Legit my first experience with this song was laying in bed at 2am, and looking out the window after a year long relationship ended. Wanted some nostalgia so I listened to the emo playlist on spotifiy, most of the songs made me smile and laugh when they came on but this one pulled me out of that. Made me feel like I need to live life, so the band name is on the nose. 10/10, great for MTV teen drama moments of staring at the moon while a single tear rolls down your cheek. Good memory.
My thought was this is Modest Mouse multiplied by Cursive and it’s fucking great. If you like this check out Special Explosion on the same label. So good… and Foxing too.
Whenever you find home If everyone belongs there Feeling our bodies breaking down Just trying to find a way out To a city so big that it is bound To keep your secrets Pack your seats high Saying goodbye to your close friends Making some promises like “I’ll see you again” So when will I see you again? (new apartment complexes rising) I know a few chords that could make you miss me They ring and decay in this garage every few days Just trying to figure out this beat So if you want to come back east, (take down your pictures pack your belongings. Then maybe you can help me find it If your arms are just felt Then when you hold me I’ll feel held We’ll sink in these notes It never felt like this, it never felt like this Tell me we belong here If your arms become smoke Then I’ll have nothing left to hold We’ll dissipate with these notes It shouldn’t feel like this, it shouldn’t feel like this If everyone belongs here
This band is so fuckin great. The lyrics are amazing, along with the imperfect vocals, yet fantastic flow and sound. This band really is meaningful. This'll be the shit that 15 years from now I'll look back on and get nostalgic about thinking of how great this band made my life. True talent and beautiful sound.
You have a good concept, and I agree with you fully. This band will be one of the many that when I'm old, and thinking about my teenage years and my 20's, I'll think of this band, Clever Girl, Loose Lips Sink Ships, Pianos become the teeth, Have Mercy, Joie De Vivre, Merchant Ships, and some others. This band will stick with me for the rest of my days though, not a doubt in my mind.
Honestly, I never considered that so many people would hate the vocals? I love the singers vocal range and I personally think it works great for this song and music genre. I don't mean do police what people can't or can like - you're perfectly entitled to your own opinion and to voice it - but this 'perfectly imperfect' way of recording a song is kind of twiabp's brand and I hope you can appreciate them if you give this amazing band a chance!
My first experience with this song: A friend in the band sent me a copy before the album was released. I'd found the band on a sketchy download site and thought the band name was funny, so I downloaded Formlessness. I was floored, and became an instant mega-fan. Getting to make a friend in the band, and getting to hear the album early, and to hear how this song (and the whole album) completely blew away all their previous material...it was awe-inspiring... I'd been dumped recently, my parents were splitting, and I had barely graduated high school with no direction or aspirations, and their music was a huge source of comfort and inspiration. I'd had so many talented musician friends go forgotten or unheard, and this song and album legitimized what I knew this band could be: an essential in the genre with a distinct voice and sound. First time I heard this song I cried hard, and sometimes, I still do. This is one of my all time favorite songs and I dread the day I die and can't be on this planet anymore with art as good as this.
I broke down to this song after a emotionally abusive relationship, a year or two later I see her again walking down the street after 2 years without seeing her and I instantly broke down this song brings me into a state of wanting to live life more but at the same time fall back and breakdown so much raw emotions this song brings to the table
It's funny cause I was just thinking this morning about how I'm naturally drawn to singers with imperfect voices. I don't know why exactly but probably it sounds more sincere to me. Also maybe because my voice is horrible and yet I like singing and I can understand the desire to have something to say yet everyone thinks you should just shut up. Anyway I noticed I love Bright Eyes, Ani Difranco, Neutral Milk Hotel, Kind of Like Spitting, etc. I've never heard of The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die, but I will definitely check them out! If you have any other suggestions of similar bands, please reply in the comments. I'm open to suggestions! :)
I miss who I was and where I was 5 years ago. But that doesn't mean I want that old me back. I'm growing into a person I never thought I would be. And I think I'm finally learning what it's like to love myself.

