Thank you for this. We've had major issues with dust collection when cutting our plywood. The dust port just isn't big enough and gets clogged up.

Often, it also helps to change your cutter style. I typically use compression spirals, but sometimes a 1 or 2 straight flute cutter works better when you have ply with a crappy core. Of course, the other option is to buy better plywood! But in any case, more dust extraction helps clear the table

Any reason you could not use a clear piece of acrylic instead of the plywood for the cover of the X beam? Also, is there a reason that we cannot convert the existing 3" extractions vacuum exit and convert to 4" so that we don't have to create a system on the other side of the system?

No, use acrylic if you have it... my point was just that it's very simple to control the debris depending on how YOU want to set up your machine. With the 4" dust collector, there is no need for the small plywood covers I showed. For most applications, there is no need for them either, but, depending on what you are cutting, and how good your extraction is, you MAY need to do something like this so you don't have to babysit the machine. I also sometimes connect a hose on the EXHAUST side of a ShopVac to blow on the spindle to help cool the bit and dispurse swarf. That's the beauty of the SmartBench - it's so easy to tweak based on what YOU need for your production mix. I sell the SmartBench in the USA and other areas and train customers. I have different needs than my customers, because I need to be able to show folks that fly in for a demo/training day setting up the machine from scratch, we design their type of products/parts, send GCode to the machine etc... I show a wide variety of options that are not applicable to everyone, but VERY applicable to some, based on how they plan to use the SmartBench. It's because of this, that I decided to be able to show using the factory dust shoe and built-in extraction hose, then, pause a cutting job, and attach the 4" hose, and continue the job --- just shows options. So, adding it to the console side made sense to me. If I was to set this up in my shop to use all the time, I'd use one or the other -- or both depending on the material! If I was cutting full sheets quite often, I'd build a low profile torsion box to quickly index full sheets etc. I have customers that have done this and then created a vacuum table. It's such a versatile machine. Come see us at the IWF show later this month - Booth A10013!

Yeti should just provide this as optional. When dust accumulates on the workpiece it actually affects the accuracy, as the wheels will roll over it lifting the x beam.

In the 3 years since this video was posted, there have been many variations on this, and Yeti Tool has released their own connection to a 4" system. Many customers never see a need for this --- it all depends on what types of products you are cutting, whether you prefer to be portable, or will be leaving the Yeti in your shop all the time, etc. Many customers of mine do not use the upper beam as a compression roller on top of their material, and keep it raised above the materials because the material could be easily marred by the pressure of the wheels. I have customers that have rigged up a torsion box bed, and others that took THAT idea and extended it by adding a vacuum system to it. That's the beauty of the SmartBench -- it's so easy to tweak the setup to fit the way YOU want to use it in YOUR shop. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions.

@@yetismartbenchus3590 Thanks for the reply! 🙏 I just saw the news yesterday that Yeti Tool developed the 4'' extration system "BigFoot". I can't wait to get one, my DYI skills are not perfect and I am afraid of collateral damage if I do something wrong by attaching something of my own make to the machine.
And of course, thanks for the suggestions, especially the no-wheel solution which is a great idea for my application!

Good old American ingenuity. I’ll be stealing your idea when my Yeti comes in a week or so.

Thanks for this, got my smart bench a couple weeks ago and loving it. Watched a few of your videos so far and appreciate your concise explanation on practical applications
