Thanks! One thing about it is that it's really both. If you look at the official government description of PHI, the same paragraph refers to PHI as both. www.hhs.gov/answers/hipaa/what-is-phi/index.html Yes, it stands for Protected Health Information, but then they also have this paragraph: The HIPAA Privacy Rule provides federal protections for personal health information held by covered entities and gives patients an array of rights with respect to that information. At the same time, the Privacy Rule is balanced so that it permits the disclosure of personal health information needed for patient care and other important purposes.
So how does HIPPA apply to the Covid19 vaccine, can a college demand access to your medical records or how about the Karen store manager asking for my papers?
Anyone can ask you if you are vaccinated and for proof. You have the right to refuse, but then you'll still need to comply with what they ask of you if you do refuse. You may need to take your business elsewhere. If they were to break into a hospital and steal the data, that's where there would be a problem, but they are not in violation of HIPAA by simply asking.
Thanks very good information Mrs Turner
great video, minor correction PHI is *protected* health information, not personal health information as mentioned at 2:06
