The ruffle finish on the shorts set is called a lettuce edge hem. It's done on lighter weight knits by stretching the fabric while serging the edge. When you let go of the fabric it ruffles and curls. Back in the 1970s my grandmother taught me to do this using a zigzag stitch on her Singer Touch & Sew machine. It worked beautifully on that trendy double knit polyester, hahaha. It works really well on poly/cotton knits and stretch panne velour, too. I've seen the finish on sweaters occasionally and on bias cut ruffles. There are tutorials for the lettuce edge here on RUclips.
The ruffles hem is called a lettuce hem and its basically done by stretching a knit edge and sewind the edge with a satin/short zigzag stitch! There are lots of good tutorials on youtube
Good to see an answer because my guess was just to hold the knit fabric extremely taunt and then making a really tight stich so it would cause it to gather...
Commercially, you use a baby lock stitch which is sort of like a tiny 3 thread overlock but you can achieve a similar look on a domestic with a teeny zigzag ❤
I agree about the thank you notes being destined for the trash, even though they are really cute! I’ve had a couple companies write them on the invoice/receipt that’s in the package, actually. To me that makes a lot of sense because it’s something that’s unavoidable in every package, so might as well add a little note on it too! Reduces the amount of paper being tossed out.
I actually love thank you notes!!!! But that’s because I journal and have one specifically for keepsakes, I’ll tape things in like movie tickets, concert tickets, family pictures. As a small business owner in the UK you give me hope that there are people that appreciate us and will pay our prices. It's a real struggle being told you are too expensive even though you don't actually make that much per item 😅
@@dzdztar4612 we cover our expenses and our time... If you are happy with modern slavery go right ahead 🤣. But most of us have skills that have taken years to get to a professional standard. Any machinery we use is expensive and that needs covering too. We don't charge things just for the hell of it. Most people are just used to crappy tat now that the value of things have decreased. If I charged £1.50 for my baby leggings I'd be a slave by my own making. They cost £6 in time alone. (This doesn't include drop shipping businesses, just those that actually make something)
The problem most of the time is not people's stinginess (or preferring fast fashion) but the fact that we ourselves are not paid enough to support small businesses. I live in UK and I cannot afford to pay lets say £150 for a handmade blouse, that is to say I don't think it's overpriced I simply cannot afford it. That's why I don't buy stuff unless I thrift it, including thrifting the fabric from charity shops, e.g. curtains. I would love to be able to make the kind of money that allows me to support local makers but the reality for the majority of people is that it's impossible.
@@sonian7234 my stuff are all on par with alot of shops on the high street. My main customer base is people on lower income. I like the idea of the personal note imprinted on the box lid on the bottom or something, so its not an extra peice of paper that will get thrown out, but still has that sweet surprise touch to it
Dont be fooled by some small businesses, there are many that are just dropshippers, which again you do you but most exploit their prices. So i personally dont count those a small business, for me its about craftmanship and handmade products.
And what real small businesses hard to distinguish, pretend ones will use “handmade” as a buzzword to make it seem like it’s a small business, when in reality, all clothes/bags/shoes are handmade. They have to be. Machines can cut and sew, but they can’t do the assembly, that is by hand. In a lot of cases is those people aren’t getting paid fair wages, unfortunately. So we also have to look at how companies treat employees and where they source their work.
@@maribreeze7560 I agree, but companies who purchase from poorer countries cannot be defined as small businesses. If anyone says their products are made in another country full on that is a dead giveaway of unethical work, cause again they pay for the company the people work for and not individually the workers. Which trust me i have worked at at a company and we werent paid fair for the prices they were selling the products we hand made.
I actually learnt a fun nail application hack from my friend. I'm allergic to alcohol wipes but dipping them in diluted white vinegar works. I've used it for pressons and nail wraps; it works really well.
Please keep the blue cowboy hat and outfit for yourself. It looks so cute on you and for the days when you are feeling down, you can put it on, dance around and feel happy!! 😊 The hand-made pieces from the mom and daughter shop were probably my favorite..... really I liked everything. The dress at the end looks beautiful on you!! ❤❤❤ Great video!!
The small business cards, if I've never ordered from the brand or haven't in a while, it makes me feel really appreciated. It makes me happy. Now if I order frequently, and I get one every time, it stops feeling personal (unless it's a very personalized message). I think they're a very nice touch, even if destined for the trash.
When they make larger sizes, it requires more fabric and work so they often will charge more. I mean I get economically why they're limited especially being without a large staff of people working for them. I'm saying this as a curvier girl, so no shame at all. I'm just relaying a possible factor for them. Maybe if the demand is there, they will expand their size selections
They would also need to make a new body block for the pattern, to make the clothes fit right. A lot of companies just scale up the regular pattern, resulting in clothes that dont fit right. Making plus size clothes basically requires a new pattern that also needs to be scaled up, making it quite a large investment.
@@msx4640@msx4640 yup there are a lot more works and investment that go into making inclusive sizes than meet the eyes, more than people know of...I'm saying this as someone who works in manufactoring. I understand why many brands don't do this and super impress with brands who does, go into understanding why they charge more on their products.
I’m totally okay with small businesses charging more for true plus size because their margins are relatively small. But I hate when large corporations charge more when their margins are already huge.
Thanks for this comment. Also, it would add a larger number of orders than one woman could probably handle on her own. Then, you get into having to hire folks, employment law, taxes, etc...scaling up isn't a joke!
@@msx4640 You know it's a little more complex than that because there are a lot of different types of plus size bodies. I used to buy a lot of juniors plus and pinup clothing because the shape of most plus size clothes was really unfortunate on me. Kind of do the same thing, as I will usually paste the business cards and at least part of the flyers in my journal! They make great memories but I get why people throw them out. 😬
If it's a style of art that matches the theme of a room, I will put it on display in there. If not, the card goes into a little box. Oh, and sometimes they're the perfect bookmarks!
I bought a pair of nails from that Instagram page for my prom and I can say I did get compliments and they were very strong. Although they did come off the next morning after taking a shower, which could’ve been my fault due to incorrect application ?? (Although I followed the directions) or the fact that I think my nails have an issue where our nail polish and glue, etc. don’t like to stay on my nails 😢. Also just a hack for anybody that uses the glue tabs after you put the tabs on and take the sticker off. You can hit your nails with a hairdryer on a low heat setting and then put the nail on after doing that so that they stick better and for longer !
A little tip for making things stick onto your nails: make sure to dehydrate them from any natural oils, 100% acetone works best, or a nail dehydrator. Make sure to prep your nails, buffing them with a low grit file, making sure there's no shiny part on your nails, (but do not overfile!!) This helps with giving the nails something to stick to. Something that also helps me is pushing back my cuticles, and making sure there's no ‘skin residue’ on my nail plate, which can cause lifting! If your using glue, try and apply the nail at a 45* angle starting from just above the base of your cuticle, then push it back towards your cuticle once its laid flat. This helps avoid large sir bubbles, which causes lifting. These prep tips are for any nail application in general, so it will work for glue or Tabs! Great tip on the hair dryer, ill be sure to try that! ❤
The reason press on nails don't stick for long is due to moisture in your nails before applying file the surface area of your nail then swipe some nail polish remover on the surface of your nail now your nail will last longer

