Kind of a weird fun fact about that '99 Jags team, but they only beat one team with a winning record that season (Miami in the Divisional Round). Still remember that season very fondly though. It's a shame they couldn't face the Rams in the Super Bowl, because that would have been a fantastic matchup.
So this team overachieved and was a lot better than they actually were in other words? It marked the start of the sunset of the Tom Coughlin era in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars 41-3 molly whopping over my 49ers in week 1 of the '99 campaign I didn't know at the time but it kind sense has marked the sense of The Changing Of The Guard for a proud franchise that had been one of the best teams in the NFL for almost two decades with five Super Bowl titles and was a team we're going in a state of transition. Two weeks after the Jaguars thumping over the Niners Steve Young was knocked out with another concussion against the Cardinals and would never play again and would retire after the season. As for the season, the Niners were 3-1 after four weeks before losing 11 of its final 12 games to finish 4-12 their first losing season since 1982. I give a lot of credit to the Jaguars for that W against my 49ers. That was a statement game for a team young team loaded with talent where the 49er veterans including both Steve Young and Jerry Rice were at the end of their time plus they were against the salary cap as well.
These Jags teams were fun to watch. They just couldn't beat the Titans this season. Lost to them twice in the regular season then again in the AFC Championship game.
Old Tom left went to the NY Giants and won the Big One not once but twice. Then returned to Jacksonville to help the team out. That county on Duval deserves a decent year of football. They have a ton of young talent, they just have to find the correct veterans to bring it all together.
I wouldn’t say he helped out the second time. He did the same thing he did the first time… which is essentially run the team in the hole in one way or another. Tom ran our premiere players out because of his stubbornness

The Jags had one of the best starts for an expansion franchise. They made the playoffs 4 straight seasons from 96-99, and got to the AFC Championship game twice. Since, they've made the playoffs just 3 times in the last 21 seasons. What happened?
Poor drafting. We haven’t had a real QB since Brunell. That’s why having Trevor Lawrence is sooooo huge for the Jags fans. Not only terrible luck drafting QBs, but impact players in general, especially in the first round. Go look at the Jags draft picks from 01-‘20. You’ll be fucking impressed at how incompetent an organization can be during several front office and coaching changes back to back to back.

That jaguar on the sleeve was dope as hell. They need to go back to these uniforms.
