A few months after my mum had me, she was walking around the neighbourhood with me in my stroller and one of the old lady neighbours came up to chat. She was perfectly nice and congratulated my mum etc. and _right before she left_ she said “ja, you know, I think it’s _wonderful_ that mothers these days don’t feel they are required to lose the baby weight so fast. In my day, I was back to my normal weight within weeks and that was normal. It is good to see you are taking your time. Ja, you are enjoying all those frikadellen!”

My dad and much older brother have had early hip replacements. They told me it was due to playing sport. I had an xray and was told I have hip dysplaysia, basically not fully developed hip sockets. I think it's in about 5% of people, but doesn't cause problems for many.
Anyway so my brother just got the other hip done, and was told only after the surgery that yes it is displaysia 🤦‍♀️
I swear if you have anything medically wrong they only tell you at the point you need surgery, not decades before, even though it's delectable and interventions are available.

This video brought up some great memories!!!
When I was young I worked as a housekeeper for 2 ladies in the same Condo complex.
1 German lady, tall, extremely thin, rigid and homely. Always in muted colors, and always in a skirt. Her clothing matched the fabric and decor of her house. Old-world European. Everything in place. No clutter and no television. Honestly, nothing to do but dust.
Occasionally would squeeze out a smile. Divorced.
1 Jewish lady, short, little plump, kinda disheveled hair, clothes, and entire household in a hot mess. Fond of blues and white. A few forced smiles with a fixed look of confusion or worry. Married. Husband sat in the chair reading the newspaper the entire time, ignoring her rants.
I'll never forget either of them. 😊
The German lady would slip me a little extra or tell me to leave early with same pay.
As I worked, I still remember her constant rambling to herself, and the clomping sound of her shoes. I like listening to her speak in German when she talked on the phone. The over all vibe was always dark and sullen.
The Jewish lady would look up at the clock before I left out the door and would actually take money off me. 😅
This is not a story tale, this is the truth. I remember her taking back, LITERALLY taking back, from the palm of my hand, some change. I left at 11:30 AM and I was done 5 min early. 😅 Over all vibe was light with a splash of chaos.
Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum!!!

That means that your mother was born in 1930 and was 15 years old when WWII ended. She was probably a member of the BDM. I am sure that she had some interesting and terrifying stories to tell.

@@spaceman081447 Don't know what BDM means. However, she was in the Hitler youth as a child. Although, she came to England in the late 1940s and married two service men (Navy and Royal Engineers). It's a long story. I'm her youngest daughter, my Mum was 40 when I was born.

BDM is the German initials for the League of German Girls, the female counterpart to the Hitler Youth.
      (BDM = Bund Deutscher Madchen)

@@spaceman081447 I did not know. Thank you. My Mum use to say: German girls don't cry.
Mum made a home in Britain and we were brought up 'British'. Although, after my Dad passed away in 2006, she slowly developed dementia and that was a time when she started watching, reading WW2 stuff. I think the dementia was taken her back to her youth. It is awful to know that your Mum was subjected to Hitler's rule, that she was part of that horrid time. My Mum got on with everyone and was caring. I think she brought herself to Britain not the Germany she was taught.