I’m not trying to justify anything and my feelings aren’t hurt I’m simply stating that using the word choices you did make it sound like you think the commenter is donating money to the Russian government or something… I honestly hate war and violence there’s always a better way to resolve things, I also understand how difficult and nuanced the situation is as a business likely pays taxes that goes to a government that’s attacking so many people, but people also need to make money and buying the dress isn’t directly supporting Rusia but of course it in some ways might give money to people who give money to Rusia but at the same time it’s not the dressmakers fault if their government decided to do something horrific… but we also don’t know the dressmakers maybe it’s some dropshipper and all the funds are going into the pocket of someone supporting these awful things with no hesitation it’s just a tricky situation is all
@@rinipork I don't feel like your information is any useful in this context. I explained the hassle and why it isn't a scam. Your comment does not give any additional information on the matter of why this isn't a scam, it is specifically to blame people who aren't directly involved in making decisions about the war. Maybe the world should hate on you, because the government of America killed people for no good reason in Vietnam? Or if you are from any other country in the world the chance is, that somewhere in history, that government was involved in something nasty. The issue with inclusive sizing for small businesses is that people will get mad if different sizes are differently priced, but a 3x would take significantly more time and materials to create. You can't win as a small business
I've seen it mentioned that the last dress was from a Russian seller, but I wanted to add that I believe that Russian sellers when dealing with international buyers are unable to do business in the usual way due to the invasion of Ukraine. In the United States at least there are sanctions in place to prevent people from purchasing items from Russia, which I noticed when trying to purchase items from a Russian artists who only accepted orders from an alternative payment (I believe these transactions aren't possible through Paypal). I imagine it may be the same case that Canada has sanctions in place as well. I imagine that purchasing from Russia indirectly funds the invasion in a way. I may be wrong but this was the impression I've gotten online when looking into it briefly.

