Mother of pearl dissolves naked btw. Aluminum off-gasses and pits unsealed. Teeth will plate over w/o conductive paint eventually, sorta that "creep-over" from the rest of the skull. Not completely, it is smooth, it didn't bubble. Very uneven. I'd recommend a dremel and a diamond grit burr for taking points or unwanted parts down. Consider simmering organics in wax first. Skulls and such are better in the bath not soaking it up and splitting early plate.
Great video! I am a beginner and I have found no matter which sealant I use (ProtectaClear, Polyurethane Lacquer, ModPodge) tends to dull my rainbow quartz or peacock ore. Since I don’t use the clear nail polish as a sealant, I’m afraid to use acetone remover on the natural stones. How could I remove the dull and shiny look that changes the original appearance of my stone?
Thanks Jason ! I bought almost everything to start electroforming . I'm almost there ,can't wait to start . Should make my first tests in two weeks ... Love your vids ,I learn a lot from you .
Some glass doesn't like it either. I've pitted magnifying glass severely. Halloween store latex will not have ammonia, it will be potassium hydroxide instead.
Was wondering if you have had experience sealing gem silica? I'm hoping I can use clear nail polish but am terrified the acetone will hurt my precious cabochon
I am so excited to get started, got my chemical shopping list and have been collecting organics to start with. Your videos are awesome, you give step by step details, you have a nice voice that is easy to listen to. Since this vid is about protecting stones, I wanted to ask your advice on where a newbie should purchase stones. I have a local bead store that carries lots of different gems, but she is very pricey on her items. Do you have any e-stores that you would recommend? Thanks again for the great videos!
Jason - of course "mother earth" (me) found a 4th catagory. Not sure if glass needs protecting but I am working on a pendant with a ridiculously expensive piece of glass. Any hints???
Thanks for this! I've struggled with rough apatite coming out of the bath with a milky or murky surface even after coating a few times with clear nail polish beforehand so I'm going to try this.
Just want to put it out there, I've been using just a coat of polyurethane lacquer and it works great! Thanks for all your videos you have inspired me greatly..!
I was so waiting for that video ✌ no one ever made one like this. BUT would have been super nice if you would have shown it too. Especially with liquid latex I have no idea how it works. ✌

Mahalo for all that wisdom. So greatly appreciated. You have a wonderful soul for taking the time to do this. Mahalo
Is there any stone or material that doesn't require clear coat protection? Glass maybe? Thanks!

Will this method work for protecting shells?
Wig brush or Dog brush ! Cool or cut the heads of wire brushes and glue together would that work
Just want to put it out there, I've been using just a coat of polyurethane lacquer and it works great! Thanks for all your videos you have inspired me greatly..!
To fasten the process and to have it less messy, does someone use a lacquer spray which you can remove with acetone later? If so which one?
Thank you for sharing 🤟🏻❤️💋
Would've liked to have seen some unprotected stones for comparison to see what the acid would do to unprotected stones....😊
What about using Latex? I've seen this method but do not know which latex to use or even how to coat them?
Ty can someone make a 925 Sterling video?! For turquoise or diff stones?!
Is the metal you used copper? If so, how did you get it to have that dirty, oxidized look?
Jessica Belock a lot of people use liver of sulfur gel!
What's best for black tourmaline?
Acetone will harm opals and pearls, etc...and TUMBLING them? No way! Have you tried hot wax?
starboard i would worry about corals also. I have had to recondition an expensive ring exposed to Clorox.
I agree and a note should be added above correcting that.
