Me and some friends have played Heavy Gear Blitz on and off since the first edition. Always given it a go when there has been a new rules revision, but then the interest has faded away due to the quality of the rules beeing quite so so. But, after given these new rules a read through, I have to say that this version is the best one by far. Looks very promising! I think that HG is in a good spot now to help the game and company to grow.
Thanks for the overview, dude. Been looking to get into Heavy Gear for a long time and found a place that sells the models in the UK, this has been helpful to learn the system.
I like the tech, the way the game nicely integrates EW and how it handles actions. The dice pool mechanic of best dice is your result and extras that beat a threshold add +1 each is pretty slick, I really like that idea. Does anyone know of any novels or fiction exploring the universe? I did search around a bit but what few books I can see referenced are not on Amazon or other booksellers I tried. Can order rulebooks easy enough but no novels. Anybody know of a few?
So far as I know, the only sources of fiction are all internal; rulebooks and sourcebooks for the RPG, various edition faction books for prior Blitz editions. Well, and the two Activision games. The first game was basically a reskin of MechWarrior 2 (there are worse things to be a reskin of) so don't expect any of the gameplay to be lore accurate, but it had a good compelling story from what I remember. 2 was custom-built to be a bit more lore accurate in gameplay, and it's generally a good game. I wasn't as fond of the story. ... And then there's the game you can buy on Steam. Which seems to be locked in early access hell. As a multiplayer-only game, it's effectively doornail-dead at this point.
7:47 you skipped the part where you still compare the MOS+Weapon Damage (DMG) vs ARmor to see if you go over the armor to deal damage, the 4+ roll only happens if at that point where the MoS+DMG = AR. And note that at the MoS of 0 step if the enemy has the Agile trait the attack automatically fails. You really should specify "+1 dice" not just "+1" because something like using an advanced trait weapon in optimal range or a gun having the Precise weapon trait will add a +1 to all the dice you roll for an attack. I say that because there are lots of weapons that have either or both and it would get confusing if you don't specify which you're adding when you're declaring modifiers for an attack even if added dice are the more common modifier. And this didn't cover the -TN (-1 target number) that you get for targeting an enemy from an elevated position (that is, the base of the firing model being entirely above the targeted model's silhouette in height) which gives a -1 to your target number (that 4+ GU skill becomes a 3+ GU skill and becomes better). But the traits and the -TN stuff are more advanced rules so that's fine that they're not here.
If you want make a tutorial you should cover the following things: 1. Game overview. 2. Basic Mechanics(dice, movement, etc) 2. Turn structure. 3. Attacking and defending. 4. Shenanigans(ECM, indirect fire, etc) 5. Scoring and victory conditions. You can split these up in different videos for convenience.
To me, Blitz is _more_ complicated than the previous "less streamlined" Heavy Gear Tactical rules. Too many things are completely arbitrary. With DnD in coming more into the mainstream I really think we should all migrate back to the RPG roots and embrace the strengths of the system.
Heavy Gear seems to lack material aimed at beginners. Cheers for putting out some quick to digest content. :)
Ty for putting this up I needed a refresher on the rules

Great demo. Keep up making these
Thanks for the tutorial man, picked up the core book and this helped clear up some confusion

Best Heavy Gear introductory video! Keep up the good work 😉👍🏼
shorter videos, like this, are easier to digest
Thanks for this, trying to get into the game at the moment along with getting some of my infinity group into it too.

Is this Blitz 3.1?
Digging the buildings, where did you get them?
Guess from where :)