The first thing I thought of was a rolled hem on an overlocker, would that do the same?
Yes, I think you’d just need to tighten up the tension to get the rolled hem to go wavy.
@@caldowning Came here to say this - I spent many years finishing mesh tops on a 3 thread overlocker!
I’ll even use candy wrappers, old gift wrap etc etc!!

As a small business owner in the UK you give me hope that there are people that appreciate us and will pay our prices. It's a real struggle being told you are too expensive even though you don't actually make that much per item 😅
Oh please some of you really price things ridiculously ... Yeah i understand the struggle but some of you just go way overboard

I'm an hourglass, but it can't have been great for apple shaped people either, it seems like 90% of commercial plus size clothes are made for pear shaped bodies.

The first one’s color was absolutely perfect on you, it makes your skin glow!
I was curious how long they lasted. Were you worried about them coming off during the day? Were you using the tabs or glue?
A little tip for making things stick onto your nails:
make sure to dehydrate them from any natural oils, 100% acetone works best, or a nail dehydrator.
Prettige!
@@beths609 I had done this! I used the prep pads and buffer and whatever else they supplied in the nail package :(

@@annalea3026 it’s not blamey, i’m just giving a full context that people avoid giving for some reason :) it’s not like they went under the sanctions bc no one likes russia, it’s cuz they have unalived & are unaliving A LOT of people, which is kinda huge. this is what i live in for more than 2 years, and i’m so sorry if smbds feelings were hurt by my comment, my feelings get hurt on a regular basis cuz people around keep being kill€d and other people just going blind on this situation.
I am not from Russia, I've never been there, nor my parents, but looking at humanity as a whole, this is a pretty hateful and unjustified remark, especially coming from an English speaking person, since England enslaved and colonized so many countries back in the days (so most likely you have some ancestry in there)... People who are trying to survive and feed their families do not decide to start a war. Don't start a hate speech.

That Easy Tiger outfit was daylight robbery!!! Cute but in no way worth that price!
Looks like something you'd find on Fashion Nova.
I love it that Mia is so candid in her videos. With the wacky screenshots and all, love love love ❤️❤❤ 😍
😊 thank you hahahahah
@MiaMaples you're most welcome 🥰
THE CRAFTSMANSHIP OF HEART BAGS AND PAJAMAS MY GOD… AMAZING
One of my favourite things about mia is that even if shes sponsored by a company she still is transparent. So many youtubers fake reviews and you can tell mia is being genuine all the time
Instead Mia is extremely naive and don’t fact check things before ordering. That gets old very quick..
@NaeniaNightingale have you not seen any of her videos? She does so much research on the products she reviews to check things like ethics, quality, fabrics and other stuff. Are you sure you know the meaning of the word naive?
Hi Mia I love when you do videos like these and review small business because I been thinking where to buy new things and now you gave me an idea.Thank u so much for that😁💕
My daughter recently showed me this dress and said it was her dream wedding dress.. 1000$ is way out of my price range at this time. It truly is beautiful though ❤️ Thank you for showing us that it really is just as beautiful as it is in pictures!
@@rachapach6192 that business is from russia. do not sponsor that terrorist country that kills ukrainian civilians every day!
it is from russian omg even if it is free it is so bad
I love the little notes, even if they end up in trash. I bought from a small company and didn't get any notes or anything beside the order, and I was kind of disappointed. It is a small gesture to show how grateful they are to do business and a good way for the customer to get to know the brand more. It helps the brand tell a story, especial small business, who isn't known by many, you want to know what the brand stands for.
Miaaa, love your content so much, but please don’t support businesses from russia and terr@rist states!! the last dress was from business in moscow, it said it on their page, and it’s not very nice to pay almost 3000$ to people that will pay bills to russian government, ty sm, hope you will see this comment! 😭
I highly doubt Putin is being funded by wedding dress creators.
@@kenised yeah he actually is, tell it to Chanel brand who is remembered for working with Nazi
@@kenised i mean, yes they quite literally are if they pay taxes
I love when 2 of my fav things come together but I would never have guessed Mia and drag ❤
That body suit and cowgirl hat are giving Chappel Roan vibes. Also try flipping that t-shirt with the rhinestones inside out before you wash it, that’s helped me before with shirts I don’t want to fade as quickly/have stuff fall off of it.
It’s cause she’s worn it for opening for Olivia
The ruffled edges are called a "lettuce hem." It's typically done by playing with the feed/tension on your serger while doing a rolled hem.
12:23 it's giving "Baby I Am A Rockstar"✨
The ruffled edges are called popcorn hems/ edges! You take a zigzag stitch and putting half of the fabric on one side of the needle, you stretch the fabric as you sew!😊