Yeah I couldn't agree more. The presence of those post-rock esque soaring and prevalent melodies is indisputable. But their style is clearly also derivative of all the bands that have been mentioned in this slew of comments, which is really just a testament to how wonderful this band is.
If I see one more comment about how people hate the vocals, I will lose my mind. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. It's actually really simple.
now, its about one year since i move out of my country and left all my close friends behind. And, of course, i made promises like "ill see you again". I fucking miss them and i dont know if I really belong in my new home/city.
Just read about this band in AP....Had to check them out when they dropped Mineral as an influence. Amazing stuff. Reminds me of great music I listened to in High School only with way better production value and a splash more psychedelic. LOVE IT!!!
a lot of emo and post rock won't have perfect vocals nor will some strive for a "perfect clean" sounding song. It exposes the rawness of the music and tends to emphasise lyrics about hardship and maybe struggle. TWIABP have a cool style
Emo does indeed distinguish itself with hoarse vocals, but it also has to do alot with the melodic way of playing the instruments; a kind approach where you loosen the boundaries that you have in hardcore. It really is just the sound that Rites of Spring started with, that has lived on over the years.
To me they're somewhat reminiscent of.... The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die? Plz don't take my word for it as I could be wrong
Ppl critisizimg the vocals really need to re-examime their understanding of this whole genre of music in general, and probably a few meighborimg genres
No problem, man. I think about that for some bands; however, then there are bands that I would be in the same boat as you that are indescribable (i.e., Voivod).
Music genres are man-made, and not opinion-based. they are well defined and are also not based on lyrics; If you remove the vocals or lyrics from screamo its still screamo, just like if you remove the lyrics from dsbm. Emo is just a word for a sound within the genres of music. Pygmylush don't play emo, but still they make their songs in an emotional/emotive way: /watch?v=ZFJ5Hljykcc
I would say American Football, Taking Back Sunday, Cap'n Jazz, Modest Mouse, and At the Drive-In for influences?... You shouldn't forget: Fugazi, Embrace, and Rites of Spring then.
Same...but as they say in their emails, Topshelf Records is literally 2 dudes with other day jobs. I'm pretty patient, partially due to the digital download.
Giving them a listen since I'll be seeing them with Brand New in Grand Rapids next month. They remind me a bit of Built to Spill meets Sunny Day Real Estate. I'd rather listen to them opposed to this but to each their own.
I actually prefer this kind of vocal to the monotone 'hipster singing' you hear a lot these days. At least the singer's actually trying to hit some notes with some emotion behind it, even if the mark isn't always hit.

Chills just reading it imagining myself there
Wow, the instruments give me a "explosions in the sky" feel, with a emo vibe that is vibrating through out the song.
definitely 'heavily influenced' by explosions in the sky with the 'didididi doo doo' guitar bit
Exactly

I felt the same way about Sunny Day Real Estate. And they kinda started this genre almost 20 years ago. you'll like it or LOVE it. ^_^

As a fan of pixies, the vocals don't bother me.
You don't need perfect vocals that sound like every other band to play good music
Early modest mouse too

sounds like a crazy mix of American Football's technicality and Cap'n Jazz's unpolished, sort of punk sound. I love it so far
scooop a doop uu
The synth in the beginning and towards the end got me hooked! This song overall is awesome though no doubt.

Hearing some of my favorite drumming all year on this record. Fantastic album all around
This band is amazing in all aspects, so happy to have discovered them.
I just saw them; it was one of the best concerts of my life!
I'm so glad I found this. this is amazing!!!!
I dig the vocals. Good sound
Had no idea there was a new "Emo revival" I'm surprised this is really good !
Hunter Withrow Thank you I will !
This song just oozes with vibe and message similar to Night in the Woods... Love it!
Sold on the intro tbh.....
such a beautiful sound! and the vocals give it such an edgy mood i love everything about this
Cried. Thanks for making this.

Kyle Stone People have a right to leave their opinions.
Kyle Stone the vocals don't even matter when it comes to twiabp. They're instrumentals are so beyond anything else in the genre it's ridiculous lol
People who hate the vocals should take a listen to Cap'n Jazz and realise that emo vocals were always like that: "ugly", yet emotional.
Kyle Stone I don’t like the vocals....
I love your comment but hate the words in it.

that's because it's not out yet! You can pre-order it from us or from banquet records.
What an amazing song.. hella atmosphere and that ending is world class man.. 👌🤜🤟🤙
this songs instrumentals give me goosebumps
the one twinkling guitar (from when first vocals come in) is sick
this probably should have been the true first song on this album. blank is cool and all, but this is amazing
Blank is more or less an intro to this song; I generally consider the two of them as just one song.
they sorta play them that way aswell
Fuck. Can’t believe this record is 10yrs old. I feel like a dinosaur. A kick ass dinosaur with impeccable music taste though.
