    I like the tennis ball tip, so I have one to share. When I go exploring I turn my rig around facing out the way I came for a number of reasons, less chance getting stuck in weather like that, and if you need to leave in a hurry (like getting snake bitten) or injured (where it might be difficult to use a limb) it increase your odds off getting out of the area alive.

    As always, a decently produced video, packed with interest and good information. For my enjoyment, it doesn't have to be all about some idiot, clambering down the slopes of a bottomless stope or dangling from a rope down a 500ft deep abyss without the proper gear and on their own...! I follow several mine exploration videos each week and yours tops them all, ...keep up the great work and the good quality and informative content...! ..Stay safe and stay well.. - Norman - "Sunny Western Australia"

This has been something I’ve wanted to do for many years and it gives me such happiness to finally bring this genre of exploring before an audience. My goal has alway been to create an experience for the viewer that is well rounded, fun and informative without focusing solely on the dangerous aspects of mine exploring. Again, thank you so much!

    Glad you climbed the ladder despite the danger and all the mouse/rat pee (which I believe are the dark stains on prominent points and ledges - sometimes mistaken for bat guano). I also noticed the cabin had tongue and groove boards on the collapsed ceiling - which was probably the floor of a loft area. I imagine a loft could be warmer for sleeping in the winter. Very interesting site that is fun to imagine life in those times!

    Crude "builds", but those "ol boys put together just what was needed. Infact the one cabin had the contours of a modern, ranch house from the 60's! You just had to do a ladder and then kept your balance leaning on crudely stooped beams!! But they & the ladder all held, thats all that matters. Enjoyed the "adventure once again. I hadn't heard of the sheet metal being used to stop rock from coming out into the tunnel but I suppose that's possible. Sheet metal was more often placed on the floor up against the face and the lifting charge would toss the rock and ore out onto the metal where it was much, much easier to muck it up off a smooth surface rather than the rough floor of the mine. That thing on hanging from the front of the cabin at the beginning of your video appears to be one of the mounts for the overhead wire for an electrified mine railroad. I have no idea what they might have been using it for. That mill didn't appear to have a crusher which means they could have easily lost twenty percent of the gold that is now in the tailings pile. That makes the tailings very worthwhile to rework which is happening in a lot of early mines. It wasn't until cyanide leaching came into vogue that almost all the gold was extracted from the tailings. I understand the profitability of that but I think it destroys part of the history of the sites. Nice video, thanks for sharing.

    • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  5 лет назад +1

      Dave Beckley
      “Gly”: Great comment! I learned later that the thing hanging next to the cabin door was a old mop mechanism. Your right, sheets of smooth sheet metal were laid down to make it easier to remove rock and ore. Because of the size of the dents in thicker sheet metal I’ve found also makes me believe they were preventing fly rock from traveling down the adit during a blast. Less to clean up I suppose.

    • @davebeckley2584
      @davebeckley2584 5 лет назад

      @@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces You're right, now that you mention it that does look like part of a mop but it did resemble the hanger used in large mines. Frank Schlichting of Exploring Abandoned Mines comes across them in some of the huge mines he explores in British Columbia. Not the first time I've been wrong.

      “Gly”: So far I have found bats, mice, rats, turtles, snakes and a ring tailed miners cat. I’m still hoping to find a den of rattlesnakes one of these days and get them on camera. I’ve only ever seen one mountain lion but he wasn’t near the mine I was exploring. I saw him as I was driving there.

    Serious about the squirrel gravy? What does squirrel taste like? And dont say squirrel or chicken..LOL Is it an oily gamey tasting meat?

      "Gly": Serious? Absolutely! You dice up the meat into small pieces then salt and pepper them. Then you mix up a batch of biscuit gravy and add it in. It's important to cook it on low heat otherwise the meat gets tough. If you do it right the meat tastes just like venison and it's tender. My dad would put the meat through a tenderizer press before dicing it up. Trust me, its absolutely delicious! Nope! not oily or gamey tasting at all. Poor mans venison.

    On your intro you said you didn't have your camera. So did you remake the part where you're running away from the mountain lion just so you could have a dramatic intro,. so you could tell your story of the mountain lion? lolol

      “Gly”: Yes, I was having some fun with that in this video. I made the intro after I discovered the mountain lion scat in the cabin. Last year when I made this video this channel was much different than what it is now.

    Gly as for the cat droppings you can tell wat state ur in with them. If they have a chewed up stick and tennis ball remains, ur in nevada. If they have hair, teeth an eyes and smell like pepper spray, ur in California. Lol

      “Gly”: Lol! Good point! I think the pepper spray version would probably taste better. The tennis ball version would be kind of chewy and full of splinters.
