- The intensive care unit at Toronto's Humber River Hospital is dealing with two types of patients: those unvaccinated against COVID-19, and the immunocompromised - but staff are also feeling the strain. During the first two years of the pandemic, around 500 workers there caught COVID-19, though, with Omicron, they've seen 700 infections in January alone.
There are more than 4,000 COVID-19 patients in Ontario hospitals right now, with more than 570 in intensive care. The province says ICU admissions are expected to peak in mid-February. Jeff Semple speaks with overwhelmed health-care workers and some of their patients, including those who are not infected with the coronavirus.

If you would focus on nutrition and make healthy food more affordable so people can get off the processed crap, as well as make cost of living more reasonable so people would not have to wear themselves down working excessive hours, then people would have a more robust immune system and fewer people would get sick from covid.

My family and I got covid at the start of this pandemic. We got an antibody test recently and it showing up as really strong(we are not vaccinated) . Out of all the people I know who have been vaccinated a number of them have had bad to mild side effects, almost all of them have got covid and more than half had to be hospitalized

Ontario has purposely shrunk its hospital system. In 1990, there were 33,403 acute-care hospital beds, according to the OHA; today there are 18,571. During that same period, the province's population jumped 36 per cent to 14 million.
