'll use my side arm for.
I keep my 16” Ruger American Ranch in 556 handy for a variety of purposes, including for packing for whatever reason. I now rely primarily on iron sights, which I bought from Nodakspuds who advertises on RUclips. I keep a 2.5 prism handy, but I love and prefer the iron sights. They give the rifle a stronger look, and it’s more capable with irons as far as I’m concerned.
Ruger American Ranch 556
Another good choice 👍
Me too, love mine, especially after installing iron sights.
@@JASmith-oy8db I’ve been thinking about installing the iron sights on my Ruger American Ranch 556. How’s the accuracy?
Nothing wrong with bolt guns.
